No Retirement But a Facelift For A Trieste Grand Dame's Centenary
There’s nuffink like a grande dame hotel, especially when it’s in as spectacular a setting as this one. The Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste, Italy, has just turned 100. Happy birthday SEP!
Sadly, that’s as far as the festivities go – there are no special offers marking the centenary, but it did remind us of what a gorgeous hotel it is – standing on the seafront, just off the side of Trieste’s extraordinary Piazza dell’ Unità, which is three sides Austro-Hungarian magnificence, one part Adriatic sea.
Luckily the rooms aren’t 100 years old: in 2009 it completed a two year restoration, and rooms look classic but modern (see here, which is more than we can say for a lot of old Italian hotels. Props to the SEP.

Who Knew? This Month is 'Rock the Robe' Month at Kimpton Hotels

The first way to win a Kimpton bathrobe is to simply attend the hotel's nightly wine hour, which has actually been renamed Wild Wine Hour this month and will be two hours long instead of the usual hour. Party time! The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne turns 10 this summer, and to celebrate, they've got a slew of promotions priced at just ten bucks--yes, even guest rooms. It's also offering an Insane Hotel Package for $60,310, but let's cover the cheap stuff first, eh?

The Peninsula Chicago Gives Away $10 Rooms for the Second Night of Your Stay
The Peninsula Chicago is marking its 10th anniversary, and what a decade it's been. Especially recently, when the hotel shot to fame for being the spot where Charlie Sheen's porn star sent off her drunken tweets for help. To celebrate, the hotel is giving away a buy-one-night, get-the-second-for-only-$10 deal.
The hotel is also getting festive with a 10th Anniversary Royal-Tea, which upgrades the regular tea service with caviar with blinis, lobster soufflé and a trio of seasonal macaroons along with a gift of 10-truffle pieces to take home. A glass of Laurent Perrier, Cuvee Grand Siecle Brut champagne is included. It costs $110.

The Eldorado Santa Fe Wants You To Get In On Its Birthday
Yay, another hotel anniversary that gives us gimmicky discounts! Today it’s the turn of the Eldorado Hotel & Spa in Santa Fe which is celebrating its 25th birthday next month.
To celebrate – here’s the really gimmicky one – they’re offering anyone who stayed at the hotel during its first ever month (April 1986) to return for a night at the original rate they paid – which ends up at around $30 per night (it’s called the Turn Back The Clocks deal). Sadly, there’s no cheating the system – the onus is on you to provide proof, such as a photo of you there, “dated receipt” (uhh, surely nobody is that anal as to keep a receipt for 25 years?) or “other proof”. And, if you’re thinking that that’s unlikely, think again – the offer has already received several takers (we guess the days of scrapbooking your every photo, food bag and receipt from your holidays has to come in handy at some point).
But never fear, because the hotel also has something up its sleeve for those of us who didn’t have the fortune to stay back in those heady days of 1996: a straightforward 25 percent off rates throughout April, bringing rates down to $169. Tempted? They’re throwing in a free box of chocolates with every room. Now you are, right?

Is the US Grant's Anniversary Package a Good Deal?
San Diego's US Grant joins the century club in October. Obviously, 100 is a big birthday. In case you want to come out to celebrate, or just see whether the historic hotel has aged gracefully, we searched around to see how you can get the best deal.
The hotel is promoting a 100th anniversary offer that starts at $249 a night with an upgrade to a suite and breakfast for two. We tried looking for a Friday stay in October to see what other kind of rates we could scrounge up. First, we went to book a room through the hotel's site, and we got a starting rate of $309 a night for a legacy suite.

Use Your Hotel Key to Unlock Prizes at The Jefferson's Anniversary Party
To mark its one-year anniversary after a 2.5-year renovation, the Jefferson will be throwing a key party. Not those gross kinda key parties where swingers swap keys and partners. Instead, the hotel is selling antique keys for a contest to see who can unlock various prizes from the hotel.
On August 31 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., five locked boxes full of swag will be waiting to be unlocked in the lobby. People who have purchased keys will be invited to try their luck to see if they can open the boxes.

The Regent Esplanade Celebrates Its 85th Birthday With 85 Euro Room Rates
We love it when hotels come up with nifty ways of celebrating their birthdays which save us money at the same time, so we’re grateful to the art deco Regent Esplanade in Zagreb for deciding to mark its 85th birthday.
Unfortunately, it’s not doing anything humungously cheap – instead, it’s offering rates from €85 ($116/£75) for a double room until April 25. That’s about half the normal rates (the cheapest room we can see in May is €159, or £141/$217).

The US Grant and the Blackstone Renaissance Turn the Big 1-0-0

Two historic U.S. hotels are celebrating their 100th birthdays this year, but they want to give you a gift instead of vice versa.
To mark the centennial festivities, San Diego's U.S. Grant and Chicago's Blackstone Renaissance are offering discounts and prizes.
The Grant is asking former guests to submit their fondest memory of staying at the downtown hotel on its website, where you can read all of the contest entries. Then each month from February through September, hotel staff will chose a favorite and the storyteller will win a two-night stay at the Grant and be eligible for grand-prize drawing.
The big prize, which will be announced on the hotel's official anniversary, October 15, includes two round-trip airline tickets to San Diego, a three-night stay in the presidential suite, a wine-pairing dinner for two at the Grant Grill and a sailing trip.

L'Auberge de Sedona Gets a $25 Million Makeover for Turning 25

Time, energy, and millions of dollars are often fed into resort overhauls to prove that they are bigger, better, and more luxe than their swanky competitors. The $25 million dollars that L'Auberge de Sedona invested into Phase One of their expansion project was a symbolic expense, meant to coincide with the property's 25th anniversary. And here, we thought that a sterling silver plaque would suffice.
Previously honored by Wine Spectator and Condé Nast Traveler, the message L'Auberge de Sedona seems to be sending with the renovation is, "The more frills, the better." Many of the lodgings are meant to be private mini-retreats, with 64 brand new cottages recently added to the grounds. At 1,200 square feet, with indoor and outdoor spaces, outdoor showers, and gas fireplaces, the phrase that comes to mind is "rental property," not weekend getaway.
With prices ranging in the $400-500 range for cottage accommodations, you're definitely paying a premium for all of those extras. However, there are rooms and Gardenside Cottages available at a comparatively more reasonable $200-300.

Le Manoir Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary With a Mini-Music Festival
Music festivals – scruffy affairs where you sit on the floor, hopefully in the sun, and drink your own bodyweight, right?
Not any more, they’re not. Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons - chef Raymond Blanc’s uber-posh country pile just outside Oxford – is 25 years old this year, and it’s celebrating with a mini-music festival.
But it’s no ordinary music festival. Oh no. This is Le Festival aux Quat’Saisons: an uberposh, gastro music festival and although it’s going on for three days, you’re only meant to attend for one night (presumably your stomach would give way, as would your bank balance, if you stayed any longer).

W Hong Kong's First Birthday Brings Never-Ending List Of Freebies
It feels like only yesterday that we stepped into the open, harbor-scented air of the 75th floor pool deck at the W Hong Kong, when actually it was a whole six months ago. The hotel itself has only been around slightly longer, and they'll be celebrating their first birthday in style with a comprehensive guest package.
The big promotion is only available August 7-10, so it'll only work out perfectly if you're already in the neighborhood, but the price and extras are worth mentioning.
