Did we mention spring was here? Well, along with spring comes a rather important annual event for fun-loving LGBT travelers around the world: pride season!
If you've already got plans to try out the new gay-themed Out NYC in Manhattan, or be shepherded around Miami by the Lords South Beach's specially-themed iPhone app, fair enough. But one other thing you might want to keep in mind: 140 Hilton Hotels are offering a "Stay Hilton. Go Out" package for LGBT travelers celebrating pride, which includes, among other nifty perks, free Wifi.

Starwood Tempts Prospective SPG Members With Free Chocolate
As we explained last month, Starwood rolled out a bunch of new perks for its dedicated SPGers, and the changes took effect on March 1.
On the sidelines, if you've checked into a Starwood property over the past few weeks, you will have received a token of the brand's appreciation burning desire to make you, too, a member of the SPG ambassadors program. At Aloft, for example, all guests are receiving little purple foil-wrapped chocolate bars. Bearing the slogan, "Being an SPG member has never been sweeter," the yummy snack directs you to Starwood's website to learn more about the program.
Knowing how much of a weakness everyone (including us) has for chocolate, we're guessing they've been successful in, at the least, catching people's attention.

W Downtown Warms Up New Yorkers The Only Way It Knows How: Free Hot Chocolate
New York most definitely was getting too cold for us yesterday, when we found ourselves strolling through lower Manhattan, near the 9/11 memorial. So cold, in fact, that we made an impulse decision to go hide out in the W Downtown for a few minutes, seeing as the crowds on a Wednesday afternoon were minimal.
The hotel's relative emptiness also worked in our favor when we got up to the fifth-floor Living Room bar and noticed, to our sheer delight, the bar was offering free cups of hot chocolate. And not, like, a one-cup-per-person deal. It was self-serve. And it was gooood!
Tucked in a corner at one end of the bar was a small thermal dispenser, surrounded by candles, as well as a small placard that read: "Yummy hot chocolate! Enjoy!" So we did.

The Chatwal has really loosened up over the past year. Despite its super-serious introduction to the world back in 2009, it has lately been keeping things simple with candy cigarettes and guess-the-number-of-balls contests.
We were definitely intrigued by The Chatwal's latest gimmick: free cups of Lambs Club coffee were given out on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, to passersby on 44th St. In the spirit of "giving," these hotel coffee fairies were suited up with Lambs Club-branded canisters strapped to their backs, and a twinkle in their eyes. No word yet on whether this will be a regular thing or not.

Turkey Leftovers and Free Hot Chocolate In New York This Weekend
The turkey is dead! Long live the turkey sandwich!
Sure, Thanksgiving only lasts for a day; but that doesn't mean we can't keep stuffing our faces with turkey all weekend long! Appropriately, the food-loving Loews Hotels are planning a week-long turkey sandwich menu addition for all of their properties—starting right now!
Through Sunday evening, each hotel across the country will be serving up a local spin on the traditional leftover turkey meat sandwich. From turkey sushi rolls at Loews Lake Las Vegas to Loews Miami Beach's Cuban-style sandwich, the creations will be diverse and delicious.
In New York's Loews Regency, keep an eye out for the chef's trio of sliders, served on different artisan breads with gravy and stone-ground mustard-cranberry mayonnaise. Yum!

Why, Hello, Free Delicious Brownie
Back in July, we remember hearing something about a Mister Softee truck pulling up outside the Distrikt Hotel and supplying over-heated guests with some free ice cream. Though wildly successful, a Distrikt employee had explained this was "not a normal thing" and no other such events were planned for the near future.
Until yesterday! Anyone lucky enough to be walking down W 40th St between Eighth and Ninth Avenues between the hours of 4pm and 5pm were rewarded with a free item (and drink!) from Sweetery NYC.
The graphic dessert truck was parked directly outside the hotel's front door—to the delight of guests and staff members alike—and didn't really seem to discriminate between hotel peeps and non-affiliated passersby. "Yep, it's totally free," one friendly concierge noted, at which point we smiled widely and raced over to claim our mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

When was the last time a hotel gave you a cupcake? If you're a New Yorker and answered "never," then today's your lucky day! Over on 7th Avenue, across from MSG, a well-stocked Cupcake Stop truck will be parked in front of Affinia Manhattan, giving out free cupcakes to anyone who wanders by.
The occasion? This month marks the final unveiling of Affinia's $25 million renovation, as we documented here—and a renovation is as good a reason as any to stuff your face with cupcakes. Funny, The Roosevelt is also undergoing some restoration work, yet we haven't heard any mention of cupcakes there. Now, we're trying not to pick favorites, but these free baked goods might end up tipping the scales!

Hotel brand and booking service Mr and Mrs Smith did what all the cool kids are doing these days and made a hotel-booking app. But the company's free Plan and Play app will also encourage travelers to be bad.
Okay, we aren't talking Charlie Sheen crazy-bad here, but it does encourage naughty behavior with someone. It comes with a Truth or Dare function, where you can shake your iPhone to play a risque round. The app also has an excuses generator that offers an email template that you can edit and then send off to your boss so you can go play hooky with your date.

Grace Hotels has come up with a good way for you to remember to bring the toothpaste on your trip. The hotel group launched a new app that is a packing check list and task reminder.
Appropriately dubbed Saving Grace, the app offers preset lists for various trip types, including winter, summer, activity holiday or short break. It also breaks it down with specific lists for surfing, cycling, golfing, fishing and camping.

Every time we think Snuggies have gone the way of mom jeans, they seem to pop up again. Now, they are being worn at the Hotel Erwin. But this time there's a good reason for donning the blanket with sleeves: Locals who come to the hotel's High Rooftop Lounge in a Snuggie will get a free drink.
Wearing a Snuggie outside of your home is a horrible form of public humiliation, but it just might be worth it for free alcohol. It's part of the Venice Beach hotel's Snuggie Snuggle Fest. June nights are usually chilly in Los Angeles, so the hotel's hoping that being wrapped up in a Snuggie will make you brave the cold and hang in the open-air rooftop bar.

Already known for their lobby happy hours, Kimpton Hotels are further stepping up their booze game with a new Wines That Care program. The new selections, which will be served up in all 51 Kimptons, have been picked because the vineyards involved are using socially or environmentally conscious practices. Which is awesome, because we now have an extra excuse to enjoy their fine, free booze with a clear conscience.
Among the brands now on offer are French Rabbit, biodynamic wine which comes in Tetra Pak to reduce packaging weight and cost, Citra Wines, an Italian brand that's donating calling cards to soldiers serving overseas, and Banrock Station, the Australian vineyard that donates a portion of sales to preserving wetlands worldwide.

Drink Up At Hotel Adagio's Free Cocktail Classes
You know that old proverb that says, "Give a man a drink and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to mix drinks and you feed him for a lifetime?" Okay, we're taking some liberties there, but drinks, fish, it's all the same. If you want to feed yourself drinks for a lifetime, you can start by taking free mixology classes through the Hotel Adagio's Cocktail College program in Bar Adagio.
Not only does the Union Square hotel open the free monthly cocktail classes to guests, but the public can enroll, too. Cocktail College students get schooled by mixologists, brand ambassadors and Bar Adagio's own bartenders on how to shake up new and classic libations as well as how make bitters, infusions and edible garnishes.
