New Shangri-La Ningbo Gives Shanghai Luxury Style For Just $120 a Night

Although properties in New York and Chicago are out of the picture for now, Shangri-La Hotels are continuing to expand in Asia, just opening a new fancy high-rise is the Chinese city of Ningbo. The Shangri-La Ningbo would be your typical five-star property, if it weren't boasting of special introductory rates as low as $120 and a residential community of 60 apartments.

Available until December 31 for stays in a deluxe room, the $120 opening deal will hopefully attract tourists on a sidetrip from visiting Shanghai, as Ningbo is just across the Huangzhou Bay. For that $120, you'll get a whole bunch of free stuff: free buffet breakfast, free broadband internet access, free use of hookups and speakers for iPods and other digital accessories, and access to the gym with pool and two tennis courts.

W Magazine Goes Inside the Ace Hotel NYC

As spring seems only a few uncomfortable holidays away, the buzz for the Ace Hotel New York's February/March opening continues to grow. Newest to the heat is W Magazine, who, for reasons unknown, sent their fashion operatives to pick apart details of the hotel's model room. Although W didn't have much more to say than last month's Monocle coverage of the same, they did dig the vintage finds:

In a nod to the nearby Garment District, guests hang clothes on pipes meant to suggest rolling dress racks and stash shoes in antique sewing bins bought at Paris’s Clignancourt flea market. The lobby is outfitted with vintage furniture and inherited its coffered ceiling and mosaic floor from the spot’s former occupant, the Hotel Breslin; three wood-paneled walls, salvaged from a Park Avenue apartment’s library, enclose a bar.

Ace Hotel NYC's Bunk Beds Open to Reservations

This has been quite the year for hotels, and most notably in New York where not one, but two former SRO residences are entering second lives as hip hotspots. The recent months may have been dominated by the transformation of The Jane from the old Hotel Riverview, but now the playing field widens as the Seattle-based Ace Hotel preps to pounce onto New York's scene with a renovation of Midtown's Breslin Hotel.

Thompson LES Almost Open?

Jebb of the East Village Podcast always thinks of HotelChatter as he trolls the East Side hotels and so to show our appreciation, we are going to email him some of our most treasured scratch n' sniff stickers.

This time, he's uploaded a pic of the long-awaited Thompson LES. Look how it's grown! Remember when it used to look like this?

The website for the hotel says Spring 2008. Another nebulous opening date from Thompson. We're guessing sometime in May.
