More exciting news for fans of 21c Museum Hotels, but you’ll have to hang in there until late 2017/early 2018. The quirky art/design hotel chain is coming to downtown Indianapolis, and the project involves one of the city’s prized possessions, the Old City Hall.

21c Museum Hotels will have some good company when their Nashville property opens as several hot brands like Ace, Virgin and Thompson are expected to populate the Music City. But when it comes to the hotel scene of Durham, North Carolina, we think the forthcoming 21c Museum Hotel in downtown will have the artsy boutique hotel game on lock.
Designed by Deborah Berke Partners, the 125-room hotel will have all the hallmarks of a 21c Museum hotel. That means it's part boutique hotel and part contemporary art museum, with a chef-driven restaurant thrown in too.
The art museum will be open and free to all visitors, not just hotel guests and will feature "curated exhibitions, interactive site specific installations and a full roster of cultural programming." Elsewhere at the hotel will be a lounge, a fitness center and a spa. As for the signature 21c Museum penguin, the Durham penguin will be rocking a bright fuchsia color.

Well, lookie here. Luxury eco-hotel brand, 1 Hotels has unveiled a new website for the 1 Hotel Central Park AND they are even taking reservations for March 2015. (We had a feeling that a fall opening wasn't going to happen.)
A tipster let us know about the new website for 1 Hotel Central Park, and it is rather cool. Not only is the site full of details and gorgeous photos, but it's incredible easy, and pleasant, to navigate, dropping in hotel information with city information and general eco-conscious lifestyle information. We also like how the room categories are listed with starting rates attached. Speaking of rooms, here is how the Alcove Queen room is described:
Reclaimed wood, raw materials, painted brick walls and accents of blackened steel and copper surround a plush, queen-sized bed in the heart of the city, complete with a generous closet for your belongings.
Other room categories are Alcove Kings, and Studio, City and Park rooms with king beds. (The latter two denote the type of view.) There's a handful of rooms with two beds too.
Amenities in the guest rooms include a Keesta mattress, a triple filtered water system, complimentary Oogave Natural sodas in the minibar, yoga mat, in-room coffee and tea, and exclusive, organic 1 Hotels toiletries.
There's also a goodie bag given on arrival filled with healthy snacks and each room has a floor-to-ceiling slot of living plants so you're greeted with a "fresh boost" every time you walk in the door. Smells, er, sounds wonderful!
Chicago has been a breeding ground for new hotels and new hotel concepts for a few years now. We even named it the Best Hotel Scene back in 2011. But the hospitality winds of change are just starting to pick up.
By our count, 8 very important hotels will open in Chicago in the next two years. Of course, there will be many, many, more hotels opening than just eight. But here are the ones we're dying to sleep with.
1. Virgin Chicago: At long last, Virgin Hotels finally revealed its much hyped but much covered up hotel concept last week. And we are loving it. Rooms will officially open to guests in the dead of winter on January 15 at $209 a night. We're currently hunting down a faux fur coat to accompany us on our virgin stay with Virgin Hotels.

Finding a hotel room is easy. Simply go on the Internet or use your smartphone and voila! You're booked. But if you are only interested in new hotels, then that's a different story. Luckily, you have us. And we're obsessed with new hotels. Here's a list of hotels that have opened or are opening this month (and a few that aren't going to make it.) Got a new hotel to add? Send it to us!
OPENING THIS MONTH
· Rosewood Beijing: We've been eying this property for quite some time and now we're excited to see it will open on October 23. The first Rosewood for China, the Rosewood Beijing will have 283 rooms opposite the twisting CCTV Tower by Rem Koolhaas. There's a Sense Spa on site (complete with Spa Suites that you can book) and six restaurants and bars to choose from. Rates start at 2,050 CNY a night for a deluxe room with a king bed. That's about $334 USD.
· AC HOTELS BY MARRIOTT NEW ORLEANS : The first stateside AC Hotels by Marriott is promising to open in the Big Easy this month. But for now, no reservations are being accepted on the website. We plugged in dates in October and November and the dreaded "unsuccessful sell" came up. However, we do know that the hotel will be opening by November 12. So it's just a matter of getting the reservations system done.
NOT GONNA MAKE IT
· W BEIJING: We've been skeptical of the W Beijing's opening date for a really long time. Last we heard, they would open in September but now the hotel is saying it will open on November 1 instead. We're already starting to lose interest.
· HOTEL ZOO BERLIN: The reopening of the historic Hotel Zoo in Berlin will not happen this month. Instead, the new look will be unveiled on November 3 with rates start at 121 euros a night. We've been kept in the dark on the design details of the renovation but these rooms pics are showing off some pretty luxe spaces. We likey.

