Funny how these hotel trends come and go. Just yesterday, we were philosophizing about the pluses and minuses of booking a hotel room with bunk beds, and then today comes an announcement from the guys at Out NYC about their new European hostel-inspiredSleep Share rooms. Can you guess what's inside the rooms? Bunk beds.
As of this week, the hotel has now made these rooms available as an alternative to the regular Deluxe, Deluxe Double and suite options. If you remember, one of the hotel's basic credos is for guests to stay, play, eat and chill. And there's no better way to accomplish that than a hostel-style shared room full of (hopefully, friendly) strangers.
The other obvious incentive, is, of course, the price.
There's yet another new way to earn rewards and discounts for all your travel adventures, but instead of marrying yourself off to one hotel brand or airline, you can remain polygamous with your jetsetting partners thanks to the FoundersCard.
The card bills itself as a "first-of-its-kind membership community for entrepreneurs and innovators" and gives members access to frequent networking events held throughout the year.
But the card's real worth can be found in its worldwide travel discounts like elite status on Virgin American with 10-13 percent off fights, fast track to elite status at American Airlines, 20 percent off driving rates at Zipcar, up to 60 percent off at Mandarin Oriental Hotels, up to 75 percent off at Mandarin Oriental Hotels, and up to 50 percent off at Standard Hotels.
The FoundersCard also offers members discounts for other hotel brands like Morgans, Viceroy, Park Hyatt and Ritz-Carlton as well as "lifestyle" businesses like Crunch Fitness, Stub Hub, Wine Library and John Varvatos.
2012 is shaping up to be a huge year for London travel: there's the matter of a certain sporting event coming to town, and from June 2nd-5th, the city of perpetually grey skies will mark 60-years of Queen Elizabeth the II's rule during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The elaborate celebration fit for, well, a Queen, is set to include a pageant on the Thames River, the lighting of beacons 'round the world, special exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum, and a variety of neighborhood luncheons thrown by locals.

Stranded passengers at JFK Airport. Avoid sleeping at the airport with these NYC hotel discounts.
With thousands of travelers stranded in NYC, hotel rooms are filling up—and others are standing empty with US-bound travelers stuck on the other side of the world. To help the folks stuck here, NYC & Company, the city's tourism organization, announced this afternoon that it had helped to extend discounts at 37 hotels in New York for people affected by the Volcanic Ash travel delays.
The hotels offering the 15% discount are listed on the nycgo website, and after the jump. NYC & Co. recommends calling properties directly to ask for the rate. The promo code, unless otherwise noted in the list, is VOLCANO.
Hot on the heels of La Quinta's "Hot for Teacher" promotion we recently reported on comes another deal for exclusively for those grooming our future's leaders. Along with reading, writing, and arithmetic, add "rollback"—in prices, that is—to the list of Rs.
The JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek is jumping on the teacher appreciation bandwagon, hoping to attract a slew of recess-seeking educators to its Rocky Mountain-located digs. Through the end of this year, they're offering all teachers and administrators 50 percent off their nightly room rate, with prices starting at $99 on weekends and $149 for weekdays. We would've thought those prices would be reversed, but it works out nicely for three-day weekends and full-time school employees.
What does Palm Desert's expansive La Quinta Resort have in common with rock band Van Halen? Absolutely nothing, save for three magic words: "Hot for Teacher." No, you won't hear the song blasting from a cabana upon arrival, but if you are a teacher, you can enjoy a well-deserved discount off your next stay.
The Hot for Teacher package, which runs through September 31st, offers teachers a Resort Casita at the rate of $100 per night, with a $50 dining credit and without the standard $27 resort fee. Booking online is easy and straightforward: There is a checked "Only For Teachers" box on the reservation page, and, on the next page, a convenient list of accommodations that fall into the discounted "Teachers Appreciation" category. Lest you try to cheat this promotion, know that you will need to show a valid teacher's ID upon check-in in order to take advantage of the deal.
