The Ritz-Carlton news just keeps rolling in: we’ve heard about new things happening in destinations as disparate as Israel, Bali, Aruba, Japan and beyond already. Closer to home, the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel – in Orange County, Los Angeles – is marking its last year as a twenty-something with new-look guestrooms, new f&b outlets, and more.
Perched high on the cliffs above the crashing waves of the Pacific, the hotel’s location was the source of inspiration for the new design. That translates into lots of pale blues against white walls and sheets, with contrasting dark wood in the headboard and furniture. It’s the kind of beach-y modern that sits midway between the more traditional Ritz-Carlton wealthy- great-aunt look and younger urbanite style you’d find in its Georgetown, DC hotel for example.
Swissotels is glamming up their hotels' executive lounges and to start, they've created a mini-version at their headquarters in Zurich. But unlike most hotel companies who keep their model rooms under lock and key, Swissotels is putting theirs on full display to the public.
The new DesignLab, as it's called, resembles a modern “Arvenstübli” or pine parlour which combines traditional Swiss design with contemporary design and technology. Here, DesignLab creator Karsten Schmidt and Director of Interior Design for Swissotels, breaks down the pine parlour elements:
“Drawers and furniture have been decorated with ornaments in the style of traditional Swiss Sgraffito, which is still to be found on the facade of many buildings in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.
The engravings and carvings originate from the Appenzeller wood-carver Roman Räss, who has created a name for himself outside of the well-known woodcarving town of Brienz, with his contemporary work and art projects. Selected design pieces such as the Bell Tables of Sebastian Herkner for ClassiCon, the book merry-go-round of Roderick Vos for Linteloo, the Etch Lights of Tom Dixon, the moooi chairs by Marcel Wanders or the Eames Rocking Chair of C. and B. Eames for Vitra, supplement the ambience in the new DesignLab."

It’s not a view of Tiananmen Square or a section of the Great Wall outside Beijing, but the window of this Superior Club room at the Kerry Hotel Beijing perfectly frames Rem Koolhaas’s now-iconic shard-like CCTV building.
Thanks to our far-flung, adventurous and nonstop jetsetting contributors who never enter a hotel room without photographing the place from top to bottom, we've been able to get a peek into hotel rooms around the world by flipping through our numerous Photo Galleries.
We have so many good shots from so many great hotels, it's getting hard to keep track of all of them. So from now on, we'll be rounding up our favorite photo galleries once a week. Some will be pulled together by hotel brand others will be done by city, design, style, amenities or just plain old hotel lust.
Today we're showing off photos of the exclusive hotel club lounges from around the world. Access to these clubs usually mean forking over $30-$100 more a night for your room but often give you great perks such as free internet, dedicated concierge services and all the snacks and drinks you like.

Manhattan's east side isn't exactly teeming with trendy, modern hotels, so it's good to hear that one of the area's more prominent places, the Millennium UN Plaza, is embarking on an elaborate three-phase renovation project, with the first phase set to be completed this fall.
Built in 1976, the hotel is comprised of two glass towers, which up until now have basically been separate but equal parts of the same building. Now, in addition to the property-wide renovation, Millennium is setting out to re-define one of those towers as a more luxury-oriented section of the hotel, with slightly higher rates, better views, better amenities, and a 30th floor Skyline Club.

Over on Jaunted, you can get our inside looks at some of the world’s best airline lounges, so we thought we’d do something similar here and start talking about some of the hotel lounges we’ve frequented lately for our series on Hotel Club Lounges. Today, we're having a look inside the Executive Lounge at the very new Hilton within The Squaire complex at Frankfurt International Airport.
When you're an executive lounge at an airport hotel, it's probably a good idea to mirror the upscale airline lounges found next door, right? Right. So when the Hilton Frankfurt Airport finally opened last December, they kept that jet set appeal all the way up through the executive lounge.
We popped into the lounge only a few days ago, thanks to one of our buddies at Australian Business Traveller and his Hilton status. Upstairs in the shiny, zeppelin-like SQUAIRE complex, the Hilton's lounge overlooks the atrium lobby andif you're luckythe glass roof will give you brief glimpses of airplanes taking off right overhead.

