Celebrate SLS' 5th Birthday, Get 2 Tickets to the SLS Vegas Opening

November 12, 2013 at 12:04 PM | by | Comments (0)

We've just turned 10 but the original SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills is still a baby at 5 years old. Crazily enough, we were there when hotelier Sam Nazarian gave birth to the energetic hotel that would turn into a full-on, real deal hotel collection with a property in South Beach and more to open in New York, Vegas, Seattle and beyond.

And in typical flashy SLS style, they are celebrating the milestone in a major way.

The hotel has put together an extravagant package SLS 5-Year Anniversary package priced at $10,000 a night that includes a stay in the presidential suite, a truffle dinner for two, personal chaffuer in a BMW, a Ciel Spa experience and wait for it...two tickets to the opening of SLS Las Vegas.

Say what??? We had to double-check this package listing but it's for real. The two tickets are just simply tickets to the opening and not a hotel stay. But we're guessing that if you spend 10 grand on this package, you'll probably spend at least $250 on a hotel room at SLS in Vegas. Remember, SLS Vegas will open sometime in fall 2014.

A more affordable birthday gift for SLS is after the jump.

Here's the latest happening in the luxury hotel world as told by JustLuxe.com. Got a question about luxury hotels, the travel biz, and where to stay? Send it in and we'll have JustLuxe answer it.

Whoever came up with that little motto “It’s the thought that counts” for special-occasion gifting is a more spiritually evolved creature than we (or Kristen Stewart …or Johnny Depp’s new piece) will ever be. Loving thoughts are appreciated, but if you really want to make our next birthday memorable, please book us the VIP birthday package at the Flatiron Hotel.

Specifically, the one that comes with a private sushi chef, a classic Cadillac Deville ’65 with chauffeur, four tickets to the New York Giants, and all-day spa treatments for all the friends who are staying with us in the 4000-square-foot Toshi’s Penthouse. Plus a few more little things we haven’t detailed (full package details after the jump). It’s $8000 per person, plus tax and tip, but if you love someone, money’s a small price to pay, right?

Still hankering for a little suite eye candy after yesterday's HotelChatter Originals suite extravaganza? You're in luck--but only because it's the W South Beach's third birthday.

Last year, the hotel celebrated its second birthday with an exclusive bikini design; this year, it's giving us much more than a skimpy swimsuit. That is, if you splash out on a suite.

Even the entry-level rooms at the W South Beach are sexy, but if you really want to do it up in style, you can now opt for one of 26 VIP suites, which were handpicked to come with a slew of added perks and goodies.

The Timberline Lodge on Dedication Day in 1937.

The iconic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, Oregon turns 75 this year with a big party and you're invited. But first, a little history on how this historic hotel came to be.

The hard life during the Great Depression offered few jobs, no money, and little hope. So in 1933, the federal government created the Works Progress Administration (WPA) providing jobs for hundreds of thousands of Americans. On the Timberline project unskilled labor toiled alongside iron workers, stone masons, draftsmen, carpenters, loggers, road builders, designers and artisans to create an esthetically pleasing lodge that exceeded the make -work of many WPA projects.

Dedicated in 1937 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the lodge was built with pride to be treasured by generations to come.

There’s nuffink like a grande dame hotel, especially when it’s in as spectacular a setting as this one. The Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste, Italy, has just turned 100. Happy birthday SEP!

Sadly, that’s as far as the festivities go – there are no special offers marking the centenary, but it did remind us of what a gorgeous hotel it is – standing on the seafront, just off the side of Trieste’s extraordinary Piazza dell’ Unità, which is three sides Austro-Hungarian magnificence, one part Adriatic sea.

Luckily the rooms aren’t 100 years old: in 2009 it completed a two year restoration, and rooms look classic but modern (see here, which is more than we can say for a lot of old Italian hotels. Props to the SEP.

To celebrate its fifth birthday, the The James Chicago is giving you what you want. That's why we love hotel birthdays so much, they get older but we get all the gifts.

The James has created a Five of Your Favorite Things package that includes the amenities most frequently requested and best reviewed by guests.

The hotel already offers our favorite amenity—free WiFi—so we were curious to see which top five were most requested. We could definitely see why this one is popular: the 60-minute signature ASHA Massage at the hotel's Spa by ASHA. You and a lucky pal will get a massage with your choice of Aveda aromatherapy scents.

Kimpton Turns The Dirty Thirty, We Get to Drink for an Extra Hour Tomorrow

March 31, 2011 at 9:01 AM | by | Comments (0)

Hotel Palomar Chicago

The 30th birthday is the most dreaded birthday for 20-something-year-olds and typically, the only way to deal with it is by throwing yourself a 30th birthday bash and get inappropriately wasted.

For Kimpton Hotels' 30th birthday, they are kind of doing the same thing except we get all the benefits.

Starting tomorrow, April 1, Kimpton's actual birthday, the complimentary wine hour at all Kimpton hotels will be extended to two hours. There will also be complimentary cupcakes and special wine selections, including Kimpton's own Cuvee label. Remember, if things get too wild, just take it upstairs to your room. Kimpton won't mind. After all, they will only turn 30 once.

The W Los Angeles is Pretty Sexy for a 10-Year-Old

Last night we attended the 10th birthday party for the original W Hotel in Los Angeles--The W Los Angeles-Westwood. Yes, this fine property is 10 years old and to celebrate, the hotel threw a fun poolside bash in its new Escape Lounge (which is essentially a new name for the pool area and its cabanas.)

As guests flitted about drinking, socializing and tasting (there was a cabana devoted to serving Asian chicken salad), a bubble machine was spewing bubbles around the pool area. It was cute and fun and apparently, addictive as we heard one not-so-young man say, "I have this problem, I am addicted to bubbles!" and then he promptly went off to pop some bubbles.
