Bad Rate (for Alcoholics): Hotel Monteleone's Absinthe Expert
The annual festival, Tales of the Cocktail, will kick off in New Orleans tomorrow at 2 p.m. a the Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter.
Here the official cocktail of the festival will be unveiled and over the next few days, more than 2,000 people are expected to roam about the city, attending cocktail parties, dining at fine restaurants and getting drunk.
But if you're on the wagon or if you've promised yourself that the one time you tried absinthe in Prague would be your last, then be careful. The hotel will be paying homage to the dangerous drink:
Tales of the Cocktail will also feature a tasting of the only bona fide absinthe produced anywhere in the world by New Orleans native Ted Breaux. The absinthe chemist will be on hand with his painstakingly, distilled liqueur for the Absinthe Discussion at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hotel Monteleone.
If you can handle your liquor or just want to get the hell out of rehab, regular room rates at the hotel start at $238 for a double.

Riot Hyatt Party Features K-Fed Wannabes

Go Straight to HotelChatter Hollywood Star Map
The Riot Hyatt is well-known in these parts for hosting the heavy metal hairbands back in the 80s and a party the night before Fourth of July seemed to pay homage to that part of the hotel's history.
Held on the very top floor of the hotel, this Riot @ the Hyatt Party brought together a freaky crowd (some guests dressed as 80s hair band rockers) who partied in the Sunset Ballroom. While the rooftop pool was adjacent (thankfully) the partiers were not allowed to dive in.
But they were treated to a bunch of dancers doing some crazy choreography as green laser lights flashed in the background. This reminds us of those cheesy 80s movies were people at a dance party end up doing the same dance routine. Only scarier. And if K-Fed hadn't met Britney, we are convinced he would have been one of these dancers.
In our opinion, the one good thing about this hotel party may have been the views of Los Angeles from the top of the hotel. But we don't think that was even worth the hotel's $20 valet parking fee.
