Opening Night at The Belgraves Was Not Without (Quite) a Few Teething Problems
So Belgraves – Thompson’s first hotel outside of the US – opened Wednesday night, and we were seventh to check in on opening night. What to expect? Well, according to the hotel:
Belgraves interprets the Thompson luxury experience in London, joining an ongoing creative movement in design, dining and art that is currently forging the “new Britannia”
Them’s some big promises. Anyways, we brought you pictures of the rooms and the public areas last week; this week, it’s time to talk our experience. Did it live up to our (high) expectations?

Chill Sunsets at the Southernmost Hotel in the USA
To describe the Key West hotel scene as an understatement. Key West casual carries over to most of the hotels and bed an breakfast joints on the island, including Southernmost on the Beach. Southernmost is a classic hotel that recently underwent massive renovations, which obviously means it was time for HotelChatter to check it out.
Check in / Check out:
After a four-hour drive from Miami we were hopeful that check in would be a breeze, luckily it was. We were greeted with smiles and quick service. However, when we got to room 520 on the bottom floor of Building B on the West Lawn we had to push past bikini clad dancers and a Jimmy Buffet covermeister to get into our room.
Still in the long drive fog, we didn't think we could take the happy hour party being directly outside our room nightly, so we went back to the front desk and asked to switch to a second floor room. No dice, the hotel was full, but the desk clerk assured us that the Parrothead fiesta would be over by sundown and the west lawn would clear about and be completely quiet at night.
Skeptical? Don't be, they were correct, sundown is a big deal on the west lawn, but once it is over everyone scatters and an hour after sunset you can have a west lawn hammock all to yourselves, even during high season.

Sadly, La Posada De Santa Fe Doesn't Rock As Hard As Its Soap Does
The kiva fireplace. The best bit of the room
A hotel that has soap in the shape of a rock has to be good, right? That kind of attention to detail is going to make for a spot on stay. Said soap rock was what we found when we checked into our room at La Posada De Santa Fe Resort recently. Did the rest of the experience measure up? Here goes.
Check in:
Our hopes were high on arrival to the hotel. We’d called in advance, asking whether it’d be possible for a parcel to be sent to us care of the hotel, and spoken to a concierge who sounded charming and efficient. Then our taxi driver told us La Posada was one of the best hotels in Santa Fe. It better had, we thought, since we paid $188 on Jetsetter (our room should have set us back around $300 though).
Check in was quick and easy, with a friendly man assigning us our room. There was free spa handcream at the check in desk – a nice touch in snowy Santa Fe. We walked to our room through cozy wood-panelled corridors, past the restaurant, bar, and a couple of sitting rooms strewn with art. Then outside, through the snowy courtyard and gardens. All atmospheric. Then we hit room 107, a Fireplace King.

People's Choice Award: Cosmopolitan Las Vegas

It's what you've been waiting all year for--The 2011 HotelChatter Awards! We'll be bringing you the best and worst of the year all day today and part of tomorrow. Agree or disagree with our picks? Air your thoughts in the comments below.
Despite a slew of juicy celebrity scoops and noteworthy hotel openings, it seems the one story line you guys just couldn't get enough of this year was in Las Vegas, at The Cosmopolitan. Might that have something to do with a particular bathroom incident that took place last spring in the lobby? Maaaaybe so. But, after three consecutive apologies from the hotel's PR team, we're willing to focus on The Cosmo's other, more appealing qualities—least of all, the fact that it still remains one of the prettiest hotels on the Vegas strip.
And we don't feel at all bad about sharing some of the Cosmo's glory with another crowd-pleaser from this year: New York's Mondrian Soho, which opened to a dizzying array of A-listers during Fashion Week in February.

Best Video of 2011: The Designated Room Number Rememberers at Andaz Wall Street

It's what you've been waiting all year for--The 2011 HotelChatter Awards! We'll be bringing you the best and worst of the year all day today and part of tomorrow. Agree or disagree with our picks? Air your thoughts in the comments below.
This year, we tried something a little different with our video tours, opting for more face time with hotel concierges and other staff members—in addition to the usual room inspections, bathroom tours, and otherwise. And we guess you could say we had some fun along the way...
Possibly the most entertaining of the interviews was with Assistant Front of House Manager at Andaz Wall Street, Michael Stevens. Michael opened up to us about a "lively" wedding group that had passed through earlier that weekend, and who took up 50 rooms, then got so drunk they all forgot their room numbers! But as nightmarish as it sounds, Michael's team apparently handled the situation with tact and aplomb—and lived to tell about it the following day.

The Prettiest Girl in Portlandia is Dressed To The Nines
Nearly three years after opening the Nines Hotel in Portland still looks fabulous. And considering that the hotel is housed in the former Meier and Frank department store, that's not really a surprise.
But what was surprising was just how many fascinating things there are all over the hotel. We got an in-depth tour earlier this week and could hardly stop clicking our camera. There's soo much to see here as evidenced by the hotel's awesome atrium action. But for today, we'll start off with a video tour of a deluxe queen corner room on the 9th floor with views overlooking Pioneer Square.

Just Another Dreamy Weekend In Chelsea

Yes, we finally made it to the Dream Downtown. But before we go all mushy talking about how it was everything we'd hoped it would be (of course, it's more complicated than that), let us clear something up real quick.
Despite blatantly obvious similarities, Dream Downtown and The Maritime are separate hotels. That's right—two distinct, neighboring hotels, both with portholes dotted around their exteriors. An architect by the name of Albert C. Ledner designed both buildings in the 1960s, though neither were originally planned as hotels.

Frenchman's Reef Marriott Is Getting a Face Lift, But Its Morning Star Rooms Will Stay Open
On Friday, we told you about the friendly service we encountered at the Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort. But, as we all know, personality is not everything. Looks are what we notice first.
And while Frenchman's Reef looks pretty on the outside, especially in the late afternoon light, the interior could need some work. The hotel knows it, and has just closed part of its property for a $48 million-dollar renovation.
Even better, you can still stay at the resort during the work and not be bothered by construction noise, since the beachfront boutique part of the property--the Morning Star Beach Club--along with the already-renovated Sea Cliff Tower of the main building will stay open.
Rooms in the Sea Cliff tower have great views of the ocean, and the rooms at Morning Star are right on the beach, where you can hear the waves crashing from bed, even if you close your shutters.
Here's a look at the nip/tucks taking place at Frenchman's Reef, and a sneak peek of what you can expect when the rooms re-open on October 1.