Today, we're having a look inside the Executive Lounge at the Conrad Hong Kong, and some impressive thunderstorms out the window.
Earlier this year we had a peek at the pool that belongs to the Conrad Hong Kong, a 61-story tall tower attached to the luxury Pacific Place mall on Hong Kong Island. Now we can follow up with a little more detail on the hotel's Executive lounge, located on the 59th floor.
When booked on the Executive floor, you are whisked straight up to the lounge upon arrival for check in, while sitting down and having your first drink. Located on the harbour side of the hotel, the lounge offers fantastic views over Hong Kong Island towards Tsim Tsa Tshui across the water.
Executive floor rooms are from floor 57 and up, but we'd recommend to request a room on floor 58, 59, or 60. Floors 58 and 60 are connected to the lounge via a small spiral staircase, which makes popping to your room much easier than waiting for an elevator for all of two floors.

Today, HotelChatter contributor Eric Rosen takes us along with him to the Club Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton Istanbul.
Though the regular service at an upscale property like the Ritz-Carlton Istanbul is often impeccable, getting a Club Level room here confers a host of added benefits and perks. The hotel has dedicated Club Level floors on the 11, 12 and 14 stories, but guests staying in rooms on other floors can also obtain club access for a premium fee added onto the room rate (about 65 euros per day, from what we can tell from the online reservations system).
Here's yet another hotel that's acting like an airline--The Radisson Blu Aqua hotel in Chicago which has just opened its new 24-Hour Business Class Lounge.
Guests staying in one of the hotel's suites will get complimentary breakfast, snacks and refreshments throughout the day and a dedicated concierge from 6:30 to 9am and again from 4:30 to 10pm. Lounging in the lounge can be down by flipping through a selection of newspapers and magazines or chillaxing in front of a giant flat panel TV.
Guests staying in the biz class floors also get other perks outside the lounge like 1,000 Club Carlson Gold Points per night stay, an in-room Nespresso machine, complimentary mineral water, two pairs of slippers and the use of an iPad where they can access the hotel's room service and valet at the touch of a button.

120 Sheraton Club Lounges around the world got an upgrade this year, and we just happened to have caught a glimpse of the one in Times Square yesterday during one of our routine Manhattan hotel inspection rounds (we don't actually do those, but it sure sounds fun, doesn't it?).
The VIP lounges are only accessible to SPG members, but regular civilians who want to cough up an extra $50-$150 (depending on the season) can also experience the lofty life too.
In the mornings, fruits, cereals and other breakfast items remain laid out until 11am; while in the evenings, dessert is brought up, hors d'oeuvres are served, a bar opens, and guests are invited to linger as long as they like. You see, at Sheraton, the Club Lounge is open 24/7—no weekday closings, no curfew. And because the facility is always available, they've made the new design super user-friendly with individual TV screens, plenty of power outlets all over the place, and of course, killer views everywhere you turn.

For an extra $100 per night, guests can bump up to a Grand Club King (starting at around $299), which allows them access into the Grand Club's sprawling, beige-accented lounge area. Like in other club lounges, breakfast is laid out here every morning, snacks are available all day, and the whole space has a feeling of peace and quiet. It helps that it's way up on the sixteenth floor. And yes, nature is kind of a theme here, with those dried butterflies, and a piled rock sculpture (which is actually made of wood), and bright bursts of greenery coming from the terrace outside.

A while ago, we showed you the inside of a Presidential Suite at the Westin New York Times Square Well, here's another way to get high-class at the self-proclaimed "healthy" hotel (for a lot less money). Located on the eighth floor, the Atrium Club Lounge is available to any guest staying in one of the 126 Atrium Club rooms. More on those later.
We poked around inside the Lounge on a rainy Sunday evening, and found quite a few couples, families, and lone travelers making use of the large space. Without a doubt, the best seats in the house are by the slanted windows, where you can look down on Times Square—and enjoy it from a distance (the best way).
