TV Commercial Filming Outside The Flatiron Turns Ugly

Where: 1141 Broadway [map], New York, NY, United States, 10010

The enigmatic Flatiron Hotel has left us in the lurch for quite some time now—first a giant fish tank, then a last-minute declaration of bankruptcy—and things only seem to be getting worse. An elaborate video shoot two weeks ago took over the entire block, and prompted spectators to take notice of the sitting-duck hotel. One passerby had this to say:

"I own a production company in a building that overlooks the hotel, and we can see inside the rooms. They look awful! I know they're looking for buyers, but they're going to have to do some serious renovations in there to get those rooms in shape. Right now the only thing that's even remotely appealing is the outdoor terrace, but that is always empty too. They don't seem to be making any progress at all."

What Do You Think of the New Holiday Inn Commercials?

July 14, 2009 at 3:06 PM | by | Comment (1)

So, Holiday Inn has a new look. It's had this new look for quite some time now — we stayed in one of the first-to-be-refreshed properties in Chelsea last summer (and quite liked it, might we add) — and now they're spreading the word out to Holiday Inn's peeps by way of baseball fans and racing fans. They've rolled out two new ad spots to finally start promoting the total brand makeover the chain has been undergoing (the ads come in conjunction with Holiday Inn's "brand relaunch.")

Promising that this brand relaunch is the "largest in hospitality history," more than 3,200 properties are undergoing the upgrades and these ads — which also promote the partnership between HI and Major League Baseball and Richard Childress Racing — actually show images of the newly-refurbished rooms; a big step from the ads that came when the first whispers of the HI redesign were happening (the previous ads showed only a new logo).

The New Extended Stay Hotels Ad is a Gas

September 16, 2008 at 1:52 PM | by | Comments (4)

Good lord. The Extended Stay brand is at it again.

Remember the chick-licking-everything-in-the-room video that was supposed to imply that an Extended Stay guestroom is exceptionally clean?

Behold their newest foray into gross-out advertising: the one minute and three second fart joke that is the latest Extended Stay Hotels commercial.

The words "hotbox" and "dutch oven" come to mind, but do you know what doesn't come to mind? Comfort, now that we can clearly visualize the chick in white PJ's who slept in this bed before us farting straight into the pillow we're resting our pretty faces on. Vom.

How Many Licks Does It Take To Get to the Bottom of an Extended Stay Hotel Toilet?

August 6, 2008 at 11:30 AM | by | Comments (4)

Oh, ew. Also: oh, AWESOME. Extended Stay Hotels has apparently produced the all-out creepfest masterpiece above, which manages to simultaneously achieve the titles of the greatest and most foul hotel commercial we've ever come across.

So many questions! First: WTF? Second: creepy, right? And third: the thought of licking a hotel room remote is roughly on par with the thought of licking a toilet seat. Oh wait, she did that too.

Like we said, tip your housekeeper just in case hot girls licking every surface in a hotel room becomes a trend.

Also, something interesting was pointed out by one of the BoingBoing commenters: "Notice that her hair, which falls in the bowl, is still dry when she raises her head. That leads me to believe that it is a new, never used model that is just a prop." Great. But somehow we still feel kind of skeeved.

So, we hope this satisfies that MSNBC columnist who complained about how boring hotel ads have become. Are you happy now?
