Father's Day Idea :: Bolton-Free Bahamas

Forget Hallmark cards. If you're in need of an excuse to go to the Bahamas, why not pretend you're doing it for Father's Day?

The Radisson Cable Beach Resorts in Nassau is offering Dads some interesting packages like the Gambling Package which coincides with the Father's Day Blackjack Tournament on June 16 and 17 in the hotel's 24-hour casino. There's also the "Everyone Wins! Slot Tournament" June 25 to 27 which despite the tournament name, we think you still end up losing.

If Dad can't gamble then he can hit up the hotel's golf course, but just make sure he avoids the Michael Bolton concert on June 24.

The real score however is the 3,000 feet of prime beach property. Which is much more likely the reason for us to book our trip but, we'll say it's for Dad.

Memorial Day Getaway: Hamptons Hotels

May 26, 2006 at 9:15 AM | by | Comments (0)

We know that half of you are probably already out the door, getting started early on your three-day-weekend.

But if you head to the Hamptons and can't stand the 12 other roommates your old friend from college has at his/her "beach house" or your "bed" is located under the Beer Pong table, head for the safety of HRH Resorts.

This Southhampton-based hotel chain offers up decent lodgings with posh names like the Hotel Bentley and the Hotel Capri. At the Bentley there are 39 suites each equipped with Aveda bath products, spring water, Starbucks coffee, mini-bars, CD players, and 2 TV's.

However, this is not a luxury resort on the beach but rather a converted motel on a busy highway five minutes from the village of Southampton.

One thing to note is that check-in is at a sister property, The Atlantic, across Route 39. That's where you need to go to check-in, pick up a beach permit ($250 deposit reqd, good for town beaches--I recommend Flying Point) and beach towels ($35/towel deposit) and anything else you may need that requires face-to-face interaction. The Atlantic is only 2 minutes away, but crossing Route 39 can take 10-15 minutes when traffic is heavy.

Another bad thing is that they don't take reservations online so give them a call  to inquire about availability. But it beats sleeping next to the empty cases of beer.

Also, here are the other suggestions we've had this week for Memorial Day Getaways in case you missed them or were too busy looking at the pictures of Britney near-dropping Tater Tot.

May 25, 2006 at 11:26 AM | by | Comments (3)

[Ed. Note: Here is an extra "good rate deal" for all you sponteaneous hotel mavens gettin' ready for the three day weekend. This screenshot was taken on May 25, 2006 at 10:35 AM. Enjoy.]

The Internet's travel roulette wheel is offering a four-star hotel South Strip Las Vegas resort for $186 a night over the Memorial Day weekend.

Now this is Hotwire and they won't tell you what hotel it is until after you book, but c'mon, this is Vegas, everything is gamble. We aren't even going to venture a guess at what is behind door #1, but we guarantee you it is not Clooney's place.

If anyone books this, let us know--deal or no deal?
