Last week we had to inform you that the rooms at The Hospital have gone up in price just a few weeks in. But what we taketh away, we also give, so here’s some good news: Urban Villa is launching with lower rates than planned.
It is, of course, the all-suite half hotel, half residence midway between London and Heathrow (or, as they euphemistically style it, the “Great West Quarter” of London). When we first discovered it, rooms were due to start at £129, but now they’re down, right down, to £100 and up. For what you get, that is an exceptional rate. Nay, extremely exceptional.

Europe’s busiest airports had a good year last year: citizenM arrived at Paris Roissy – Charles de Gaulle, the first European Element came to Frankfurt, and of course, the shirtless men of Moxy welcomed us at Milan Malpensa. With the last two of those openings courtesy of industry giants Starwood and Marriott, it seems appropriate that the latest news comes from Hilton Hotels, which is reflagging the former Kempinski hotel at Munich airport as the Hilton Munich Airport this month.
With that step, the almost proverbial “airport Hilton” is now available at each of the seven largest European airports (that’s London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris CDG, Munich, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Rome). There is more to the change in Munich than a different badge on the front door though, and construction in Amsterdam to replace its dated 1970s hotel is moving along too.

Remember when we told you about the Urban Villa Edinburgh, that’s currently under planning? Turns out that’s not the only one of its kind on the scene: Urban Villa London will kick off the brand when it opens in January.
According to the website, owned by the NOHO Hotel Group, it’ll be a place “where boutique hospitality collides with the comforts of luxurious residential living”. This means an all-suite property (100 suites in total) located in Brentford, halfway between Chiswick and Heathrow Airport. Suites – or “villas”, as they call them, will be “design-led”, with some, the Winter Garden Villas, enjoying views of Kew Gardens.
There’s very little info on the website, but it promises to combine “Manhattan style with thoughtful British modern luxury”. Each room will have a living room, kitchen and winter garden, as well as the bedroom. There will also be a gym, inroom spa treatments, and a concierge service. Our favorite part: you can pre-order a harder or softer mattress at the time of booking. Take it from someone currently struggling with the spinal after-effects of a month on SE Asian mattresses – this is the best idea in the world.

Holiday Inn London Heathrow M4 Jct 4 usually hypes its convenient location to Heathrow Airport, just off the M4 motorway at Junction 4, and its airport shuttle service but now they've got a few new things to shout about.
The hotel finished a renovation of 280 of its rooms with the "modern business traveller" in mind and they crowdsourced a lot of the design from customer feedback.
Five concept rooms were initially done over and the hotel had guests come in and share their thoughts. The hotel then took the best elements from each of the five designs and incorporated those into the final product which are called Double Standard Rooms. Now the rooms have new furniture, leather club chairs, 32-inch HDTVs, ample workspaces and quality bedding with a choice of soft or firm pillows. Compare the new rooms with the older standard rooms here.
The Holiday Inn is now calling these rooms the hotel room of the future. We don't think it's quite there yet but it's a massive improvement. Rates for a double standard room start at $118 this weekend while the standard rooms are $104. The hotel still somehow charges for WiFi but all you need to do is join IHG's Rewards Club loyalty program to get it for free.
