Here Comes A New Base For Your Next Geneva Trip

Go To The Hotel's Web
  Site Where: Nyon, Switzerland
October 22, 2014 at 8:30 AM | by | ()

Oh Switzerland, you keep surprising us! If it’s not chic hostels or hostels with spas, it’s an affordable extended stay brand that is still affordable for shorter stays.

New brand Base will be a cross between a hotel and a serviced apartment – but a good cross. Think large, modern suites (accessed via self check-in) with Hypnos beds, internet TV and floor-to-ceiling windows, plus proper kitchens. The rooftop bar will have views of Lake Geneva and the Alps, there’s a fitness center and Italian restaurant, and guests will also have free use of bicycles (or Base Bikes as they call them). Planning to return? They’ll give you a “Base Box” to store your belongings/papers/drinks until next time. For free.

The first Base will be in Nyon, outside Geneva. It’s being “sustainably constructed” right now, and will have eco cred too – solar panels, triple glazing, and no chemicals will be used during cleaning. It’s due to open October 2015.

Site Where: 33, Quai des Bergues, Geneva, Switzerland, 1201
July 24, 2013 at 9:17 AM | by | ()

If we told you Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva first opened its doors 179 years ago (in 1834, to be exact), would you expect to find such modern design like the above inside? Probably not, but while the majority of its 115 rooms are indeed more classique, the hotel now offers something different with 18 new Loft-style accommodations.

The renovation has transformed the entire top floor of the hotel, which will have a new Spa – with rooftop pool! – opening in September. Izumi, a new Japanese restaurant, will spill out onto the rooftop terrace with views of Lake Geneva and the Swiss mountains. While they were at it, Four Seasons added four (four) new Presidential Suites, bringing the total to five.

Swissôtel Unveils Its First Signature Rooms at the Métropole

Site Where: 34 Quai General Guisan, Geneva, Switzerland, 1204
March 15, 2013 at 12:29 PM | by | ()

Swissôtels has recently revealed the first of its new “signature rooms” at Geneva's Swissôtel Métropole in the city's shopping and business quarter and close to the Old Town. Twelve rooms in total have been renovated for the launch of this category that focuses on design and comfort, with some pretty nifty tech advances, too.

Naturally, being a Swiss brand, the design follows an alpine motif as inspiration, including parquet wood floors and--the show stopper--a colorful wall that's reminiscent of Swiss Alp mountain flowers. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? The exclusive wallpapers for this scene were designed for the hotel by renowned Swiss textile manufacturer Jakob Schlaepfer, who supplies luxury fashion houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Vivienne Westwood with material goods.

Then there's the good stuff for hotel tech geeks out there.

The World’s Most Expensive Hotel Suite Is In…

Go To The Hotel's Web
Site Where: 47, Quai Wilson, Geneva, Switzerland
November 9, 2012 at 11:49 AM | by | ()

After the world’s most expensive dress, and one of the (if not the) most expensive spa treatments, the world’s most expensive hotel suite seemed like the appropriate topic for this week’s Fantasy Friday. With a total of 1680 square meters (an astounding 18,000 square feet) and 12 (twelve!) en-suite bedrooms, this suite is larger than most homes.

Eagle-eyed readers will have spotted a hint of the location based on the distant view of the Jet d’Eau – one of Geneva’s landmarks, and the home of Hotel President Wilson, where you can find this “Royal Penthouse”, occupying its entire top floor. And yes, that is James Bond staring at you from a 103-inch B&O television.

Let's continue dreaming, shall we?

The Dorchester Collection Has a New Sibling in Geneva While The Ritz-Carlton Heads to Oman

July 1, 2011 at 3:00 PM | by | ()

Before you check out of work and into your hotel for the long weekend (woot!), here are some luxury hotel news to be aware of.

First up, the Dorchester Collection has decided that seven hotels catering to crazy celebs is simply not enough. So they adopted an eighth property in Geneva, Switzerland--Le Richemond Hotel, previously a Rocco Forte hotel. Hotels Mag reports:

Le Richemond will undergo a refurbishment of its public areas, including the restaurant and bar, as well as its guest suites. The hotel will remain open during the project.

The Le Richemond will officially reopen as a Dorchester Collection hotel in August. Another bonus? We see a little tidbit on the 45 Park Lane hotel in London which will now open in September.