The upcoming Waldorf Astoria Beijing actually wasn't on our radar when we released our Master List of Hotel Openings last month (mea culpa!) But with its March 1 opening just a few weeks away, we're honing in on what is expected to be the brand's most contemporary and art-conscious hotel to date.
Located in downtown Beijing, across from the Peninsula Hotel and within walking distance to the Forbidden City, the Waldorf Astoria is a brand-new building with an unusual bronze exterior, giving it a crazy cool effect. And according to general manager, Marlene Poynder, the bronze will cause the exterior's color to change over time. Even cooler.
Poynder also filled us in on some of the amenities expected inside the 176-room hotel such as AppleTV hookups (not available for sale in China), Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries and Samsung tablets that controls nearly everything inside the room.
The hotel's interiors were done by design firm Yabu Pushelberg but they still incorporate elements of Chinese design such as traditional dressers, intricate rugs and silk-paneled walls. The hotel is also filled with contemporary Chinese art including the Waldorf Astoria Clock (found in each Waldorf Astoria hotel) which "appears weightless while resting in its glass cabinet, creating the illusion that it is floating, or of 'time being suspended.'"
It's been nearly three years since the legendary Sahara Hotel closed down in Las Vegas and we've been stalking the property's transformation into the SLS Las Vegas ever since. And now, thanks to our super SLS stalker sibling, VegasChatter, we've got an opening date--Labor Day Weekend.
Hotelier Sam Nazarian announced the date on the SLS blog simply saying:
Hello Vegas! It’s been an incredible journey these past few years and I’m proud and humbled by some big news – SLS Las Vegas is officially opening Labor Day Weekend 2014. Looking forward to toasting The Strip’s next chapter with you! We are “back” indeed!
No word on when the room reservations will open or how much they will cost but given that Labor Day weekend is a big weekend in Vegas and this is a much-hyped new hotel and casino, we bet it will be a pretty penny. But we'll do our best to get in there on opening day.
Still interested in attending opening weekend? You can always book the SLS 5th Anniversary Package which includes two tickets to the SLS Las Vegas opening. For "only" $10,000!

We've looked at insane Valentine's Day packages, considered a few of the sensible ones and rolled our eyes at the predictable amenities hotels will roll out over the next few weeks. But we think we've finally found the one.
It has everything we love--a boutique sensibility and size, with new, never-been-touched beds and an ideal location in the heart of SoHo. It's called The Broome NYC and it's opening on Valentine's Day.
The Broome, at 431 Broome Street, has just fourteen rooms spread through a five-story building, originally built in 1825. The room categories range from a standard queen to deluxe along with a junior suite and a penthouse suite. Amenities include furnishings by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, plush-top mattresses, Bellimo sheets and Samsung SmartTVs. The starting room categories are small but the penthouse has a 400-sq.ft private terrace for a reasonable amount (just $500 on opening night.)

We knew an opening had to be close when we walked by the Peninsula Paris in early October and saw that the facade had been freed of construction wrapping. Now, Le Figaro is reporting that the luxury hotel will actually open on August 1st.
We tried to read the article using our rudimentary French skills but we picked up the most important part--the opening date. Besides we already knew that the hotel would have 200 rooms, an all-day dining restaurant in The Lobby, a Chinese restaurant, cigar lounge, a rooftop bar and terrace and an 18,000 square foot spa below ground with indoor pool.
The hotel's website is not taking reservations yet but we hope that changes in the new year.
Hat tip to Hoteliere de Luxe for the heads up.

The other month we got the jitters when we heard on-the-street rumors that the first-ever Virgin Hotel in Chicago might not happen.
Yet before we dropped to our knees, hands on our face, asking "Why, why?", Virgin assured us that Chicago would happen by early 2014 and that it would in fact be the first Virgin hotel to open (we had also heard Chicago might not be the virgin Virgin hotel.)
Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal evenmentioned in an interview with Hotel News Now that Virgin Hotels had some pretty grand expansion plans, rattling off places like California, Spain and London. Today, we now know exactly where Virgin is looking.
In the bottom line of a recent Virgin Hotels sales and marketing hire release they included this bit:
Virgin Hotels Chicago is currently under construction and scheduled to open in the spring of 2014. Additional locations under consideration for Virgin Hotels properties include Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Palm Springs, San Francisco, Washington DC, London, and others.
Not totally surprising locations (especially not Los Angeles which we've written about before) but still exciting to hear and to think about.
However, the next bit of news from Virgin Hotels better be about what the hotel brand will actually look like and what it will include. So far, we know absolutely nothing about it. We're guessing there's gonna be mood lighting of some sort and free WiFi but we're gonna need something more to maintain this, erec, er, excitement.
