Five on Instagram: The Best Hotel Photos This First Full Week of February
With all the design details in hotels, it's no wonder they're the perfect place to get creative with Instagram photos. We're kind of obsessed with browsing the #hotel tag, and every other week, we'll bring you 5 of our favorite shots that impart major wanderlust. And don't forget to follow our own shots on Instagram under "hotelchatter," "jaunted" and "vegaschatter."

Hotels to Follow Right Now on Instagram
Know what's crazy boring and frustrating? Trying to decide whether or not to stay at a hotel by looking at their tiny, staged room photos on a website. This is why we do our best to get in and give you some massive photo galleries to flip through, but now hotels are taking it upon themselves to get creative by using the iPhone photo sharing app Instagram.
To put it plainly, Instagram allows its users to post their own shots (most taken on the fly, via iPhone) applied (or not) with filters to jazz it up the visual oomph. The community is crawling with design, travel, architecture, photography and foodie geeks, which makes it a perfect place to show off your property if you're a hotel.
We've recently joined Instagram ourselves (search hotelchatter & jaunted in the app to find our photostreams) and we're sharing original snaps from our own hotel stays. Still, we searched to find the hotel accounts on Instagram to follow right now:

Snapshot Of The Week: Harbor-Gazing In Hong Kong
Where: 18 Salisbury Road, Hong Kong
There is one particular trend @HotelChatter happens to quite enjoy: candid hotel photos. These pics range from stunning views to anti-views to celebrity tomfoolery and everything in between. And we can't get enough of 'em! Every Monday, we commemorate our favorite hotel-themed snapshot du semaine. Got a favorite of your own? Want to show off your sweet suite?Send it in!

After seeing our picks from InterContinental's photo album on Facebook two weeks ago, one reader felt they had another photo worthy of the collection. Namely, this shot taken from a room at the InterContinental Hong Kong. See the Macbook Air on the desk? That's how we know we're dealing with something candid, rather than a totally staged shot.

The Fancy Shows Some Hotel Love

Just in time for the holidays, a new social networking site has launched that allows users to create wish lists of all their favorite things from the web. Say, for example, you like the Loden Dager denim bathrobes at Hotel Americano; or this vintage photo of the original Ace New York building. By "fancy-ing" each new item, you start to build a virtual "collection" of stuff that allows other users to follow you, be inspired by your things, or recommend new things for you to like.
Like any lifestyle blog or online store, The Fancy has quite a few categories to browse through (men's, women's, gadgets, art, food, etc), but one tag that seems to do particularly well? Hotels.

Get Comfortable While You Enjoy New Art At Le Centre Sheraton Montreal

Le Centre Sheraton Montreal has acquired the rights to 40 archival photographs from the city's nearby McCord Museum, and the photos are to be displayed exclusively in the hotel's meeting rooms. A recent $40 million renovation enabled the artsy purchase, as well as the addition of some swanky new banquet chairs.
Designed with fidgety, conference-bound business travelers in mind, these aerodynamically-configured chairs provide laptop storage space underneath the seat and a hook on the back of the chair (for backpacks, umbrellas, fruit cornucopias). In short, the hotel is doing away with beds completely, and now asking frazzled business travelers to get cozy in their banquet chairs for the duration of their stay.

Strike A Pose For Fashion Week

If there's any hotel that's going above and beyond the call of duty this Fashion Week, we're pretty sure the award goes to W. Not only did they perfectly time the announcement of the clean sheets-loving Jenné Lombardo as Global Fashion Director, they are also turning their own lobbies "living rooms" into photo studios.
From now until Thursday, photography students from NYC's Parsons The New School for Design will be setting up in the public spaces at W's four locations (W Downtown, W New York, W TImes Square, and W Union Square) to photograph all the fashionable crowds. So if you find yourself inside a W hotel between the hours of 5pm and 7pm, and think to yourself, "gee, I'm looking awfully dapper right now. Someone should photograph me!" then you know where to go.

Annie Leibovitz Captures Unexpected Portraits At The Peninsula
Another year, another awesome series of portraits of the staff of Peninsula Hotels by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. It's the fifth year for the partnership between the luxury hotels and Leibovitz, and they've given her free rein to roam the Peninsula Chicago and Peninsula Tokyo properties in order to capture what truly is the spirit of the brand in its employees.
The resulting images will delight both hotel dorks and lovers of black & white photography, as we'd not only love to have the picture above hanging over our couch, but we find it moving in terms of illustrating the Peninsula's tradition of ultra-attentive service. Other pictures feature the doormen, like Chicago's lead doorman Timothy Hitchcock helping a young girl into a car, and even laundry staff and room attendants.

Dive Into Photography at The Divi Resort in Bonaire

Say "Bonaire," that laid back little spit of land in the Caribbean, and people will respond, "diving paradise."
For decades, the island has been a world-class diving destination with a gorgeous reef. Go to Flickr and you'll get just a small taste of astonishing shots of the island from the underside.
But you're thinking there's no WAY you can take pictures like that, right? This can be remedied.
Divi Flamingo Beach Resort just announced its onsite camera shop, Capture Photo, is offering a class for all levels of swimmers and shutterbugs to perfect their sub-aquatic shots.

Hello Kitty S&M Room At Hotel Adonis Osaka
Earlier this year Dwell magazine contributor Misty Keasler displayed her Japanese Love Hotel photos at Jenkins Johnson Gallery New York, and Photographs Do Not Bend in Dallas.
Misty lived in Japan for eight months, and while she was there she took enough stunning love hotel photos to put together a book--Love Hotels: The Hidden Fantasy Rooms of Japan
As we have discussed before, there are 30,000 to 40,000 love hotels in Japan that are frequented by young unmarried couples who live with their families, married couples who may live in very tight quarters with family, couples in extramarital affairs, prostitutes with their customers, and Kelly Osbourne. These hotels feature "menus" and while you can stay in a room for the night, if you check in after 10 P.M., most folks rent these rooms by the hour.
The above photo was taken by Misty, at Hotel Adonis, a Osaka love hotel specializing in S&M rooms featuring cute cartoon characters. One of the rooms at Adonis, the Hello Kitty S&M room features a Kitty plush doll wearing a ball gag, blind fold, and barbed wire garter belts.
Hotel Adonis also has rooms with glow in the dark jelly fish, a prison cell, and a high school classroom.
We have done our best to put Hotel Adonis Osaka on our Japanese Love Hotels map, let us know if the location needs changing.
