Pre-Memorial Day we boldly announced the beginning of rooftop bar season worldwide. We have the chops to make such declarations. But in New York, specifically, the W New York – Downtown, the hotel decided the official start of summer would be called “Terrace Fest”. Why? Well, cuz they don’t really have a rooftop, per se, but their fifth floor Living Room outdoor is as good as any officially designated spot we’ve seen in our extensive NYC list (and you’ll see more soon!).
The W kicked off their summer soirees on May 29th, but no worries, there'll still be loads of parties to attend as the season winds on. In fact, there’s one tomorrow, June 4th, called “Travel Tuesday: Transport to W South Beach”! This is for the poor souls who can’t hop down to their outrageously cool Florida outpost of the brand, so they’ve brought it to Lower Manhattan, instead.

And sure enough, a tour last week through the brand spankin' new hotel's "Sanctuary Suite" confirmed all that.
Located on the second floor, it is one of two major suites in the whole 167-room hotel, and it benefits from having a wraparound terrace, complete with white deck lounge furniture and oversized, Delano-esque lamps. The terrace absolutely makes the suite, as far as we're concerned, since it a) is massive and b) looks down on Fourth Avenue, so you can see crowds coming and going from nearby Union Square.
And now, for the rest of the suite…

One thing Manhattan hotel terraces tend not to be is big. NYC is simply short on space, and hotels have to be very efficient with how they apportion what precious terrace and rooftop space they have.
So upon visiting one of the city's latest Suite Glamping spots at a penthouse inside Hyatt 48 Lex, we discovered that as much as the outdoor terrace appeals, the part that really wowed us was inside the room: the luxurious, bug-free, and fully private bathroom. Not the most ideal place to have a picnic, but great for pretty much everything else.

Well, now you know where to find us this weekend. We'll most likely be chilling out, cherry pie martini in hand, on the roof of one of our (and Demi Moore's) favorite downtown Manhattan hideouts, The Crosby Street Hotel.
Starting on Sunday, visitors can head up to the hotel's outdoor terrace, which has its own private entrance on Lafayette Street. Tucked above the lobby is an adorable little brick-walled patio with probably about as much greenery as Hudson Terrace further uptown, except this one's a lot cozier. Rather than sweeping views of the Hudson River or the Manhattan skyline, you get a little enclosed garden in the midst of other quaint Soho apartment buildings.
Though, don't be fooled. This is still Soho, so there's nothing "quaint" about the prices on the menu.
