The Tank at the Golden Nugget in Downtown Las Vegas is just one of many reasons to consider booking a room away from the Strip. Can you slide down a waterslide through a shark tank on the Strip? No, you cannot. You can only do it at the GN.
We popped into the Golden Nugget's pool scene today and had a blast watching folks shoot out the slide. We even got a pic of someone sliding through. Yup, thar's a person in that slide thur on the left! Which reminded us of this photo that was given to us by the hotel to illustrate how the slide works. Hmmm...yeah...ok.
While we absolutely recommend hitting up the Golden Nugget for an overnight stay (particularly a room in the new-ish Rush Tower), just don't expect to be able to ogle frightened beauties as they slide through the tank. The sharks, however, are very real.
P.S. You can watch some scuba divers cleaning the other massive fish tank at Golden Nugget here.
Yesterday, we commented on the guestrooms at the upcoming Four Seasons Baltimore by saying they looked "decidedly Four Seasons" meaning they look pretty darn similar to other Four Seasons hotels. But we were still shocked when a tipster pointed out that the room photo is ripped off from the Four Seasons Seattle's website!
So you can see for yourselves, we put the room shots together above. The room photo on the bottom is the Four Season Seattle's partial bay view room while the one on the top is the Four Seasons Baltimore's generic room shot. Thanks to the trickery of photoshop, the view has been swapped out to show Baltimore's city streets and not Seattle's Elliott Bay.
We are suckers for a room with a killer view. We find that we are even more likely to forgive some minor hotel inconveniences if we can stare out the window at something pretty--yeah we are that shallow. Let's help out our fellow hotel mavens by uploading rooms with killer views to the HotelChatter/Flickr photo pool, or by sending the photo along to us. We will feature our favorites in this space from time to time. Remember to tell us the name of the hotel and the room number of the hot view.
Way back in 2006, in the early days of calling out hotel website photos for being a little too embellished, we made fun of the Marriott Niagara Falls room photos because they so clearly were photoshopped. C'mon, is there a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow too?
We were able to determine that hotel was not "dangerously" close to Niagara Falls but that it was definitely the closest hotel yet and provided you get the right room category, you could have a pretty killer view of the falls.
Photographic proof of that comes from Mr.Kathika, who dropped this shot of Room 1422 into the HotelChatter Flickr Pool. There's no rainbow over the falls and you can't jump out the window in barrel but that view of Niagara is amazing. Room rates start at $119 CAD for a queen room with views of Niagara and a fireplace.
