Guess The Hotel Revealed: Grupo Habita’s Endémico in Ensenada

Last week, we relied on the deck chairs at this emerald green pool to get us out of a little bout of winter blues. But where are they? No, it’s not an Aman Resort, although we can see that comparison - both SFHotelGuy and nickdla guessed it right: we were hinting at Hotel Endémico in Ensenada, Mexico.

Part of Grupo Habita (which includes the likes of Hotel Americano in New York and Condesa DF in Mexico City), Endémico has just 20 luxury cabins, scattered on a hillside overlooking the wine region of the Baja Peninsula.

Guess The Hotel With The Emerald Green Pool

January 23, 2013 at 5:38 PM | by | Comments (3)

It’s near January's end and frankly, today of all days winter is getting us down. We have never seen so many weather-related Tweets out there. Yes, we know. Baby, it's cold outside.

So, for a little mid-week escape (and as part of our week-long Fantasy dreaming), we’re calling upon this delicious deck chair to make us feel better. But where are we? Time for you to Guess The Hotel!

- This hotel has a very small number of rooms, if you can even call them rooms at all

- Each room has its own outdoor terrace with kiva and the same uninterrupted views

- The small group to which the hotel belongs has a number of high-design properties in the Americas

- The area is known for its wine, and not far from a rather infamous party destination

Know which hotel we have in mind? Tell us in the comments!

Guess The Hotel Revealed: Hamilton Island Reef View Hotel

December 10, 2012 at 12:48 PM | by | Comments (0)

Last week, we showed you a lush, tropical view, and called upon your internal GPS skills to tell us where you thought it might be. We admit, it may have been a little more difficult than previous rounds of Guess the Hotel, to decipher the mystery paradise island. We gave some clues and now it's time for the big reveal.

Drum roll please...

The tropical location is Australia's very own Hamilton Island, where we recently spent a few days enjoying the laid back rhythm of island life.

One of the best things about this place is that the entire island is run by a corporation, and it's one a few resort islands that make up the Whitsundays, located on the Southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Its location makes it a perfect location for water sports, cocktailing by the pool and just general relaxation.

Guess The Hawt Island Hotel Where One Card Gets All!

December 4, 2012 at 12:29 PM | by | Comments (0)

Let's see how good you are with pin-pointing a hotel's location with another installment of Guess The Hotel!

This place has one killer view and it comes highly recommended. But if you are lucky enough to be gazing out at this expanse from your balcony, there are very few things that could get on your nerves.

Need a few hints? Here ya go:

*The island is owned by one corporation. So a room card will get you everything.

*The hotel has power outlets in each parking spot for the sole form of transportation.

*Just down the road is a resort that takes home the title as one of the Top 100 in the World.

*Since the island is prone to some nasty weather, the hotel boasts the tallest, highest-speed, external observation elevators in the country.

Elephants, zebra, water buffalo and ostrich roam the play pen surrounded by bungalows at Vision Quest Ranch

Last week we tried to stump you with another game of Guess the Hotel, sharing a photo of an elephant who had joined us for breakfast off our porch at Vision Quest Ranch B&B. We figured you'd assume an African lodge and never an exotic wild animal retreat in Salinas, California, but doggonit, you done figured it out in less than 24 hours in one correct reply. Right on, hotel smarty pants!

We shared a full report about a year ago when we recommended you Please Feed the Animals at Vision Quest Ranch B&B, but visited again recently as we were dying to bring the kids along and also wanted to check on rumors of a new, onsite zoo.

Guess The Hotel With An Elephant Nosing Around

November 27, 2012 at 12:47 PM | by | Comment (1)

For the most telling clues, look beyond the obvious...

It’s time to test your hotel naming swagger with another game of Guess the Hotel!

Take a look at the photo below: can you name the hotel where this African elephant was swinging a little swagger of its own?

Here are some hints:

* Technically a B&B, stay here and you get to choose from eight differently-themed military grade tents, aka bungalows.

* In the morning, your first visit will not be from housekeeping but from an African elephant like Malika here.

* The B&B goes by several names and shares its grounds with a ranch (and soon to be zoo) that's home to a multitude of exotic animals, including zebra, ostrich, camel, baboon, Bengal tigers, African lions, black bear, hyena, Siberian lynx, bearcat, and lemur.

* One of the world’s best wine regions is so close you can almost taste the Pinot Noir.

The Gale and Regent South Beach Is Almost Ready

It's Guess the Hotel revealed!

How's this for cheering up those Monday blues? What you're looking at here is the rooftop pool at the almost-finished Gale and Regent South Beach, which we spotlighted on Friday's Guess the Hotel.

