Here's just another reason why it pays to become a member of a hotel's loyalty program--access to cool technology that will make checking in a smooth transition after a long day of travel. Or so we hope.
Hilton Hotels has announced a new update to its HHonors app that will allow guess to select their own rooms, right down to the floor and room number. By the end of the year, this app function, along with digital check-in, will be in place at all 4,000 Hilton Hotels worldwide. Here's how it works:

If you're a frequent hotel guest, then you're probably a member of that hotel's loyalty program. Or you should be, so you can earn and use loyalty points at different hotels across the world.
While using a hotel's loyalty program is pretty straight-forward (find the hotel brand in whatever city you like and book), things work a little bit differently in Las Vegas which is dominated by massive hotel-casino resorts. In past years, you needed to be a member of a casino's players club program to earn rewards like upgrades, dinner comps and free rooms.
But that's no longer the case. Even first-time visitors to Vegas (affectionately called Vegas Virgins on our sister site, VegasChatter.com), can get a free room, a killer view, and more, all through their existing loyalty program membership.

It's no surprise that the upcoming Conrad Manila will share intimate relations with its neighbor, the sprawling Mall of Asia complex. Why? The manager of the upcoming hotel, which is set to open in 2015, is a company called SM Group. And as Wikipedia so eloquently points out, the Mall of Asia "is a shopping mall owned and developed by SM, the largest mall chain owner and developer in the Philippines."
So, yeah. Conrad's first property in the Philippines will be pretty much just a place for Hilton HHonors members to spend lots and lots o' dollars at the fourth largest shopping mall in the world, which gets a reported 200,00 visitors per day.
We're guessing Hilton is pretty stoked to get a piece of that pie. And after all, mall hotels can be kind of exciting (Minnesota's new Radisson Blu would likely agree). So...what else can we expect from Conrad Manila when it opens?

Over on Jaunted, you can get our inside looks at some of the world’s best airline lounges, so we thought we’d do something similar here and start talking about some of the hotel lounges we’ve frequented lately for our series on Hotel Club Lounges. Today, we're having a look inside the Executive Lounge at the very new Hilton within The Squaire complex at Frankfurt International Airport.
When you're an executive lounge at an airport hotel, it's probably a good idea to mirror the upscale airline lounges found next door, right? Right. So when the Hilton Frankfurt Airport finally opened last December, they kept that jet set appeal all the way up through the executive lounge.
We popped into the lounge only a few days ago, thanks to one of our buddies at Australian Business Traveller and his Hilton status. Upstairs in the shiny, zeppelin-like SQUAIRE complex, the Hilton's lounge overlooks the atrium lobby andif you're luckythe glass roof will give you brief glimpses of airplanes taking off right overhead.
Let’s play a little game of One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other, shall we? After all, it’s not like you’re really doing any work this week, are you? OK, here we go … Virgin America. Mood lighting. Reality TV shows. Free WiFi. Hilton.
OK, so it wasn’t that hard, was it? Now, even though Hilton may seem like the odd one out in this lineup, the granddaddy of hotel chains is now linked to the cool-kid airline through a rewards partnership.
Here’s how it works: members of both the Hilton HHonors program and Virgin America’s Elevate frequent flyer program earn one Elevate point for every $2 spent at participating Hilton hotels. Or you can opt to earn points per stay:50 Elevate points per stay at Hampton, Homewood Suites by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton properties, or 250 Elevate points at Hilton, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Doubletree, Embassy Suites Hotels, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Grand Vacations and Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.
Ah, a Midsummer Night's Math Problem. Well, not so much a math problem as a not-so-easy-to-keep-track-of numbers game: Hilton HHonors' midsummer promo is progressive meaning you're awarded with more and more points the more you stay.
From July 15 to September 30, Hilton HHonors members earn 500 bonus points on their first summer stay. As you continue to stay at Hiltons throughout the promo period, you can end up earning up to 10,000 bonus points after five stays.
· First Stay: earn 500 Bonus Points
· Second Stay: earn 1,000 Bonus Points (total of 1,500 points after two stays)
· Third Stay: earn 1,500 Bonus Points (total of 3,000 points after three stays)
· Fourth Stay: earn 2,000 Bonus Points (total of 5,000 points after four stays)
· Fifth Stay: earn 5,000 Bonus Points (total of 10,000 points after five stays)
Got it? Cool. You don't have to keep track of all these points by yourself; register for the promo here and Hilton will take care of everything for you.
