We just assumed all the good hotels in North Jersey would be totally booked up but this year's Super Bowl hotel situation has been way different from other years in that, well, there are a ton of hotels in NJ and NYC still open and still affordable. We are sure the discovery of white powder in hotels in NJ isn't helping with demand either.
Looking again at Expedia, you can find a reasonable hotel (under $300) in pretty much any part of Manhattan without two or three-day minimums.
And there are even more Game Day parties than we can keep up with. Like at the W Hoboken, the hotel will also be offering "Skyboxes", converted meeting room spaces, for people to watch the game. The price starts at $200 per person and runs from 6pm to 11pm with tailgate bites and an open bar. Oh and of course, a flatscreen to watch the game.
Here are more ways that hotels are celebrating the Super Bowl this weekend:
Football fans are rejoicing now that the NFL lockout has ended but the other kind of football fans are getting boisterous now that the Major League Soccer All-Stars games are on this week. And in Manhattan this week to take on this side of the ponds' biggest footies stars are Manchester United, led by their star player and recent hair transplant recipient, Wayne Rooney.
The Manchester United team bus was spotted on Tuesday morning outside of the W Hotel in Hoboken, and reports say some former players will be at Mulligan’s bar on Tuesday afternoon at noon. Many visiting teams in Major League Soccer that play against the New York Red Bulls (based in Harrison, N.J.) stay at the W Hotel.
Sorry, we just can't get enough of New Jersey today!
Considering shacking up at the W Hoboken soon on a trip to the NYC-area? While we have no issues with the hotel itself (it's a new W on the waterfront), we feel you should be aware about what's going on there on January 29--The 'Find Your Luvah' speed dating event which aims to be the largest speed dating event in Guinness World Records history.
But not only that, girls at the event will be given free samples of a new lip plumping lip gloss called, Luvah, that's plumped with aphrodisiacs. Oh boy. From Hoboken411:
The ultra chic W Hoboken Hotel, located on the Hudson Riverfront facing midtown Manhattan, is gearing up for the event by preparing its Great Room to accommodate hundreds of speed daters looking for love in all the right places.
For added convenience to those traveling from New York City and from throughout New Jersey, W Hoboken has commissioned Acura to chauffeur participants back and forth to the Hoboken PATH Station throughout the evening.
And, as a congratulatory tribute to any matches made that evening, W Hoboken will invite the lucky-in-love pairs back for a round of complimentary cocktails.
Hey, Hobokeners! Get ready to tell your NYC-dwelling coworkers to stuff it, because tomorrow you'll be getting presents from W Hotels and they won't. To hype up the imminent arrival of the W Hoboken to the North New Jersey scene, W Hotels "talent" will be stationed at the Hoboken PATH station during the peak morning and evening rush hours with goodie bags they're calling "PATH packs."
This afternoon on our way to the SoHo House (which you already know about because you checked the HotelChatter Twitter, obviously), we swung by the W Hoboken Hotel and Residences to check on its progress.
And: holy crap! It's up! It's lookin' good!
And by "it", we of course mean the white building in the center of the pic above, which someone we know has been stalking semi-feverishly for a few months now.
The website says the place is slated to open on February 26th, 2009, which we actually saw after we'd called the pre-opening sales office and were told its doors would be open by "uhh...like, January '09." Yeah, okay. We're gonna go ahead and put our money on the February date.
