Hotel News Briefs :: SLS at Beverly Hills Delayed Until October 28th

August 6, 2008 at 5:04 PM | 0 Comments

There's tons of hotel news flying around this week and we don't have time to give each and every story the love and attention it may deserve, so you will have to settle for some news briefs.

· SLS at Beverly Hills Delayed Again: The website now says October 28th. Grr...

· Calling Cards for Kids? : One parent was delighted to see that the Park Lane Marriott in London handed out "business cards" to their child-guests so they have the hotel's information on them in case they get lost. Awww....

· Hotel Indigo Finds Groovy Roots in California: The first Hotel Indigo for the Golden State will open in the LA suburb of Ontario. Guess what else is in Ontario? Aloft!

· Another Rooftop Bar for Manhattan: NewYorkology checks out The Roosevelt New York's Mad46 rooftop bar. Fun fact: The Roosevelt was mentioned in Mad Men, Season 1. Yes, we're obsessed.

· Where to Find Models in SoBe?: At the Gansevoort Hotel of course! The hotel is hosting a model search at the Plunge Bar tomorrow, August 7th.

Hotel News Briefs: Simon Van Kempen Has a Family Website

April 9, 2008 at 9:00 AM | 3 Comments

· Everyone's favorite househubby/hotelier Simon Van Kempen and his wife Alex McCord have a family website. At first we thought this wasn't real but we actually think it's legit now. Poorly designed but legit nonetheless. Here a bio Simon wrote for himself. Note to users: Skip the bios of their young sons. You will feel guilty for having even clicked on those pages.

· The old Adams Mark hotel in Denver officially changes into a Sheraton.

· The Handlery Hotel charges $10 a day in the tech-centric city of San Francisco. Local hotel chains like Personality Hotels and JDV Hotels, along with Kimpton don't charge for WiFi.

· The Luxor showed some promise earlier this year of actually being a cool place to stay with the LAX nightclub, the CatHouse bordello lounge and the Company restaurant with actual Top Chefs in the kitchen. However, Eater LA reports the chefs at Company have all left. CatHouse also shut down in February for structural damage. Yikes.

· Hotel Indigo expands the brand with a location in Wilmington, No. Carolina which will also be the official accommodations for the nearby convention center. But it will still retain its boutique-y feel with only 160 rooms.
