[Ed. Note: Contributing Editor PBB has been very busy lately...partying. Here's the first of two Party Dispatches for us.]

Went by the Hudson Hotel on Monday to check out a set by Ben Watt, who's half of Everything but the Girl. It was super loud--which is a good thing--and had quite a club vibe for a sunset show. Pretty good crowd, too.

Rumor is that another show in the hotel's Private Park is coming up in two weeks, but don't see anything on the Giant Step website about it.

Prince's First Concert at Hollywood Roosevelt Doesn't Include You and Your Friends

While we skulked around Hollywood Boulevard just as Prince's first show at the Hollywood Roosevelt was about to start, the LA Times was inside, walking the purple carpet amongst "200 beautiful people" and sitting three feet away from Prince as he jammed throughout the night. And it was a long night.

The paper reports that Prince didn't show up for the later, more intimate jazz session until 4am. But despite some sound problems (the LA Times blames that on the hotel's Blossom Room which was "expected in a room that's also been used for bar mitzvahs"), the night went off without a hitch.

The details on Prince's performance contract at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel haven't been finalized but already, reports are swirling that the musical superstart will get about $3 million for his seven week concert series set to begin on June 15. Page Six reports:

"He's getting paid $3 million for the gigs - $1.5 million is coming from a clothing company, Verizon is chalking up $750,000, and the rest is covered by the hotel. Prince will also get comped rooms, food and beverages." A rep for Prince didn't return calls.

The concerts will take place in the hotel's Blossom Room on Friday nights starting at 11pm and will run until 4 in the morning with food served at 2am. No doubt, Lindsay Lohan will make good use of the bathroom stalls to stay awake during these peformances.

LA's 'Musical' Hotels

Yesterday, we looked at some Los Angeles hotel options for a friend looking to  get some "Award Season Boondoggle." Today we found a more subdued query on the A Luxury Travel Blog from a Randi I. who was looking for a hotel in LA with good musical entertainment.

I am just overnighting there and I will be by myself, but I'd like to hear some good jazz, folk, or classical music if possible. I'm not really into traveling around a lot or even renting a car, but if there were some place that had entertainment in the hotel itself that would work very well for me.

Randi also goes on to mention that LA might be culture shock for her as she is coming from Alaska and might not want to leave the hotel much. Totally understandable as LA can be scary but a shame if you've traveled so far to get there.

Luxury Travel's suggestions and HotelChatter's suggestions for Musical LA hotels after the jump.

The Resident Hotel Band is Making a Comeback...in Africa

While hotels in middle America are getting in on the boutique hotel trends, this one hotel in Africa seems to be starting a retro kind of trend. That of the Hotel Band.

The Sheraton Kampala Hotel has done just that with the announcement of their new band from Bulgaria--Moon Vision. The band is sure to appease those who were sick of house music and the $1,500 martini. What's more, this band is ready to appeal to a mélange of cultures:

"We play all kinds of music in Arabic, Spanish, English, French and Italian," says Krastava, who has her own songs in French and English. The duo, in close links with the Sheraton chain of hotels, will be at Kampala Sheraton for the entire October.

Hmmm...now that we think of it, this band reminds us of the cheesy lounge acts in "Lost in Translation." And would you really travel to Africa and stay at a Sheraton just to see them?
