If you don't have a house already hooked up in the Hamptons with 10 other people, there are some hotel options on the island. But one you might want to avoid is the Oceanside Beach Resort in Montauk.
Flickr member Andrea F. Lee posted this pretty picture of the place but with a not-so-pretty review:
Erm, not totally recommended, although the location of the place is decent relative to the "center" of town. The remote didn't work, the furniture didn't match, the phone book was non-existent, and the walls were super-thin. Eh, whatever...
Another thing to note is that even though this place calls itself a "resort", its website is MontaukMotel.com. Then again, when was the last time a motel had room rates ranging from $225 for a first-floor queen to $450 for a Jacuzzi suite?
Flickr member gladiolaroot gives one of those short, to the point, Flickr caption reviews where we learn just enough about The Times Hotel in Amsterdam, a small canal side hotel:
Cute green room at the Times Hotel, on Herengracht in Amsterdam. That little door is the closet. The ceiling was very high and the paint treatment was cute. The poster on the wall is a Van Gogh. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
The hotel can be had for around $250 a night.
HotelChatter Tip:
If you want to try and add a star to your stay, try one of the canalside rooms, where you will look out over the canal instead of at your Van Gogh poster. Room 451 on the top floor offers sweeping canal views.
Flickr member vanderwal gives one of those short, to the point, Flickr reviews where we learn just enough about a Brighton's Blanch House Hotel:
It was a great place to stay, if it had WiFi or even wired broadband it would have been perfect (Sidewinder's pub around the corner had wifi and decent menu). Blanch House has a killer bar.
Almost a tease, isn't it?
Tip: If you want to impress your significant other, and you two are open to middle of the room whirlpool baths, check into the Galaxy Room--a luxe room inspired by Galaxy Chocolate.
