Can't Make it to Brazil for the World Cup? These Miami Hotels Think They're The Next Best Thing

May 19, 2014 at 10:55 AM | by | Comments (2)

The 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 12 and while the extreme football fans will head to Brazil to watch the matches, the majority of fans will settle for catching a couple of games in their local pub or bar. (That's what we plan on doing.) But these Miami-area hotels want you to watch the matches with them instead. Miami--it's kinda like Brazil!

The new b2 miami downtown has put together a b2 is for Brazil! package that gives 25 percent off the best available rate, 15 percent off food and drinks at Biscayne Tavern, the hotel's gastropub concept from Jeffrey Chodorow of China Grill Management; two signature cocktails at the tavern and a World Cup special edition souvenir. The package is available to book online from June 1 to June 15 with rates starting at just $99 a night. (Gotta love Miami in the off season.) Use promo code Brazil to book.

In Miami Beach proper, The W South Beach is offering a Timeout Getaway which includes a two-night stay; an in-room “Create-Your-Own Caipirinha Kit” amenity; special Brazilian themed dishes at the W's The Dutch restaurant; two signature cocktails daily, inspired by the countries of the competing teams in The World Cup and the ability to watch World Cup games from the guest rooms, the Living room and in select poolside private cabanas (those cost extra.) The packages starts at $489 a night and is available from June 12-July 13. Call 1.877.822.0000 to book but you must have seven days advance notice.

Further north in Ft. Lauderdale, the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa has created the "Kick It, Kick Back and Relax” deal that gives guests 20 percent off lowest available rates if you book three nights or more. The hotel will be showing the games on a flat-screen TV at their beachfront bar. Rates start at $207 a night, based on double occupancy. Book by June 5 for travel from June 2 to July 31. Go here to book and use promo code ADR.

Hotel Week to Hit Boston on February 16th

January 15, 2014 at 11:27 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sad that New York Hotel Week is over? Don't be too sad! Hotel Week Boston is coming up!

From February 16 - 23, several Boston hotels are offering major discounts on their rooms, averaging about 25-30 percent off, making it a good deal for those willing to brave the cold in Beantown or for Bostonians who want to escape their own digs. Conveniently, the hotel week happens the same time as the school vacation week.

A list of the participating hotels can be found on Facebook including several of the city's top luxury hotels like the Ritz-Carlton (25 percent off bed and breakfast page for a deluxe suite); The Four Seasons (25 percent off their best available rate); The Liberty Hotel (30 percent off of the best available rate and overnight valet parking) and the W Boston (30 percent discount off of the best available rate and in-room wifi.) Another deal we like is at The Charles Hotel where rooms cost $199 a night and include ice skating passes at the hotel's rink, free parking and daily breakfast.

During hotel week, guests can also get in on some other deals around Boston, including a two-for-one offer from the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston and the Franklin Park Zoo, and 20% off tickets to Jose Mateo Ballet Company’s winter show, "Unbridled." Now, how do you like them apples?

New Year's Resolution: We Promise to Relearn the Definition of a Deal

January 3, 2014 at 3:36 PM | by | Comments (2)

Last month, we published a list of early-season ski deals to help you save some cash when taking a trip this winter. As you might have noticed, although many of the deals we featured hooked you up with free lift tickets (which is a huge help), a lot of them were closer to "promotions" than "deals."

For example, the $530 per person, per night girls' getaway at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek may provide good value given all you get, but it is far from a "deal," an offer meant to allow those who normally couldn't financially partake to participate.

In other words, $530 a night is still a lot of money. And there were other promotions that were in the same boat, such as the offer from Hyatt Mountain Collection that if you book a three-night stay at all three properties in the collection, you will receive a complimentary EPIC ski pass for the 2014/2015 winter.

January 2, 2014 at 6:24 PM | by | Comment (1)

Uh-oh. Snowpacalypse is happening again for the East Coast. Weather reports are predicting up to 18 inches of snow and freezing temperatures. Already, 2,000 flights have been cancelled at Boston's Logan Airport and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has already declared a State of Emergency. Meanwhile, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has closed three major New York highways from midnight tonight until 5am Friday morning.

But there is a silver lining here. Hotel discounts! In Boston, The Charles Hotel in Cambridge has a special rate for travelers of $159/night. Go here to book. In NYC, Hotel Belleclaire is offering rates of $129. Go here to book.

Coincidentally in NYC, Hotel Week begins tomorrow and runs through January 12th, giving guests seriously low rates at hip hotels. Here are few we like:

The Ace Hotel: $200 a night
The Jade Hotel: $200 a night
Gem Hotel Soho: $100 a night
Affinia Manhattan: $100 a night

UPDATE 1.3.14: A few more hotels have offered up special rates this week.

Hotel BPM in Brooklyn now has rates for just $89 (usually $169.) Go here to book.

Hotel Pennsylvania across from Penn Station has special rates for stranded travelers starting at $90 along with free WiFi. Go here to book.

Anyone stuck on the East Coast and in need of a hotel room? Let us know. Similarly, if you're a hotel with special stranded traveler rates, tell us!

Kimpton's Last-Minute Deals Really Are Deal-Worthy

December 5, 2013 at 1:49 PM | by | Comments (2)

Just the other week, we were in Miami looking for a seriously last-minute hotel deal. We're talking 2pm the day of. Our usual go-to site for last-minute bookings, HotelTonight, didn't really have any good options. See, we like deals but we also like cool hotels so finding that perfect combination of affordable-ish and hip can sometimes be difficult.

So we turned to the giant search engine that is Expedia and found a room at Kimpton's Surfcomber Hotel on Collins Avenue for $239 a night. Not bad but we had to cross-check that with what the Surfcomber's own site was showing. And to our surprise, we stumbled upon Kimpton's Last Minute Deals.

Hold Up, Orange Wednesday is Now Happening at Howard Johnsons

December 3, 2013 at 8:53 AM | by | Comments (0)

If you thought the cray cray deal-hunting was over when Cyber Monday ended, think again. Aside from a couple hotels in our Ultimate Guide extending their offers for a few more days, Howard Johnson is once again hosting Orange Wednesday on December 4th giving guests 50 percent off room rates for an up to three-night stay.

You can check out the participating HoJos in the U.S. and Canada on the website now but you do have to book between 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM EST on December 4th. And you can't book through the website. You have to call the hotel directly and request to book the Orange Wednesday rate. The deal is also limited to the first three travelers to call for each hotel so time really is of the essence on Orange Wednesday.

Here's some more fine print: Stays must be completed in the first three months of the reservation being made. Each guest can only book one reservation for up to three consecutive nights at the 50 percent off discount during the promotion period. Blackout dates apply.

If you're reading this and Orange Wednesday has already passed you by, Howard Johnson is still offering 20 percent off the room rates when guests book three consecutive nights from now until December 31st. Orange Wednesday may not be the new Cyber Monday but it's still pretty nice.
