Abu Dhabi's Yas Hotel is Looking More Phallic Than Ever
There are so many jokes we can make about a hotel shaped as the Yas in Abu Dhabi is, but we won't. Because we're classy like that. Regardless, we can't help but see the hotel's resemblance yet again to twigs and berries.
This snapshot comes from a full-page ad for Abu Dhabi, placed in one of the several seatback in-flight magazines on British Airways. It depicts a man (a well-manicured man) driving a boat (a well-manicured boat) head-on towards the hotel.
If you're not yet familiar with the Yas Hotel, it's the closest property to the new Formula One theme park. Perhaps the shape of the hotel is intentional, to reinforce the masculinity of the attraction? We're not so sure, but we are pretty positive that there are other angles this hotel could have been photographed from.

The Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi Reminds Us of Twigs and Berries

Everyone often jokes that the Cooper Square Hotel in New York looks like a giant glass vibrator but this new hotel in Abu Dhabi has actually one-upped Cooper Square and with blinking lights too!
According to the Gizmodo tech blog, the just completed Yas Hotel has a massive canopy consisting of 5,000-odd LEDs and glass panels, which can reportedly change color and play low-res video. It's actually being categorized as the world's largest LED project. Which all sounds fine and good, except at this angle it looks like a giant penis. (Sorry, we can't mince words here. That's what it looks like.)
Even worse, the 500-room luxury hotel covers a Formula 1 race track making it the pit stop for all things testosterone-y. All it needs now is a garage for the Ambiguously Gay Duo's car.

Abu Dhabi Nears the Finish Line With Their Racetrack-Side Hotel
Remember when we hinted at Abu Dhabi's plan to compete with Dubai's entertainment by building themselves a Ferrari Theme Park, F1 racetrack and track-side hotel? Well, they've actually gone and started the thing; at least the hotel. The structure of it is complete, and currently the construction workers are hemming the glass cloak that will give the building a modular look (one that that reminds us of the Olympiapark in Munich).
The Yas, which will be the world's first five-star Formula One trackside hotel, is a monster with 500 rooms and a marina for docking your megayacht. All of this capped by the pivoting, diamond-shaped glass panels of the roof, which will produce "optical effects and spectral reflections that play against the surrounding sky, sea and desert landscape."
