Brides.com Picks the Cheapest and Chicest Honeymoon Hotels

June 17, 2009 at 5:31 PM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

Our pals over at Brides.com have a knack for picking out the loveliest and the smartest hotels for your wedding-related celebrations — from the ceremony to the reception to the afterparty — and this year, with the economy in mind, they've hand-selected a few destinations that get you the most bang (hehehe) for your buck on your honeymoon with the help of travel gurus Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Some highlights from the Top 10 Cheap-Chic Honeymoons List they put together:

· Jetting to the Rodwell House in South Africa can be worth it — go all the way there and be rewarded with room rates as low as $168.

· Or just keep it simple and stay in the US: the Townhouse Hotel in Miami runs in the $115–$500 range, including continental breakfast. It's cute, boutique-y, and includes the option of doin' your bronzing time on the rooftop or walking the few steps down to the beach. decked rooftop or walk the 50 yards to the beach

· Thinkin' Europe for the honeymoon? If you "crave quiet intimacy in the middle of it yet away from it all at the same time," the Murmuri in Barcelona (shown) may be a good spot for you and your new spouse, with rates starting around $155 (not including breakfast).

Check out the full list here — or, you know, you could always just register with a hotel chain to have your wedding guests pay for a not-so-cheap honeymoon.

This week, we're kicking off a summer of bringing you all the new need-to-know info about hotel weddings — tips, news and info about what goes down at hotels during the summertime vow season — whether you're attending one or saying your nuptials. Got some hotel wedding tips for us? Send 'em over.

You know, we are all for splurging on weddings — er, so long as we don't have to handle big-spendin' Bridezillas and, obvs, so long as we're not the ones bankrolling the nuptials.

It's supposed to be the most important day of a young lady's life! The day she dreams of forever and ever and remembers forever and always after that! So really, money should be no object (note: we are sort of kidding). But here's another reason to drop the big bucks for an all-out wedding celebration: at some chains, the more you spend on your wedding, the more free stuff you get afterward.

When we worked at a swanky ski resort, we used to have chitty chats with the concierge over coffee to get the hot scoop on all the magical wedding proposals she'd helped to plan over the years. Proposing at romantic hotels — rose petals, sunset views, champagne and chocolate, etc.

But you don't necessarily need the helping hand of the concierge if you're a gent (or a lady! Hell, it's 2009!) getting ready to get down on one knee. Some hotels are making it even easier, with start-to-finish packages to plan the best proposal in the history of proposals.

Hot on the heels of another big-box hotel chain getting their foot in the ol' door of the wedding biz in a big way (see Hilton's "Guestiquette" one-stop wedding site), Hyatt has just announced a way to "bring the gift of travel" to brides and grooms: The Hyatt Gift Registry.
