The Marlin's Rooms Are Ready, And They Have iPads

Yes, Miami Beach already has a hotel with a recording studio--The Setai--but now, with the return of the rock-boutique Marlin Hotel, it will have a hotel with a recording studio and iPads in the guestrooms.
Oh, and a helluva cool history. Back when, South Beach was Madonna's playground and the hotel was run by Island Outpost gent Chris Blackwell.
The lounge, named for Blackwell, has been open since the spring. But now that the Marlin has a new website, we get to scope out the rooms. There are four different kinds of studios and, coming in December, a two bedroom suite with partial ocean view, two king beds, two bathrooms with rainfall showers and a 'glass-enclosed wet room,' which we can only imagine is a spacious shower. (Stocked with Bigelow bath goodies. Yay.)

Another Miami Hotel Gets Back In The Game, This Time The Marlin

While the corner of 11th Street and Collins Ave in Miami Beach transforms into a living and breathing Dream South Beach, there is other Deco hotel action going on nearby, too. Lords South Beach opened late last year across the street and now up in the 1200 block, former Island Outpost hotspot, the Marlin Hotel is set to re-open.
Unfortch, the hotel's website offers few clues as to when the boutique property will open its rooms, but thanks to the nightlife gurus at UrbanDaddy we know that the Marlin's bar, Elite Lounge has just opened on the ground floor. Apparently, 14 new-look guest rooms as well as a rooftop lounge and a cigar bar, will soon follow.

What Celeb Went by Codename 'Cherry Cola' at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis?
Where: Charlestown, Saint Kitts and Nevis
Today we finish our coverage (see the other stories here) of the Four Seasons Nevis’ re-opening. Finally we'll reveal the first celebrity to test the place out:
Funny-man Jon Stewart may have been a recent guest at the Four Seasons’ residence villas, but instead we got distracted by news that a Tinseltown lass was visiting the hotel itself and was going by the codename of "Cherry Cola." Most intriguing. So...who's that girl? None other than Mary-Louise Parker of Showtime “Weeds” fame (and two of our favorite chick flicks, Fried Green Tomatoes and Boys on the Side).
Many on Twitter guessed that "Cherry Cola" was Rihanna, but although RiRi is from Barbados and therefore would have good reason to be relaxing in the Caribbean, it was actually a huge surprise to find fair-skinned Parker hitting the beach instead.

Beaucoup Beach Amenities at the Newly Reopened Four Seasons Resort Nevis
Where: Charlestown, Saint Kitts and Nevis
Today we continue our coverage (see yesterday's story here) of the Four Seasons Nevis’ re-opening. Tune-in tomorrow for detes on the resort's recent celebrity guest—a Showtime-series star whose new hotel code name is Cherry Cola.
Poor Four Seasons Nevis. The resort has had beacoup bad luck. Hurricane Lenny slapped the hotel silly in 1999 and in 2008, the hotel shuttered for two years after Hurricane Omar "mash it up" as locals called it. When the announcement came that the FS was definitely reopening in December 2010, at the tail end of a recession, we wondered if all would be the same. But, rather than cheap-out on amenities, treats, and services like other depressed hotels, the luxe keeps going, with a few new perks tossed in. We love a happy ending to a sad story.

Cabana Time: Peaking Inside the Renovated Four Seasons Resort Nevis
For the next few days, we'll give you the skinny on the re-opening of the Four Seasons Nevis in the Caribbean, and our favorite—and not so favorite—things. Be sure to tune-in Friday for the lowdown on the resort's recent A-list guest—a very cool lady who goes by codename at the resort.
At one point—oh, say the fourth time there was a reopening date on the Four Seasons Nevis’ website—we swore it was never gonna happen. Hurricane Omar put the hotel out of commission in 2008, and after several notices of rebound netted zero, we sorta lost interest. In fact, on a flight home from the island in 2009, several FS employees, including chefs and engineers, were boarding our plane en route to an extra-long vacation. They didn’t know if the hotel would ever come back. That is not a good sign.
It would be a pity too, since Nevis is one of those islands few know much about. It's a paradise unspoiled by crowds, but without the Four Seasons’ island revenue, it seemed like the island had lost its mojo, partially also because other local hoteliers depend heavily on FS traffic to their restaurants and business.
So, when the news broke last fall that the FS would definitely (though softly) swing open its doors in December, we did a little jig. The island would be saved! And we're happy to report that the hotel has reopened after an extensive renovation, and we've got some of the very first pics:

