Starwood Offers Up to 50% Off Regular Rates—But You Have to Book Soon
Put this on your weekend “to do” list: think about where you might like to spend the holidays or a winter getaway. If your answer is a Starwood property, and you’re ready to charge what will be a non-refundable rate now, you could save yourself some serious holiday cocktail cash. Until November 10—next Tuesday—you can score up to 50% off the regular rates at a slew of Starwood properties. And while there are blackout dates, there are still some hotels with availability for the holidays. Even better, when you use one of the Starwood property’s online booking pages for this promotion, it will tell you which holidays are still available under the deal at most hotels, as well as which dates are already sold out.
At the new W Boston, for example, the sale rate of $189 a night is still available for Thanksgiving (Nov 22-29), and between December 18–30. (New Year’s Eve is sold out). At Aloft Lexington, the rate is as cheap as $79 a night, and again, there’s availability for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Go East! in Europe For Good Deals And Great Culture

It's hard to believe that one of our favorite parts of the world, Eastern Europe, has only been easy to travel to for the last twenty years – that's how long it is since the Berlin Wall fell, and that's also the reason why Marriott is celebrating with the Marriott's Go East! Package, with specials in five major eastern European cities. We like these deals because they're not just a bed and some food – they also feature some little touches to help you get to know the Cold War historical sides of the cities.
In the city where it all happened, you can stay at the Berlin Marriott Hotel with a Go East! package for €199 ($290) including a double room, breakfast, the Berlin Welcome Card and tickets to the very cool Berlin Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie. At the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel in Romania (pictured), the deal starts at 660 Lei ($226) and gets you a double room, breakfast, 20% off any other food and drinks during your stay, and two tickets to visit the city's Parliament Palace.

Stay at the Buckingham Hotel's Penthouse For a Song

If you’ve dreamed of living in a New York penthouse but only ever get as far as flipping through the ads in the Times real estate section, you might now be closer to living your dream thanks to the Buckingham Hotel. Sitting atop the small boutique hotel near Carnegie Hall is The Martinelli Penthouse, which was once home to opera singer Giovanni Martinelli when he was performing at the Met, and also used by musical star Bobby Van as a dance studio.
Now, the two-bedroom duplex with a totally awesome terrace is available for meetings, private parties, and of course as hotel accommodations for cashed-up guests. We know, we know, you’re thinking: why are you telling me this? I could never afford something so luxurious. That’s what we thought—but then we learned that the Buckingham has slashed the regular rate for the penthouse by 50%.

Here's Your Chance to Stay at the Ritz Paris For Slightly Less Than Normal

It used to be something of a tradition for Londoners to hop on the Eurostar for a quicky weekend in Paris – especially when it came to winter romance. But it obviously isn’t going so well at the moment, thanks to the insanely strong euro: Eurostar is currently bombarding London with ads, and Parisian hotels seeing to be flinging out special offers by the day.
Anyway, if you can bear the dreadful exchange rate, there are deals to be had. This week the Leading Hotels of the World group have jumped on the bandwagon, offering up to 30% off – which, when you’re talking hotels like the Ritz or the Crillon, is a pretty big deal.
With the Leading in Paris offer, starting rates are down to €590 at the Hotel Le Bristol, €550 at the Ritz, €530 at the Hotel de Crillon and €589 at the Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière. Slightly cheaper are the Hotel Lancaster from €370, or the Hotel Raphael from €365 (the Raphael will also chuck in breakfast and a special “welcome gift).

How Special is the Special Winter Offer From Concorde Hotels?
Well, hello Paris. And Berlin. And Prague. And even Marbella. Christmas shopping on the Continent is looking pretty promising this year. The latest lot to offer special winter deals are the folk at Concorde Hotels. But is it worth it?
The Winter Offer which starts 1 November and ends March 31 promises bed, breakfast and a “surprise gift” if you stay two nights or more. And the rates sound pretty good – Prague from €80 ($118/£72), Berlin from €136 and Paris from €148.
Except we just looked up rezzie rates for a couple of properties, and looks like you can do better by simply paying up front, if all you want is a room with no added extras.

The Mandarin Oriental's 'Festive Breaks' May Not Be So Festive After All

When planning our next hotel stay, a night at a Mandarin Oriental Hotel is never even within our realm of possibilities as the luxury hotels are usually far out of our price range. But if we suddenly manage to receive a Christmas gift of cash in the next month or so, we could consider a night at MO, thanks to their new Festive Breaks offer.
From November 12 to December 30 guests who book two nights in a Mandarin Oriental will get a hotel credit of up to $100 per stay ($200 if you book a suite.) The credits cannot be used towards the room but you can use them at the spa or the hotel restaurants.
This sounds generous of Mandarin Oriental but it's actually quite frustrating.

