We Spent The Week Scoping Out The Scene At The Wit Chicago
For this week that we spent in Chicago, we had a few must-sees on our list: the improvements in Millennium Park, the lakefront beaches, and The Wit Hotel in the north Loop. A new concept from Doubletreewho'd have thoughtThe Wit opened its doors at the end of May and quickly rose to the top of the Chicago nightlife scene.
Intent on snooping about the hotel, which is obviously very inspired by the more scene-y Manhattan Hotels (60 Thompson, The Hotel On Rivington), we headed to the loop for dinner at one of their restaurants and a drink on the rooftop, and we can say that The Wit definitely packs a few impressive punches.

Gansevoort NYC's Rooftop Brunch Parties Begin Tomorrow
'Tis the season for mimosas, fruity frozen concoctions and light brunch fare 'tis also the season for rooftops, bikini-clad hotties and swanky poolside bars. And where else can you get the most talked-about versions of all these things in one place this summer? Hotel Gansevoort, you trendster, you. Duh.
Tomorrow is the very first of the hotel's Get Up Get Down brunch and roof deck parties, which kick off this weekend. The parties are goin' down up at Hotel Gansevoort's Plunge bar all day long on Saturdays from 12 pm – 8 pm (rain or shine, they say there is both indoor and outdoor seating so you're alright). The Saturday party has guest DJs, house music, and signature cocktails, "like the Mango Lime Ricky and Champagne Mojito." On Sundays, the parties get started a bit later (9 pm).
On both Saturdays and Sundays (starting at 12), you'll be able to nosh on a three-course $36 menu of brunch-y fare: think "Spanish-style gazpacho with Maine lobster, grilled black angus burgers, steak frites and eggs, and cupcakes." Cupcakes.
Cupcakes! And mojitos! And rooftops! Win!

The 'Congress of Cool' Could Chill on W Washington's Roof Terrace

Cheesy “Congress of Cool” tagline aside, we’d be out of order to understate the anticipation surrounding the summer opening of DC’s first W Hotel. It’s a bubbling-under-the-surface buzz, mind you, but the nation’s capital has waited a long time to welcome a W — er, a W Hotel, that is.
Perhaps most of all, Washingtonians are eager to see what Starwood has done with the old Hotel Washington’s iconic Sky Terrace, a roof spot unrivaled for its views of the White House, Washington Monument, and, well, pretty much the rest of DC. Though beloved for its incredible views, the Sky Terrace always seemed to ooze with mediocrity previously (i.e. overpriced-but-underwhelming drinks and a touristy vibe).

The View From the Roof of The Wit Will Make You Say 'Holy...'
This week, the rooftop of Chicago's new The Wit Hotel (which is actually a boutiquey Doubletree property) hotel opens up the literal crown (ha) atop the property's residential floors, restaurants, and $199 chic rooms.
Though the hotel itself is set to open in "late May" (hey! It's late May!), the hotel website isn't accepting any rezzies until June 1st and nobody answered when we called the hotel twice this afternoon. Hmmm.
But! Chicagoist is reporting that the hotel's destination rooftop is opening up this week (perhaps along with the rest of the hotel?), "featuring two outdoor patios, an indoor lounge with full bars, fireplaces, a small plates menu featuring fire-baked pizzas, and a 27th-story bird's eye view of State Street."
Chicagoist got an inside look at the space holy sh cow(ahem) views and all; check 'em out here.

The Hudson's Sky Terrace is Open For the Season
Yeah, we know: you've had a hankerin' for some super expensive cocktails up on the Hudson Hotel's Sky Terrace ever since you saw a rerun of that Gossip Girl episode where Blair threw that snoozefest "welcome back from the Hamptons" party for her friends up there at the beginning of the season.
Well, good news, kids: as of last night, the Sky Terrace has opened for the season...to the public. Well, sorta. Yesterday, 150 "of New York’s movers & shakers" got a look at the Sky Terrace at an exclusive soiree with a guest list that included New York big-names Luigi Tadini, Amanda Hearst, Richie Rich, Antony Todd and Susan Shin, with entertainment by singer Alexa Wilding.
The spot has now officially opened up for the summer season and, for the first time ever, access is available to the public (not just hotel guests and private partygoers) but you have to call the hotel to make a reservation. Ask for the bar reservations line when you call the Hudson, and go from there. All summer long, the Sky Terrace be offering a selection of appetizers, salads and sandwiches from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM every day.

Standard LA's Summertime Rooftop Parties Start This Weekend
Alright, if you're not down with booze sno-cones with the hipster crowd at the Ace Palm Springs 'cause a swanky LA rooftop is more your speed, we've got happy news for you: this Saturday and Sunday mark the beginnings of the Standard LA's monthly rooftop parties, Honey on the Rooftop and Compression.
Every third Saturday this summer, The Honey Collective, a Los Angeles-based all-female DJ and Production team, provides the soundtrack to a rooftop soiree dubbed "Honey on the Rooftop" from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The first of the summer is going down tomorrow and if you can't read a calendar, June 6th, June 27th, July 18th, August 8th, August 29th and September 19th are your other chances to catch this party.
If Sunday drinking sessions are more your jam, this Sunday kicks off Compression which is a rooftop pool party that is apparently so awesome that it can only happen once a month. On the 3rd Sunday of each month this summer (not every three weeks), you can get down to a "worldly blend of Techno, including Tech-House and Minimal" (er, we're sure someone knows what that means) and guest DJ's in addition to residents. This Sunday, you've got Ivan Smagghe, Amber Reyngoudt and Compression Resident DJ's Robtronik, Matt Xavier, and Andre Ezer. This is also running 1:00 to 8:00.
And, yes: you have to be 21+ to get in. Sorry, kiddos.

One Last Rooftop Bar Before the Weather Changes :: Hotel Metro

So there we were, after a long slog at work and literally shuffling across town... when a neon sign caught our eye: Hotel Metro's "Roof Top Bar - Open 5-7pm."
We snuck inside the tiny lobby - the concierge wasn't even sure the bar was open, but we confirmed with the host at the ground level bar - and took the elevator up to the penthouse, past some crazy chick doing her thang on one of those calf-building gadgets, and out onto the roof.
Now, we have to brag a little that we can see the Empire State Building out our apartment window...but one word here will serve: Woah. We have NEVER seen the Empire State so close, so huge, so colossally looming, with its colors just coming into bloom in the evening sky.

LA's Hotel Bar Scene Kicks Into High Gear
Hey, LA: do you hear that clickity-clack sound? That's a stampede of stilleto-clad starlets and wanna-be starlets heading straight toward you for some summertime party action.
But no need to lock up your booze cabinet; they have no desire to raid your house now that a bunch of new hotel bar hotspots have opened.
The LA Times reports that Suede inside the Westin Bonaventure is opened up yesterday (June 22nd), adding a second, slightly-more-private bar to their ground floor.
Phil Spector is most definitely not welcome there.

Express Checkout: Rooftop Bars In Manhattan

We were teased with some nice weather last week, but unfortunately as we head into Memorial Day weekend, the weather gods have crapped on us again.
When it turns nice again, here's a bunch of hotels with rooftop bars to enjoy. Remember: Some places require a room key and some don't. And contrary to popular belief the Pod Hotel, pictured, just has a rooftop deck--and it's BYOB.
