Criss Angel Survives Hotel Implosion, Thanks to the Magic of Television
This here is a video from a person in the crowd who attended the implosion. (Note: Watch it without sound as the people cheering Criss on are annoying! Also start watching at about the 3:30 mark.)
So Criss Angel successfully escaped from his iron restraints inside the old Spyglass Hotel in Clearwater, FL just seconds before the hotel imploded. His stunt was actually shown live on A&E TV last night. But was it really live?

Criss Angel To Perform In Florida Hotel Implosion on July 30th

Attention-loving magician Criss Angel will perform his latest stunt on Wednesday, July 30th in a hotel in Clearwater, Fla. just moments before the hotel is to be imploded.
Angel and the A&E crew from his show "Mindfreak" heard the old Spyglass Hotel was going to be demolished and decided the implosion would make a perfect setting for a death-defying stunt. Here is how it's all supposedly going to go down:
The plan is for him to be on about a fifth- or sixth-floor balcony, most likely chained to the outside for dramatic appeal. Then somehow he'll free himself, make it up to the roof, and be whisked away just in time for the building to implode.
250 lucky (?) guests will have front-row seats to the act and two large projection screens will be set up to show it to everyone else. If you aren't going to be in Clearwater for the implosion stunt, you can always see Criss at the Luxor in Las Vegas where his new show will start on September 1.

PM Linkage: Did You Miss This?
We must be operating on Bahamian-time still so our last post of the day will be an old-school, bland, photoless, colorless link dump. Consider it our New Yorker-style post for the day. Enjoy.

Frontier Implosion Video Is Romantic
Wow, HotelChatter member trewil was right, the The New Frontier implosion was freakin' romantic. The structure was taken to the ground at 2:30 AM this morning, Pacific time, and though this video is 3 minutes long, it took less than ten seconds for the building to actually come down.
From the looks of things, if you had a Tower Suite at Wynn Las Vegas last night, on the far side of the hotel, you may have had a killer view of this implosion. Now it is time to get ready for the $5 billion mixed-use project modeled after New York's legendary Plaza Hotel -- Vegas style.
Thanks to the Strip Podcast Guys who were on scene and set this video to a remix of "Time To Say Goodbye".

Piece of AC History Coming Down Tonight
The Sands Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City will be no more after tonight. The former hang out of the Rat Pack will be imploded at 9:30pm.
Typical of Atlantic City's ballyhoo style, the 18-second sequence of explosions will climax an evening of fireworks and other festivities that city officials hope will lure tourists.
In its place, Las Vegas company Pinnacle Entertainment will build a $1.5 billion "megacasino" resort to open by 2012.
Meanwhile, the Sands wasn't all that old to begin with. It originally opened in 1980 as the Brighton Hotel before its name change took place. When Sinatra and his rat pack buddies were in town performing at the hotel's Copa Room, this is the only place they would stay. We even met Sinatra's former waiter.
While we're sad to see a former Sinatra hang-out demolished, we think this is the start of good things to come for Atlantic City which has the opportunity to become the Vegas of the East.