If the hotel's name sounds familiar, it's because we did a quick run-down on this place back in August. You see, Miami has a kind of history with hotels that are named "Regent," so when we found out about this 87-room boutique hotel, we got a little excited. But interestingly, this hotel has two names.

But forget all that confusing naming business. Here's all you need to know: the Gale and Regent will boast a 5,000 sq ft rooftop pool deck, a subterranean nightclub, several dining options, and, best of all, free access to beach chairs at the adjacent Shelborne, which is owned by the same company.

The best part? It opens in less than three weeks!

Guess the Hotel With the Paperless 'Do Not Disturb' Signs

November 16, 2012 at 11:48 AM | by | Comments (2)

Sometimes we do actually require a little privacy in our hotel room, but the "Do Not Disturb" sign is either missing, too cryptic to decipher, or we don't feel like fiddling with a flimsy piece of cardboard on the outside of our door.

Well, here's a nifty little device that lets us control our privacy situation with the push of a button!

But before we go any further, we're going to let you, the reader, guess which hotel has installed these ingenious little touch screen panels. Ready for your hints?

· This property is actually made up of two hotels. They're located at the same address, they both share a lobby, and there's no real difference between them—same rooms, same rates, same look.

· The twin hotels are actually landmarks from the 1940s. At some point, they fell into disrepair, and the building became a nursing home. Now, it's back to a hotel!

· This hotel is still finishing up construction, but when it opens later this year, it will be a shiny new mid-range addition to the sunny city in which it's located.

· From the rooftop pool of this hotel, you can spot a few iconic (but more expensive) hotels across the street.

Guess The Hotel Revealed: Wildflower Hall Himalayas

You guys are way too good at this! Here we were thinking we’d pick a more difficult to identify hotel, but no: both in the article comments and on Twitter (@HotelChatter) several of you got it right in no time, so we couldn’t wait until next week for our reveal.

The hotel we were hinting at was Wildflower Hall, an Oberoi resort in the Himalayas. Located in Shimla, in the far northwest of India, with Tibet and Nepal to the (south)east, the hotel sits at an altitude of 8,250 feet (2,500 meters) in 22 acres of forest. Formerly the site of Lord Kitchener’s residence, the current six-story building was constructed after a fire in the early nineties.

Guess The Hotel With The Unlikely Outdoor Jacuzzi

November 5, 2012 at 9:52 AM | by | Comments (3)

Time for another Guess the Hotel! Following a week of all things Sandy (go here for our post-Sandy guide to New York hotels), we all deserve a little distraction. You’ll find the clues below, so tell us: where is that deck chair we’d like to be sitting on right now?

- That deck chair is far away. And we mean far, far away

- We called the outdoor Jacuzzi unlikely because the location of this hotel doesn’t necessarily conjure up images of lounging around outside in your swimwear

- Remote as it is, there is an extensive spa on site, with a mix of holistic treatments based on different traditions

- The hotel in its current form was built after the previous structure, the country villa of a British Lord, burnt to the ground

Do you know which hotel we’re talking about? Put your answers in comments below!

Westin Grand Central Fills Out The Old New York Helmsley

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 212 E 42nd St [map], New York, NY, United States, 10017
October 15, 2012 at 9:20 AM | by | Comments (0)

On Friday, we posted a photo from a hotel that's just completed a $75 million renovation, though as the empty bookcase suggests, there's still a bit of work to be done re-furnishing the place. Nevertheless, a discerning reader correctly identified the hotel as the Westin Grand Central, formerly the New York Helmsley.

Westin officially took over the property back in January, though the official opening didn't take place until Friday, when Mayor Bloomberg showed up for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Now, construction is basically over (aside from the lobby restaurant and those empty bookshelves), and the new Westin is ready for guests.

But what do the new rooms actually look like? Click through to see our photo gallery!

Guess the Hotel With The Big Red Bookcase

October 12, 2012 at 9:15 AM | by | Comment (1)

It's been a while since we last spun the Guess The Hotel wheel, but something about this week told us we (and hopefully you) could use a little fun. So, without further ado, your clues:

· At the risk of making this too easy (or too impossible, for that matter), we'd like to draw your attention to the most obvious thing about this photo: the bookcase is empty. And it's empty for a reason...

· This hotel has been busy having 'work done' for quite a while, though it remains open. Still, things aren't quite put back together, as evidenced by this photo.

· This hotel is located in a major city, and specifically, near a major transit center. If there were books in the bookcase, there'd probably be a few about the iconic architecture that surrounds the hotel.

· Finally, the aforementioned renovations haven't affected the lobby (where this photo was taken) too much: a modest-sized check-in area, lounge, and restaurant remain mostly recognizable, save for some new colors on the walls and furniture, and new lighting.

Well, we think we've been generous enough for now with the clues. Think you know where we're talking about? Say so in the comments below!
