Cute, or Creepy? Grosvenor House Builds A Nursery For Kate Middleton's Baby

Places like The Goring, The Stafford and Park Plaza Hotels were all quick to join in the royal wedding mania that took place two summers ago, but here's one hotel that seems to be starting a new trend: royal baby mania.

London's Grosvenor House has chosen to re-decorate one of its Premium Park suites in anticipation of Kate Middleton and Prince William's firstborn. Not that, like, the baby is actually planning to stay there (at this moment, it can't even digest its own food, so we don't see how it could be making hotel reservations…), but, you know, just in case.

"Suite Dreams" is a fully-equipped nursery, with a luxurious four-poster crib, hand-painted furniture, Beatrix Potter-inspired designs, and a children's play area with a London-themed toy cupboard.

The whole thing is pretty impressive, actually, though no surprise there, as Daily Mail tells us the suite was actually designed by Dragons of Walton Street, a studio that's created nurseries for the Royal Family in the past.

Introducing Ollie, Fairmont's Toiletry Mascot for Kids

July 11, 2012 at 1:27 PM | by | Comments (0)

Summer's here and school's out which means your summer travel plans may involve schlepping the little ones along with you. Same goes for new parents who aren't quite ready to compromise their jetsetting lifestyles. While it definitely requires more planning and more organization, a dream vacation can still be had. All this week, we'll be looking at a few hotels that are making it not just fun but easier for families to have a summer trip to remember.

Fairmont Hotels have long been a family favorite, thanks to the plentiful Kids Clubs activities at their hotels but this summer special attention is being paid to attention to the kiddies up in the guestrooms.

Fairmont has unveiled a new ambassador, Ollie, for their youngest hotel guests at their North American properties. Ollie's main job is to provide babies and tots with complimentary amenity kits that include an Ollie the Otter stuffed animal, no-tears hair wash, cleansing soap, toothbrush & paste, bubble bath and gentle lotion. If you're staying at a Fairmont this summer, then no need to squeeze all your baby products into travel-sized bottles and when you're already trying to pack up the gear, toys, books and blankets, it's a small relief to not worry about this.

Other hotels that we've come across with excellent toiletry kits for kids include the Trump Soho which has an exclusive Lather toiletries kit and the Canyon Ranch Miami which included mini-bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby toiletries.

But there's even more for kids up in the guestrooms at Fairmonts.

One of the greatest things about New York City is that you can find pretty much anything you want at any time of the day from vintage clothing and rare books to exotic cuisine, late-night party spots, outdoor recreation, entertainment for all tastes and something as random as a nail salon open past 9pm. And everyone delivers, even the grocery store.

So when it comes to families staying at The Soho Grand, it shouldn't be a surprise that the hotel has equipped the guestrooms with all the necessary basics for babies including a crib, a diaper pail and a Maclaran Volo stroller. Yet this is the first time we've seen a hotel go all out for babies, beyond plush crib bedding and a stuffed animal (the Soho Grand has one of those too, a soft cuddly teddy bear.)

Even Babies Have a Ritzy Place to Sleep at The Ritz-Carlton Cancun

Where: Cancun, Mexico
August 24, 2011 at 3:31 PM | by | Comments (0)

Everyone altogether say, "Awwwwwwwwww."

Yes, that is one of the brand-new baby hotel "rooms" that the Ritz-Carlton Cancun has begun offering for guests who won't let the arrival of a little one stop their jet-setting ways.

The Itzy, Bitzy Ritz Kids rooms are actually ocean view deluxe rooms inside the hotel but outfitted with baby-centric amenities to resemble a home nursery such as:

A safety-approved crib; a changing table over the chest of drawers; a television armoire positioned so as not to disturb baby at naptime; miniature hangars in the closet to fit an infant’s wardrobe; and a telephone programmed to light up, not ring.

Even the Do Not Disturb sign gets the baby treatment saying "Shh, Baby Sleeping" so that folks passing by might heed the sign and lower their voices. (And if you see this sign, you really should lower your voice. You don't not want the wrath of parent who has tried for an hour to get the baby to sleep.)

There's Nothing Wrong With Getting Your Kids Hooked on Hotel Toiletries, Is There?

August 4, 2011 at 3:24 PM | by | Comments (0)

There's nothing wrong with getting your kids addicted to hotel toiletries while they're young, is there? Like six months young? Because that's probably what we're doing with own spawn after a stay at the The Trump Soho.

As part of their TrumpKids program, babies get not just a tricked out crib complete with a soft blankie, a stuffed elephant, a rubber duckie and a bib (emblazoned with TrumpKids logo) but also a travel kit of Lather Baby products. Lather toiletries are found in hotels all over (particularly JDV Hotels) but this was the first time that we've seen Lather Baby and indeed, it looks like the Trump Soho is the only hotel to carry them. Ooo, not just any toiletries, exclusive toiletries! Ok yes, obviously we care more about this than the kids.

If You've Ever Wondered What One of These Looks Like...

We never thought--never, ever--that one day we would be arrive at a hotel and request one of these. But yesterday we did. And this is what it looks like.

This crib was delivered to our room at the Canyon Ranch Miami Beach (more on that tomorrow.) It came with with Winnie the Pooh sheets and bumpers (don't worry new parents, it was extra thin and not a suffocation hazard), a Winnie the Pooh blanket and some travel-sized Johnson&Johnson baby toiletries.

But since Canyon Ranch is a luxury hotel, this crib is probably a little more tricked out than others. Indeed, a friend told us that the cribs at the Eden Roc, also in Miami Beach, were "bare bones." Considering that the Eden Roc is just a notch below a luxury hotel, we guess we'll be hauling the pack-n-play for any upcoming stays at Holiday Inn and Motel6.

Rooms at Canyon Ranch start at $395 a night for a studio suite with kitchenette, which is actually quite decent for Miami Beach luxury hotels, especially considering that you can attend free exercise and nutrition classes during your stay.