London's Royal Horseguards is Reopening on the Cheap

Normally when a hotel gets refurbished to the tune of £16 million in London, they try to make their money back by ramping up the price. Not so The Royal Horseguards, on the bank of the Thames. To celebrate its total overhaul, it’s flogging rooms for £129 including breakfast (a saving of over £200 on the rackrate). The offer’s valid March 31, just mention code MMM33.
And once you’re there, keep an eye on your fellow guests – the hotel claims it’s “known for its use by the Secret Service”, as they colonised the eighth floor during the Second World War.
While we can’t guarantee that your guys hang out there still, we do know that it’s just a block from 10 Downing Street, a five minute walk from the Houses of Parliament and round the back of various government buildings. So the chances of you bumping into a politician or a mandarin of some sort must be fairly high. A word of warning, though – ours aren’t as sexy as yours, so don’t expect any John Favreaus around…

St. Regis Vancouver Re-Opens Dec. 1st at $103 a Night

This week we saw one of the cheapest Ritz-Carlton rates in New Orleans for $100 a night and now we are witnessing one of the lowest St. Regis Hotel rates at $134CAD a night which is roughly $103USD. However, there is a catch--this isn't actually a Starwood-branded St. Regis Hotel. Nevertheless, a newly renovated hotel in this Canadian city is still a pretty good deal for a $100 is a deal.
The St. Regis Vancouver has just completed an $11 million renovation which has brought all of its 65 rooms and suite into the 21st century.
Led by Vancouver design icon Elaine Thorsell, the visionary behind masterpieces like Toronto's Ki and Vancouver's Gotham and Shore Club, the renovations have added a sleek, modern lustre to this authentic Vancouver heritage site. Thorsell's aesthetic is distinctive and sophisticated, and in reshaping the St. Regis she has blended cool neutral colours with dark wood to create a living environment which perfectly balances work and rest needs.

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel to Re-Open on Dec. 20th

Hopefully the hotel will update the room photos soon. This is seriously from the Golden Girls era.
After shutting down for two years due to earthquake damage, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii, is expected to open again on Dec. 20th in a soft opening. The hotel, which is part of the Prince Hotels and Resorts, got a complete makeover in the process too. From the Honolulu-Advertiser:
The number of rooms and suites was reduced from 310 to 258 because some rooms in the main building were enlarged. The renovations focused on improvements to guest rooms and suites, restaurants, the lobby and other common areas, the company said.
The amenities found inside the rooms also got upgraded. They will now have 32 to 40" HDTVs, iPod docking stations, WiFi, complimentary bottled water, L'Occitane toiletries and Frette sheets. So it's safe to say that the pictures on the website are from the a few years ago. We hope, god how we hope.
We found rooms in January starting around $450 for a mountain view room. That seems kinda pricey so may we suggest Jaunted's guide to Hawaii on the Cheap if you're watching your pennies.

Snapshot :: The Dolder Grand Hotel Re-Opens and Thousands Show Up To See

This here's a snapshot of the Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich, Switzerland which will have its official re-opening ceremony tomorrow. The hotel has been closed for four years to undergo a $400 million renovation by renowned architects Foster and Partners.
Apparently, the city and its residents were so eager to see the results of the makeover the hotel opened its doors over the weekend for public viewing days. It is estimated about 20,000 people showed up to get a sneak peek. Hmmm...if only we had been in Zurich yesterday instead of New York.
In other news:
· The London West Hollywood: The hotel opened yesterday and we'll have a review for you first thing in the morning.
· Citizen M Hotels: The booking engine is live at citizenM.com. Book a stay at the Amsterdam Schipol for visits later than June 21, 2008. Online bookers get 15 percent off too.
· DC Hotels: Our nation's capital might be getting another chic hotel.
· Avalon Beverly Hills: The hotel is hosting a special prix-fix Earth Day dinner at the blue on blue restaurant from April 21-26. It's $55 per person, not including drinks, tax and gratuity.
