Cute, Hotel-Inspired Etsy Finds For The Holidays

November 30, 2011 at 12:15 PM | by | Comment (1)

Black Friday has officially come and gone, and though we hate buying into all the commercial hype, we've got to admit—we're starting to feel the clock ticking. Tomorrow is December 1, and before we know it, Christmas will be here! Here to help is HotelChatter's mini gift guide, featuring all hotel-inspired Etsy finds. Browse away, and if you come up with other hotel-related trinkets to add to the list, do let us know!

$9 While not exactly the most flattering piece of jewelry ever made, this is certainly a creative take on the hotel keycard. The designer takes recycled credit, gift and hotel keycards, cuts them into shapes, and then sands the edges to smooth them down. The above pair measures 4 inches long. The Do Not Disturb Collection That Puts Ours to Shame

January 28, 2010 at 4:10 PM | by | Comments (0)

So we were very proud of our Do Not Disturb photo gallery that we launched the other month which picked out some of the most interesting and unique DND signs we had seen to date. Yes, we discriminated slightly. These had to be creative, eye-catching or tongue-in-cheek signs. We've been adding to them slowly but no matter how many we add, we doubt we will ever catch up to this excellent gallery created by Edoardo Flores in Italy.

Edoardo has been collecting DND signs for years and he tells us that he now has over 6,000 DND signs from all over the world. Don't believe it? Go here for just one page of his DND signs.

What we love about this gallery is, of course, the sheer number of signs to browse through. But we also love that it's a bit of trip down memory lane as we can see how hotel chains have changed their signs and logos through the years. (For a good collection of the usual chain suspects, go here.)

We here at HotelChatter have been keeping a running list on the Hotel Swag offered up by some of your favorite big-box and independent hotels alike. Some of these hotel retail products are unforgivable (a wall-mounted hair dryer from the Radisson). Some are quirky but cute (the Four Points old-timey apple peeler) and some are just downright strange (the ceramic hen from Sofitel.)

Yet there are some legit gifts that you can purchase from hotels. We rifled through the racks of hotel swag (online of course) to bring you the Five Best Gifts For Hotel Geeks.

June 24, 2008 at 2:05 PM | by | Comments (2)

Speaking of hotel geeks, we wonder if Heather Mills' new boytoy has ever played this game, Hotel Giant.

For anyone who's ever wanted to enter the hospitality industry but is like, still under age, Hotel Giant enables you to be your own hotelier. Kinda like Aloft was in Second Life but more hard core. Now Hotel Giant is coming out with a second edition and it's available on Nintendo DS. From Gamezplay:

Enter the challenging tourism industry and test your skills by building, designing and managing the luxurious hotels in the world! As guests go about their lives, follow their behaviour, moods, activities, and find out exactly what they like and dislike about your hospitality.
