New Residence Inn Midtown East Names Cat Cora "Mom of the Year"
Somehow a new Residence Inn opened in NYC on March 1st, and we heard not a whisper about it, until we were invited to their grand opening last week. The day happened to coincide with the brands third annual "Resident Mom of the Year" celebration, which always occurs near Mother's Day.
Sister hotel Residence Inn Times Square usually hosts this event (the first honor went to Holly Robinson Peete), however, this was an opportunity to showcase the new, 211-room Midtown hotel.
So, who was bestowed the honor of spokeswoman for Residence Inn's, all-suite, family-friendly properties? None other than Iron Chef, tv-host, and mama extraordinaire, Cat Cora.
Cat dazzled the crowd with her cute southern twang, warm personality, and ability to convince the crowd that cooking quinoa, stir fry, and parfaits is simple as pie in the hotel's kitchen.

Hilton's New(ish) Campaign Aims To Gain More Gay Customers
In the important quest for the mighty "pink-dollar", the folks over at Hilton have introduced a creative way of attracting more gay and lesbian travelers to check-in to their hotels. Last week, the company re-launched a campaign to turn a few heads when it comes to same-sex relationships.
Hilton originally started the program in 2012, but have added more hotels and revamped the offering; the package will include perks like complimentary internet, two welcome drinks, late checkout and a full-year digital subscription to OUT magazine. Of course nothing says 'gay' like free WiFi and booze, right? Pfft. But hey, we'll take it. An effort is being made.
With a slogan like "Stay Hilton...Go Out", the brand plans to pull in the reservations by sponsoring some major gay-themed events around the world. From Chicago's North Halsted Marketdays to San Fran Pride, the chain is slapping their name on various gay events. Along with the sponsorship, they've created a gay newsletter highlighting major gay global events like Amsterdam Pride and Sydney Mardi Gras.

Palm Springs' New Skylark Hotel Is As Gay As It Gets
If you're familiar with Camp Palm Springs—the clothing-optional resort where guests get super naked for some random meet and greets—then a) shame on you! and b) you should know it's no longer in operation. It's now Skylark Hotel, featuring 28 contemporary rooms, a large pool, shamrock-shaped hot tub and an al fresco bar. Oh, and the cruising is still 24-7 but only clothed (nothing but a jockstrap counts, we think).
You'll notice the gay themes haven't changed much (gay owners, gay clientele, gay staff, gay magazines in rooms) but heteros are welcome. All rooms look out into the central pool area, so whether you're voyeuristic or egotistic, everyone wins. Except uncomfortable heteros.

The Video of The Plaza's First Gay Wedding

Back in June, The Plaza, whose neoclassical Grand Ballroom is one of the most expensive, lavish, and coveted hotel wedding venues in all the land, hosted its first-ever-in-106-years gay wedding. Now, you can witness Jay & Tony's ceremony for yourself in all its fabulous -- and in many ways, quite traditional--glory (heck, it is The Plaza!).
Here's the recently released wedding video, shot by John Armendariz of NewYorkFilmworks. We love how it starts off with a chuckle as the priest awkwardly stutters, "Well, it's a little unusual for me to be the only one in white at one of these things!".
But we warn you, have a tissue in hand--this one's a tearjerker!

All Inclusive: Hyatt Named Top Place to Work for LGBT Equality
Where: Hyatt Hotels, Various Locations

A myriad of obstacles have plagued LGBT travelers over the past decades, situations on the road when things didn’t feel quite right. We’re talking awkward moments at check in when same-sex couples ask for one bed, weird looks after romantic embraces – incidents that have made travel discouraging at times for the nomadic souls of LGBT travelers.
You can find horror stories around every corner, but we’re pretty sure you aren’t going to hear many complaints involving a stay at a Hyatt. For the ninth consecutive year, the hotel chain was honored for its LGBT love, earning a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index and named one of the best places to work for LGBT equal opportunity by the Human Rights Campaign, America’s largest LGBT civil rights organization.
Protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, parity of health care benefits for domestic partners, diversity training, internal resources for LGBT workers, and external support for the LGBT community were all areas in which Hyatt received a 100% rating.

W Vieques Is Hosting Its Own Gay & Lesbian Short Film Fest

There's been a few hotels this week that haven't been very accommodating to the GLBT crowd but down in Puerto Rico, it's a much warmer scene, in more ways than one.
That's because the W Retreat & Spa, Vieques is hosting its own short film festival from May 13–15. W Happenings Presents: Out On Film will feature screenings of award-winning gay and lesbian short flicks--and parties to go with them, natch.
The resort partnered with The Puerto Rico Film Foundation and CineFiesta, the Puerto Rico International Short Film Festival, on this latest artsy endeavor, emphasizing the laidback, creative vibe the island of Vieques seems so infused with.

Artist-in-Residence Moves Into Cha Cha Rooster At Lords South Beach

Now we know what 'ultra-gay hotel', Lords South Beach looks like (A: yellow); the next question to tackle is: what does it sound like? After this weekend at the hotel's awesomely named Cha Cha Rooster, we believe the answer is: jazzy and fabulous.
Friday and Saturday nights saw the debut of a new monthly dinner and performance series at the hotel, where a different artist-in-residence will do two shows each night, one at 8:30 p.m. and one at 10 p.m.