Puntacana Celebrates 40th Anniversary With A Spruce-Up

We haven't quite reached our 40th birthday yet, but when we do, a bit of a renovation will probably be just what we need. That was the same thought the Puntacana Resort and Club in the Dominican Republic had. They're celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and have been having some major refurbishments done, which are due to be all tidied up by the end of this week.
The Puntacana Hotel has spruced up all of its 186 rooms. There are now flat screen TVs throughout, new paint and bedding, and it's looking nice and fresh.
Refurbished doesn't mean more expensive: they've still got some good deals going. If you book online at their website, you can pay from $96 for the "new" rooms including breakfast. There seem to be plenty of rooms available at the $96 rate, right through until December 18.

Paris, The City, Is Working Hard for Our Money

Oh look, something’s trying to tell us to go to Paris. Yesterday we had the Hotel Bel Ami and the Edouard 7 offering us money off and fixed dollar rates to come on over; today it’s the turn of the recently renovated, nifty-looking Hotel Jules.
Stay one or two nights from now until December 29, and they’ll not only knock 20% off the price – making rooms start from €160 ($237/£145) weekends and €172 ($254/£156) on weekdays - but throw in a buffet breakfast for free. Want to stay an extra night? They’ll give it you for €130 ($192/£118) on a weekend, or €144 ($213/£130) on a weekday. Just look for the SMART rate on the list of special offers on the website.
VAT is included, but a city tax of a measly €1 per person is not. You know what that is? It’s a call on behalf of your loved ones to do your Christmas shopping en France. Allons-y!

French Hotels Claim They'll Cure Your 'Winter Blahs'

Hotel Bel-Ami in Paris.
A "cure for the winter blahs" - now that’s some claim for a hotel group to be making. Bessé Signature Hotels, which owns a ménage a trois of hotels in France, is promising to wipe away yours with special rates.
Stay at the Domaine de la Bretesche in Brittany, and you’ll save 35% with the Winter Promotion rate – rooms start at €190 ($282/£172) per night instead of the normal €295, until March 22, 2010. Not bad – although, having been to Brittany in the winter, we can vouch for there not being a whole lot of stuff to do. But the hotel looks pretty lovely – like a modern(ish) castle (it’s based on a 15th-century chateau) with whitewashed beams and striped fabrics in the rooms, and there’s a spa, too, so by March, it should be a pretty good bet.

Bahamas Hotels Bribe You To Come In Winter With Special Deals

A bunch of resorts in the Bahamas have got together to offer a promotion for the winter season – not that we need too much persuasion to escape somewhere warmer at that time of year, anyway.
At a dozen different hotels across the islands – including the Treasure Cay Resort, the Cape Eleuthera Resort, Pelican Bay at Lucaya and Comfort Suites Paradise Island - there are two parts to the deal. First up, if you book three nights you'll get the fourth night free. Second, if you use the resort packages to book an air-inclusive vacation, they'll give you some discounts - $100 off if you spend between $1,000 and $1,999, a $200 discount if you spend between $2,000 and $2,499, and $300 off for those whose total is over $2,500.
Don't wait until winter really sets in to book, though – these specials are only available for bookings made by November 20, and for travel through to February 12, 2010. You need to book through the Bahamas portal and for the second part of the deal you'll need codes FALL100, FALL200 or FALL300. We're thinking very seriously about our escape plan for winter, and you should be too.

JDV Hotels Say, 'C'mon, Give Us a Smile,' With Third Night Free Promo

JDV's Hotel Erwin on Venice Beach
Hotels these days seem to be enthusiastic about "Third Night Free" promotions, and we're not complaining. In addition to last week's reportage on the Rosewood Mayakobá's customer-friendly offer, our latest helping of happiness comes from the news that the Joie de Vivre group's "Joy of Vivre" campaign includes a free third night with promotion code "JOIE" when you book in advance. The deal is good for JDV's 35 properties through June 15th of next year, and as a head's up, you'll have to make the reservation by May 31, 2010.
After what has been an inarguably difficult year for many, and with possible S.A.D. looming around the corner with the onset of grey weather (even in normally sunny California), the Vivre campaign is meant to inject a little more lightheartedness into the public's general attitude. They're well aware that the best way to extract said joy is to offer guests extras and the promise of prize winnings, which is how they're encouraging prospective customers to "explore living joyfully, happily, and exuberantly." This would border on being annoyingly twee if there weren't concrete bonuses to be had, which there are.

Get $99 Rooms Down Under as Summer Approaches
Where: Australia

While northern hemisphere hotels are busy promoting their winter sales, Down Under hotels are advertising summer specials, and there's a particularly good one on offer from the Urban group of hotels, represented in the three major east coast cities.
The three places - Urban St Leonard's in Sydney, Urban St Kilda in Melbourne and the Urban Brisbane - have got together to organize a half-price summer sale. The deal is that if you make your booking this week (before Saturday, October 31), you can get your room for A$99 ($91) a night instead of the usual average of A$199 ($180). The sad thing is that the Aussie dollar is pretty strong right now, so if you're booking in another currency the deal isn't anywhere near as good as it might have been a few months ago.
The summer deal is good for stays between December 18 and January 18, 2010 in Sydney and Melbourne, while in Brisbane, apparently summer lasts a lot longer – the deal is valid for stays between December 18 and February 14 next year. Just look for the "Hotel Urban turns up the heat" prices when you book online – we saw plenty of $99 rooms left.
