In our iffy economy, it's expected that hotel rates would drop a bit but this new promotion from the Leading Hotels of the World is--in the voice of Crazy Eddie--insane!!!!
On October 1, nearly 100 of the hotels group will release a limited number of rooms at the unbelievable rate of $19.28 per night. Yes, you read right. $19.28.
Why that low? Well, that's a nod to the group's founding year--1928. Here's the official word:
For 80 minutes, starting at 8 a.m. Eastern on October 1, consumers will be able to secure the celebratory $19.28 rate via our site - www.lhw.com/1928
The rates are good for travel over Nov. 1 - Dec. 15. Some of the hotels that will be participating include Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin, L'Andana in Tuscany (Alain Ducasse's Italian hideaway), The Gleneagles in Scotland, The Dolder Grand in Zurich and Marquis Los Cabos in Mexico. Just remember, you only have 80 minutes to do it.
If you really want to get a leg-up on the amazing rate, you can pre-register starting today. Um...yeah. Do it!
Today we're hotel-chatting with Louis Sailer, General Manager of the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. This month the hotel is gearing up for the Formula 1 Grand Prix on September 28 which will speed by the hotel on its course. The race is going to be the world's first night-time race and will surely be a sight to see. But if you can't get to Singapore later this month, the Fullerton is still going to be there. In fact, it's been there since 1928 but not as a hotel. Keep reading to find out more.
Once upon a time (1920) in a land far, far away (Atlantic City, NJ) the Dennis Hotel was a beautiful historic hotel located right on the boardwalk. In fact, it was one of the original Atlantic City resorts!
Then one day (in 1979), this big, big company came along (Bally's) and built a casino around the hotel, surrounding its beauty and history with slots and poker tables while guests stayed in the hotel without realizing where they were.
Then (present-day), after its owners finally realized what an asset they were hiding, it was decided to renovate the former Dennis Hotel and bring it back to its glory.

One of the few hotels in Lisbon you'll catch tourist taking photographs of - the Eden VIP Aparthotel has the most spectacular art deco façade and most visitors think it's some kind of palace.
The 4-star hotel's stone gallery filled with tumbling leafy gardens used to front the Eden theatre before the building was converted by the VIP Hotels group. The conversion was so good the hotel was award several prizes by the Portuguese government.
And to top it all off, it has the most excellent location right in busy Restauradores square, in downtown Lisbon.
Here comes our annual winner in the cheesy-music-on-website hotel contest: the Ryan Mansion Inn in St John's, Newfoundland has a gentle instrumental rendition of the "My Heart Will Go On" Titanic theme song playing on its website, and what's worse, we totally can't find a mute button on the site.
You might well be wondering why a historic inn would be playing the Titanic music, but in fact it has some kind of reason for it.
In this era of transparency and instant information, it's no surprise that every business under the sun is trying to overhaul its digital image. Jumping on the bandwagon is the The Hotel Pennsylvania, which earned distinction last year as 2007 Hospitality Sales and Marketing Awards International (HSMAI) eMarketer of the Year. Also, as a Notable Hotel to Get Off of The Hotel DeathWatch List. (See The NY Observer.)
Their new website, hotelpenn.com, admittedly has all the usual bells and whistles -- neat graphics, plenty of information and links, an excellent monthly calendar (including all Madison Square Garden events, a gimme since the monster is just across the street over Penn Station). Oh and don't forget: music. What plays is "New York, New York," the instrumental version of course.
We like the history page, and the tidbit that their telephone number was celebrated in Glenn Miller's hit song, "Pennsylvania 6-5000" (the number is Manhattan's "longest continually used telephone number - impressive!)
Virtual overhaul aside, the literal hotel's overhaul can't come fast enough. A quick glance through a fraction of the more than 1500 reviews on Tripadvisor wildly sway, from "grim" and "filthy dump" to "pleasantly surprised" and "good value, great location." No groovy website can correct that until the work is finished.
