Inside The Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey
November 25, 2008 at 12:32 PM | 0 Comments
We spent the weekend in Room 822 at the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey.
Ok, we really only spent part of the weekend in the room. The rest of the time we chilled at the spa and by the pool, because, yes, it is still warm enough in Southern California to lay out by the (outdoor) pool. Stay tuned for our full review of the hotel coming tomorrow.
Disclosure: Abigail stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Rey at the behest of the Marina Del Rey Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Inside NYC's The Marcel at Gramercy
November 18, 2008 at 2:30 PM | 0 Comments
We love when hard work pays off. Yesterday, we dropped in to the newly re-opened Marcel at Gramercy to check out their designerly digs.
Having just completed a massive renovation, including radical upgrades like the addition of new stories to the building, The Marcel has risen in more than just height; this hidden gem in Gramercy just claimed an extra star for their efforts. Now a fully-fledged four-star, the hotel pulls out all the stops in comfort and service while maintaining the impression that they are a delicious secret.
With rates averaging around $330 per night for a large room with cheery stripes and a view of the Empire State Building, The Marcel is a strong player in the "I don't want to stay in Times Square and definitely not the Financial District"-game.
Today we are giving you a video tour from room 907, a regular corner room. Stay tuned tomorrow when we return with the full review.

Inside The Moreno Hotel

In October, we asked you to help us pick a hotel for Jaunted editor Paul Brady, and while we decided not to spring for the Faena Hotel + Universe, he was just as happy to check out the Moreno Hotel, just south of Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires' San Telmo neighborhood.
Here's his report.

Inside The Nines Hotel in Portland
November 10, 2008 at 3:30 PM | 1 Comment
We hit up the brand, spankin' new Nines Hotel in Portland this weekend.
It opened just a few weeks ago, and we know for a fact we were the first to use the hair dryer in room 1049. Perhaps we were the first to stay there? The carpets sure were clean. Nothing like the smell of new hotel.
A full review is coming tomorrow, but we'll spoil the ending for you: we loved it.

The Gallery Hotel Has So-So WiFi But Great Toiletries
October 29, 2008 at 1:39 PM | 0 Comments
Last month when we hit up Barcelona we stayed in two hotels. The first was the crazy/sexy/cool Omm Hotel which we told you about last week. The second hotel was the less sexy and less cool Gallery Hotel. But we aren't trying to be dismissive here.
The Gallery was actually a wonderful, full-service hotel just across the street from the Omm with a helpful staff, spacious rooms, an abundance of toiletries and a pretty courtyard view--at least from the room we were in.
It's just that the Gallery is not design-forward like the Omm. Staying here is not an experience in itself but it's a perfectly good place to sleep for two nights.

Inside The Rest of the Malibu Beach Inn
October 23, 2008 at 2:39 PM | 2 Comments
While it may have seemed that during our stay at the Malibu Beach Inn we only cared about the super cool iPhone application that has been custom-designed for the hotel and it guests, that's not quite the whole truth. The Malibu Beach Inn is probably the only place to stay along the Pacific Coast Highway, should you so desire.

iPhone Hotel Review at Malibu Beach Inn
October 22, 2008 at 12:59 PM | 6 Comments
When we found out that The Malibu Beach Inn was running the world's first iPhone guest management system, Hotel Evolution, naturally we had to go and try it out.
Despite the hotel's website telling us that rooms were a steep $385 a night (on a Tuesday in a recession), we actually found a rate of $258 within the site. We clicked on one of their promotions which was offering a room and dinner for select days only. Our day happened to be a select day.
So a few hours later we were checking into the Malibu Beach Inn on PCH. At check-in, we casually placed our iPhone on the counter, hoping the front desk clerk would notice it and ask us if we wanted to try the Hotel Evolution program. He did not. He was gracious in every other respect however.
We made our way up to the room and chilled for a bit, ordering that dinner as promised, in-room. As we waited, we looked around for any notes about the Hotel Evolution application. But there were none. So once we ate, we headed down to the front desk to inquire.

Barcelona Hotel Scene :: The Omm Hotel in Video
October 21, 2008 at 2:44 PM | 0 Comments
When we were visited Barcelona just a few weeks ago, we spent our first night at the Omm Hotel, just off Passeig de Gracia in the Eixample district.
While the Eixample is a bit posh and some hotels there could be seen as stuffy, the Omm made us felt as if we were in Soho. Actually, our first reaction was this is the Mercer Hotel in Spain. But larger, with even better food than the Mercer Kitchen (the Moo restaurant is a multiple award-winner) and with a rooftop pool. Yes. A rooftop pool.
For now, you can check out the video tour we did of Room 207. Tomorrow, we'll have the play-by-play on our stay here.

Hotel Video Tour: New York's Millenium Hilton
October 10, 2008 at 3:35 PM | 0 Comments
When family comes to visit in New York, there are three governing factors in choosing a hotel:
· 1. They will constantly bring up price differences between New York and their hometown, so the hotel has to be running a deal.
· 2. Walking more than four blocks is considered extraneous exercise; the hotel needs to be next to or on top of a subway station.
· 3. If you don't take them to visit the World Trade Center site, you will be disowned.
More than fulfilling all three criteria, the Financial District's Millenium Hilton proved just right to satiate temperamental Midwesterners, especially since it boasts an indoor swimming pool.
With rates for the weekend a New York bargain at $220, they just had to deal with constantly facing the WTC construction. We however, donned our earplugs and enjoyed the new perspective.
Look out for our full review of the Millenium Hilton (and its restaurant) on Monday!

The Leonardo Hotel in Munich Has Nice Rooms But You Can Do Better
October 8, 2008 at 3:16 PM | 0 Comments
You already know that we shacked up at the Leonardo Hotel in Munich and you already know that the hotel has a totally craptastic WiFi network. But today, we regal you with more stories of what it's like to stay inside this hotel.
Our story today involves strange comforters, oddly-named handwash, youth hostels, traditional Bavarian gear and vomit. Hey, it was Oktoberfest afterall.

Hotel Video Tours:: The Monte Carlo in Las Vegas
September 22, 2008 at 5:30 PM | 1 Comment
We hit up Las Vegas over the weekend and shacked up at the Monte Carlo Hotel. The hotel has recovered nicely from a dangerous fire earlier this year and we shot a video of room 20-108 to show you what it's like.
However, this is in no way a modern hotel room on the strip. Judging by the room decor, we are having a hard time believing this hotel only opened 12 years ago. Also, beware of seriously fugly room carpeting.
Enjoy the video today and we'll bring a you full review tomorrow.

Trying to Find Harrahs AC? Look for the 44-Story Video Wall
September 16, 2008 at 12:30 PM | 0 Comments
Back in May we stayed at Harrah's new Waterfront Tower during their free room giveaway in NYC. At the time one of our correspondents enjoyed their stay...and one didn't.
The Waterfront Tower's construction wasn't 100% finished at that point. Their last final touch was a huge video wall putting the ones that are already seen on Trump and Caesars to shame. Harrah's encompasses all 44 stories of the tower on all four sides.
We're not talking lights that change color every minute giving the hotel a nice glow in the evening or moving light squares like what you see on the outside of Bally's. We're talking full-blown, full-motion video baby.
