We declared the iPad as 2010's must-have amenity. And it looks like the race for 2011's hottest hotel amenity is already on with in-room gas masks. But the Hard Rock San Diego will lend out new free Gibson guitars in hopes of cinching the '11 title.

The Hard Rock's new amenity—called Check In, Rock Out—will start rocking out at the hotel on February 3. To celebrate, former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde will roll up into the hotel on the day the axes will drop.

Move Over Guitar Hero: Chicago Hotels Offer Guests The Real Thing

September 24, 2009 at 9:33 AM | by | Comments (0)

Rockers will throw up some hand horns for two Chicago hotels' rock-star perks. Hotel Sax and the Hard Rock Hotel offer programs and packages that lend out guitars to guests for rocking out.

Taking inspiration from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea—who infamously played bass nekkid, save for a sock covering his naughty bits—Hotel Sax's "Celebrity Rider" package comes with an acoustic guitar and tube socks. We love it.

The package also offers a two-night stay in a one-bedroom suite, which includes beverages by Heineken and a juice bar with a smoothie tender. Plus, you'll get the VIP treatment in the hotel lobby's Crimson Lounge, where celebs like to party when they are in town.

HotelChatter Contest: Who Is Going To Nashville, With a Tan?

July 27, 2009 at 5:25 PM | by | Comments (0)

HotelChatter's Win a Trip to Nashville contest ended last last week and since then our panel of judges has been busy grading entries. Today we are happy to report that we have a winner. Twenty-nine year-old Mike Nielsen of Los Angeles, Calif. and a guest of his choosing will be jetting off to Nashville courtesy of Southwest Airlines and staying at the The Hotel Preston for two nights. Here is Mike's winning entry:

I think, especially if you're staying in Nashville, that a fun, simple room amenity would be an:

ACOUSTIC GUITAR

That would be so much fun! It seems to make sense, and would be very original and entertaining for guests!

Killer idea Mike. We are now working with Hotel Preston to figure out the best, most practical way for the hotel to execute this idea in one form or another. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, Mike and guest are off to Nashville. Huge thanks to Southwest and The Hotel Preston for helping us pull off this contest. And of course, thanks to all of you who entered your dream amenity suggestions. May hotels and hoteliers soon make your amenity dreams come true!
