A deafness awareness tutor in the UK is calling on the hotel industry to step up its game in terms of accommodating deaf and signing travelers. Consultant Ruthy Fletcher claims that hotels are unprepared in this manner and has set out to shed some light on how hotels can better accommodate those who are hearing impaired.
The honorable endeavor stems from Fletchers own experience as a deaf traveler.
“I was once staying in a hotel and unbeknown to me the fire alarm went off,” she said. “I decided to pop out and was surprised to see the fire brigade, guests and staff outside. Luckily it was a false alarm.”
