Big Drop NYC Opens Up Shop at Gansevoort South
October 1, 2008 at 3:31 PM | 0 Comments
Here's something different for the Gansevoort South: good news! New York City's trendy boutique chain Big Drop opened their first store outside of NYC, inside the Gansevoort's lower level.
Since the hotel opened earlier this spring, it has seen a lion's share of hiccups and setbacks, but won't you feel better staying there knowing that you can buy a Tracy Reese caftan at any hour?
The boutique's personal shopping service "Everything But Your Toothbrush," allows socialites short on time to call with their size and agenda. Big Drop will then play stylist by hand selecting pieces to send to your room for approval. For once, this will also include dudes as Big Drop Miami debuts a men's section.
Of course this addition will appeal most to the scene-hopping New Yorkers who are perpetually swiping their credit cards, but then isn't that the demographic everyone aims for during rough times such as these?

Miami Hotel Mambo :: Cranespotting From the Gansevoort South Rooftop
August 19, 2008 at 4:30 PM | 0 Comments
There's been a whole lotta drama out on the Gansevoort South's rooftop pool in Miami. Crappy conditions for extras on a TV show shoot. Criminals workin' the sushi bar. And oh, yes: a fire.
But just as we were about to write it off, reader F. dropped a couple of photos of his experience on the Gansevoort South rooftop into the HotelChatter Facebook Page's fan photo album.
And the view looks... cranelicious. Granted, the photo was taken in June, so we're not totally sure that all those cranes are still there -- so we've included another one of F's Gansevoort rooftop pics after the jump (from a different part of the roof). Enjoy!

Miami Hotel Mambo: Hotel Gansevoort Delayed Until March?
December 3, 2007 at 12:38 PM | 0 Comments

We previously reported that the Hotel Gansevoort South in Miami Beach would open around February 15th but commenter granddesign, who lives and works in Miami, said the hotel won't open until March now.
We checked the G'voort website and saw they were still accepting reservations for February 15th. Although if this opening did get pushed back to March we wouldn't be that surprised, considering all the construction we saw over there the other week. If anything, we bet the hotel will open a few rooms with the public spaces and pool to come later.

Hotel Gansevoort South To Open February 15th, Maybe Later
November 27, 2007 at 9:30 AM | 1 Comment

Two weeks we ago, we just happened to be driving by the Hotel Gansevoort South in Miami Beach and we noticed that the hotel still had some construction left. Of course it was nothing like the W South Beach next door which was in bad shape but we were surprised to see the front entrance of Gansevoort still fenced off with tons of junk behind it.
And then a commenter tipped us off that the hotel would open after February 15 and not January 28th as was initially planned. Sorry folks if you were planning an early February escape to the Gansevoort South. Hope you can reschedule your vacation days.
Now in this hotel gig of ours, we are learning that construction generally blows and nothing ever seems to go as planned. But the Gansevoort folk better open this place soon as they will be missing out on valuable "in season" customers.

Breaking News: Gansevoort South to Open at the End of January
October 18, 2007 at 11:54 AM | 4 Comments

We've finally got official word from the peeps at Gansevoort South in Miami Beach that the long-awaited hotel will open this January. Naturally we wanted to know exactly what day and upon checking the website, we found rooms open starting January 28th. So it's the end of January but January nonetheless.
While there's not much that we don't know about the hotel, we were tickled by the descriptions of the 334 hotel rooms:
Hotel rooms are accented with splashes of hot pink against charcoal gray suede walls, providing an understated backdrop for custom-designed tables, sofas, lounge chairs, oversized mirrors and polished wood headboards.
Hot pink and charcoal gray? Did someone turn back the time to 1987? While the room pics don't look quite how we first pictured them (our initial mental image involved some Benetton 012 clothes), that is a lot of hot pink in one room.
More details on the Gansevoort South, after the jump.

Gansevoort South Not Exactly Getting Love from the Locals
January 24, 2007 at 2:26 PM | 1 Comment

Unless defacing a billboard with the words "Slut", "I would hit it" and indecipherable gang tags is what Miami locals consider love. And of course we already mentioned their disdain for "Calvinization."
We'll see how people respond when Gansevoort South opens sometime later this year.

Gansevoort South: "Calviniezation" Almost Complete
December 11, 2006 at 11:08 AM | 0 Comments

A while back we prognosticated that Hotel Gansevoort South, aka Paradiso Miami, would be opened in late 2007, early 2008. That being said, after seeing the facility first hand last week we would like to revise our prediction up a bit. Yeah, how rare is that, however, not only is the huge construction crew working non-stop on the massive project but the crew is also making loads of progress. The outer shell looks pretty much done, save a palm tree top here and there. Furthermore, some decent progress is being made on the interior and exterior grounds.
With all the South Beach hotel delays and non-starters (Hi Nicky!) it is nice to see a project that outwardly appears ahead of schedule. Though it doesn't appear the locals are so keen on the market breed the Gansevoort is promising on their ad curtains--check out the photo--what is getting "Calviniezed"?.
To date, the Gansevoort South crew has been very coy about opening dates, meaning we haven't heard anyone drop an opening date yet. Could it possibly open for Super Bowl weekend? Probably not, but stay tuned.
Read more for another photo or two, and there are plenty more progress photos over on the brand new Gansevoort South hotel page.

Miami Hotels Opening Report: Gansevoort South
October 30, 2006 at 9:05 AM | 3 Comments

The Miami South Beach hotel scene is blowing up and it's not all about Nicky O. This week we are taking a look at some of the planned hotels for Miami which includes hotels for which construction has begun and hotels which still remain a pipe dream. If you have any tips about South Beach hotels that you wanna share with us, send 'em down.
The plans for a Hotel Gansevoort South were announced way back when in November 2005 but so far, nothing but a bunch of renderings has materialized.
The hotel is set to be built within a luxury apartment building on Collins Avenue, called, Paradiso Miami. There will be 232 rooms, a teak roof deck and a tri-level beach club with "cabanas and fire pits at night."
When it finally opens (see projected dates below), the place will give bridge and tunnel crowd who visit the Gansevoort in NYC a place to stay in the winter. Although, we seriously hope this hotel has higher aspirations for itself.
Projected Hotel Opening Date:There has never been a clear opening date, but it was rumored to open late 2006/early 2007.
What we think: Late 2007/Early 2008.

Hotel Gansevoort South: Early Look
November 30, 2005 at 11:38 AM | 1 Comment

Nothing to see here, keep moving.
Aside from the advertising in Ocean Drive Magazine, the only peek we could get of Hotel Gansevoort South was from the outside.
The building is absolutely massive. This project dwarfs Hotel Gansevoort New York, and it will be interesting to see if these folks can pull off a giant CoTel slash resort in Miami Beach.
For now, it is just a lot of scaffolding and artist rendered drawings.
By the way, does HK hotels still own Gansevoort? The property no longer shows up on the HK site.

Hotel Gansevoort South: Web Site Up
November 3, 2005 at 9:43 AM | 0 Comments

An story arrived in our inbox titled, "Gansevoort getting a huge one down south." So of course, we checked it out.
This tipster let us know the latest on Hotel Gansevoort South, which is coming to Collins Ave down in Miami sometime "late next year."
a 112ft. rooftop pool with 28,000 sqft. of roof deck (sorry still no room for paparazzi). Not to mention a beach club including a second pool.
Plus, as we found out earlier this year, there will be a second infinity edge ocean view pool surrounded by a 12,000-square-foot teak pool deck, a 31,000-square-foot spa and fitness center; a full city block of shops, and condos for sale in the property.
No doubt we will watch this one closely.
