Flyin' High Inside a Penthouse At 48Lex

Remember when we showed you a snapshot of a Hyatt 48Lex conference room that had been converted into a makeshift clothing boutique? Well, the real reason we were there that day was to tour one of the Hyatt's 23rd-floor penthouse suites. And boy, are they looking good.
Space is not one of the hotel's assets (consistently a problem in New York)—at 116 rooms, the lean glass tower is more efficient than luxuriant in that sense. But the feel, in both the standard rooms, the suites, and the Lexicon Lounge, is very distinctly New York: compact, sleek, and sturdy.

Sleeping Under The Stars At AKA Central Park

Recently, we've done quite a bit of coverage on hotel rooftops in NYC. We tallied a top ten list of rooftop bars. Then we assembled an additional five places. Then we told you about Chef Richard Farnabe's 37 tomatoes on top of the Soho Grand. And now, you can sleep on one. A rooftop, that is.
Remember how jealous you felt when we took you inside the penthouse at AKA Central Park? Well, they've stepped up their game. In case you forgot, AKA is a hotel-condominium hybrid service that rents out high-end apartments for as long as they are needed. Could be for a week. It could be for five weeks. But assuming you fit the bill—rich commuter, needs a lot of privacy—a fully-furnished private apartment for upwards of $395 a night appeals for its convenience more than anything else. But what about $3,000?

Stay at the Buckingham Hotel's Penthouse For a Song

If you’ve dreamed of living in a New York penthouse but only ever get as far as flipping through the ads in the Times real estate section, you might now be closer to living your dream thanks to the Buckingham Hotel. Sitting atop the small boutique hotel near Carnegie Hall is The Martinelli Penthouse, which was once home to opera singer Giovanni Martinelli when he was performing at the Met, and also used by musical star Bobby Van as a dance studio.
Now, the two-bedroom duplex with a totally awesome terrace is available for meetings, private parties, and of course as hotel accommodations for cashed-up guests. We know, we know, you’re thinking: why are you telling me this? I could never afford something so luxurious. That’s what we thought—but then we learned that the Buckingham has slashed the regular rate for the penthouse by 50%.

Fifty Cent and Ciara Kick It in AKA New York's Penthouse
And now we know of three people who have stayed at an AKA Extended Stay hotel (so many celebs grabbing headlines from their stays at AKA these days!): Page Six is reporting today that the AKA Times Square, the ultra-luxe extended-stay property in Manhattan, may have been the birthplace of a hip-hop power couple as badass and song-worthy as Beyonce and Jay-Z.
From the NY Post:
Could this be the start of a match made in hip-hop heaven? A source tells us rapper 50 Cent and Ciara recently shacked up together for a night in one of the penthouse suites at the AKA Times Square Hotel & Residences on West 44th Street. "And there was only one bed in that penthouse," our source observed.
In all fairness, there is more than one penthouse at that property, and they can have both one or two-bedroom layouts depending on which one they chose. And um, in case you want to live out a romantic evening a la Fiddy and Ciara: rates for a one-bedroom penthouse start at $2,995, and we're assuming the security here is a little better than at the Philly AKA property.

Celebrate an Obama or McCain Victory in Nine Zero's Cloud Nine Penthouse

Let's be real, here: you're going to stimulate the economy in some way after the election. You're either going to go out for a nice champagne dinner to celebrate the election of your fave candidate, or you're going to invest in a bottle of Jack Daniels and spend lots of money to gas up your car to run away to Canada.
We cannot offer you an alternative (or a better idea, really) if you find yourself in the latter situation, but we can recommend that you go all out if your fave candidate does win and you want to contribute to the ol' economy by celebrating presidential-style: yet another election-themed package! This one's a post-election celebration, though: The "Cloud Nine" package at Nine Zero Hotel in Boston.
This one involves a penthouse, secret-service-style security, plentiful champagne, and possibly donuts, ABBA and pistachios as well -- depending on who wins.
