Loyalty Program News :: Choice Hotels Now Offering $250 in Gas Money
Where: United States
Over the summer, Choice Hotels enticed members of their Choice Privileges rewards program with $50 gas cards.
This fall, with gas prices hovering around $4 per gallon (and spikes whenever hurricanes loom), they're bringing out the big guns, with an offer of $250 in gas cards. Even at current prices, that's enough to make everyone from Smart car drivers to SUV owners take notice.
Don't get excited too quickly though - they're not handing this reward out like penny candy. Here's how it works:
After every third stay at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion and Cambria Suites brand hotels throughout the United States, Choice Privileges members will receive enough points to redeem for a free $50 gas card. Consumers can earn this reward up to five times, for a total of $250 in gas cards, for stays with arrival from September 1 through November 30, 2008.
So you'd have to stay 15 times between now and the end of November to max out on the reward. Sounds like road warriors only need apply. You'll have until Feb 28, 2009 to use your gas card though we don't think that will be a problem! You must book at choicehotels.com or call 800.4CHOICE to qualify for the promotion.

Gas Package Spotted :: The Palazzo Las Vegas
The Palazzo Las Vegas is offering a pretty generous gas package that may end up putting money in your wallet (before your hot little gambling hands totally drain it, of course).
All summer long, the hotel will reimburse your gas purchases up to $100 upon check-in (bring your receipt!). They're also offering "exclusive suite upgrade specials," which seem to be slight discounts on room upgrades.
On top of all that, you'll also score a $25.00 gaming credit for the casino.
Well, that's Vegas for you. They don't care much about how the hell you get there or what you're paying for your room as long as you'll gamble.
Book your by July 7th; reservations can be made here. Use promo code EPGAS08.

Gas Package Spotted :: Hilton San Diego Del Mar

The Hilton San Diego Del Mar has a Gas Package going on for summer travelers.
The Gas and Go package gives guests a gas gift card for $25, free self-parking, and breakfast buffet for two.
The cost is $30 more than the best available rate which hovers around $180 a night and does not normally include breakfast.
For some reason, we always thought self-parking was free at hotels, but that was probably just in our fantasy hotel land. At the Hilton San Diego Del Mar it costs $14 to self-park, so this is a nice bit of savings.

Gas Package Spotted: Houston Hotel's 'So Tank Full' Package

The Alden-Houston Hotel in Houston is offering a silly-named gas package called the "So Tank Full" that includes deluxe room accomodations for one night, overnight valet parking and a $50 gas card. If you upgrade to a suite you get a $75 gas card.
The price for a deluxe room is $179 and the price of a suite is $229. Taxes not included.
Once you get to the Alden-Houston, you probably won't even need your car. The hotel is four blocks from Minute Maid Park, six blocks from Downtown's new Discovery Green and the Theatre District, and just one block from the Metro Light Rail which can take you wherever else you need to go in town.

Gas Packages Weekend Round-Up

With the national gas price average inching even closer to $4.00 (AAA reports today it's at $3.96), gas packages/rebates/gift cards are hugely popular this season, as we've already noticed. Here's a wrap-up of some more gas packages to take with you this weekend.
· Hermitage Hotel: The Nashville Biz Journal reports that this downtown luxury hotel is offering guests a "Luxury Road Trip Getaway." Included is a free $25 gas card for each of the first two nights' stay plus a $40 discount on the hotel's standard room rate. Hybrid car owners/drivers get free valet parking on the first night which saves you another $24.
· Bookit.com: This online travel agency is offering guests either half-price gas or free flight credits, both up to $200. The promotion is part of the site's Travel Stimulus program which has been in effect since April.
· Expedia: Expedia just launched their gas package but it's already been popular enough to extend until the end of June. You must book three or more weeknights at a select hotel for stays until August 31, 2008.
· Algonquin Hotel: This historic hotel is offering guests who drive into the city 15 percent off room rates now through June 30, 2008.

Gas Package Spotted: Holiday Inn Sacramento Northeast
You know how your local news is always rounding up the cheapest and the most expensive gas stations in your area? We're doing the same thing except with Hotel Gas Packages. Seen a gas package? Let us know.
This gas package was found by HotelChatter reader Steve at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Northeast which is right off the I-80. A convenient place for a gas package indeed.
AAA GASOLINE PACKAGE: Enjoy a deluxe guest room and receive one 25 dollar gasoline card for every night that you stay with us.
72-hour advance reservations are required. AAA card must be presented upon check in. Name on card must match the name on the reservation.
The gas package cannot be combined with other offers but it is valid way beyond summer until December 31. If you're not a AAA member, don't sweat it. The hotel is also offering a Free Gasoline package which is the same deal as above and the $25 card is good for Shell gas stations.
However, buyer beware. The rooms under the AAA package start at $149 a night, while the "Free Gasoline" packages start at $164 a night. We definitely failed math more than once in our lifetime but we think that difference is about $15 right? So it's really only about a $10 savings on gas if you aren't a AAA member. Regular room rates start at $126 a night. Tricky Holiday Inn.

Loyalty Program News :: Get Gas at Choice Hotels
The Summer of Gas Packages shows no signs of stopping. This time the offers are coming from Choice Hotels.
It's a little bit more complex than just booking a room and getting a gas gift card. It requires joining the hotel group's loyalty program Choice Privileges. Once you do that, here's where the offer comes in.
Choice Privileges rewards program members who book their stay at choicehotels.com or 800.4CHOICE this summer and stay three separate times, with arrival between June 1 and August 14, will be eligible to receive a $50 gas card.
After each third qualifying stay at any Choice brand hotel in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, Choice Privileges members will receive enough bonus points on top of the points for their three stays to reach 16,000 points, which can be redeemed at any time for a $50 gas card or other rewards.
Ok, that's way more complex. You need to stay three separate times at a Choice Hotel this summer which should earn you enough points for a gas card. It's not the easiest gas card package out there but if you are a frequent Choice Hotels guest (Comfort Inns, Clarions, Quality Inns), you might like this perk.

Hotels.com Wants To Give You Gas Money Too
It's the season of Gas Packages! Anyone looking to take a road trip should be able to find plenty of gas rebates at hotels this summer.
Individual hotels are doing them. So are hotel chains and booking sites like Expedia.com.
Now Hotels.com wants to pump you up. The booking site has announced its Summer Drive and Save program which gives bookers a $50 gas card for each booking of three nights or more.
But don't think Hotels.com is late to the game. This is the fourth consecutive summer that the site has offered a gas program.
To qualify, you must book a hotel stay before July 6, 2008. The stay must be for travel through September 1, 2008. Three nights minimum is required. There is no limit on the gas cards as long as the minimum stay requirement is met for each booking.

Expedia Gets in on the Gas Card Game

It's not just individual hotels that are offering special Gas Rebates. Now Expedia is getting in on the game.
All travelers have to do is book three or more nights at a select hotel by this Friday, and they'll receive a $50 gas card.
The Expedia site has a list of suggestions for road-trippin' hotels like the Kona Kai resort in San Diego; the Hotel ZaZa in Houston, and the Hotel Blake in Chicago.
The gas card actually comes in a prepaid Mastercard that is redeemable at almost any gas station but must be used by August 31, 2008. Travel also must be booked by this Friday, May 16 and stays must be completed by September 30th.
