The Ultimate Survival Guide to The Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island
Bad-ass player pictured here can be found with his friends in the Atlantis Predator Lagoon
For those who have never been to Atlantis on Paradise Island, the sprawling megaresort can be daunting.
Like Disney World, there is nothing quite like it anywhere in the world. And like DisneyWorld, Atlantis has the power to strike fear in the hearts and minds of parents who shudder the thought of wearing adult mouse ears almost as much as they dread hemorrhaging endless streams of cash.
To complicate matters, Atlantis is hard to describe as it's so many different things rolled into one: a gorgeous five-hotel Caribbean island resort, a 140-acre Aquaventure water park, the largest open-air marine exhibit in the world complete with dolphin and seal habitats, countless beaches and pools, a casino, a true culinary scene with restaurants from Bobby Flay and Nobu Matsuhisa, a seriously pimpin’ marina, and more.
All the confusion can make it hard to wrap your head around a visit. Where should you stay? How should you spend your day? What’s awesome and what’s overrated? How expensive will it be? Is there a shred of hope for some adult downtime or is it a kid bonanza all day all the time? You might be tempted to throw in the towel.
Just back from a recent visit, we thought it was time—at long last—to demystify the epic resort. The ins and outs, the highs and lows, and every reason why we’ll be back, slide wedgie and all; find it here in our Atlantis Survival Guide.

New Residence Inn Midtown East Names Cat Cora "Mom of the Year"
Somehow a new Residence Inn opened in NYC on March 1st, and we heard not a whisper about it, until we were invited to their grand opening last week. The day happened to coincide with the brands third annual "Resident Mom of the Year" celebration, which always occurs near Mother's Day.
Sister hotel Residence Inn Times Square usually hosts this event (the first honor went to Holly Robinson Peete), however, this was an opportunity to showcase the new, 211-room Midtown hotel.
So, who was bestowed the honor of spokeswoman for Residence Inn's, all-suite, family-friendly properties? None other than Iron Chef, tv-host, and mama extraordinaire, Cat Cora.
Cat dazzled the crowd with her cute southern twang, warm personality, and ability to convince the crowd that cooking quinoa, stir fry, and parfaits is simple as pie in the hotel's kitchen.

Cute, or Creepy? Grosvenor House Builds A Nursery For Kate Middleton's Baby

Places like The Goring, The Stafford and Park Plaza Hotels were all quick to join in the royal wedding mania that took place two summers ago, but here's one hotel that seems to be starting a new trend: royal baby mania.
London's Grosvenor House has chosen to re-decorate one of its Premium Park suites in anticipation of Kate Middleton and Prince William's firstborn. Not that, like, the baby is actually planning to stay there (at this moment, it can't even digest its own food, so we don't see how it could be making hotel reservations…), but, you know, just in case.
"Suite Dreams" is a fully-equipped nursery, with a luxurious four-poster crib, hand-painted furniture, Beatrix Potter-inspired designs, and a children's play area with a London-themed toy cupboard.
The whole thing is pretty impressive, actually, though no surprise there, as Daily Mail tells us the suite was actually designed by Dragons of Walton Street, a studio that's created nurseries for the Royal Family in the past.

Hot Mommas! Bikini Clad Celebrity Moms' Family Vacation Spots

Who says family vacations can be stressful? For these three famous mothers, getaways look effortless. Sure, they've probably got help, but you too can have a great time if you pick the right resort. That means choosing a place with a great kids' program, child-friendly foods, and of course, a pool or beach.
If you have all these things in place and you're pretty much guaranteed to have a good time. What we can't guarantee? That you'll look as STUNNING as these three mommas do, post-partum. What's their secret? We're dying to know and crazed with jealousy.
This past weekend, after a court date with soon-to-be ex-husband Jason Hoppy, Bethenny Frankel hopped on a Miami-bound plane with daughter Bryn. The two had a girl’s getaway at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. The super-svelt Frankel (clad in skimpy bikinis and a silk Ramy Brook cover up) seemed to forget her marital woes, and had a ball with her Cheetos and Pop Chip-munching two-year old, who wore a super cute pink polka-dot wetsuit and matching goggles.

The Mark Pairs Up with MacLaren for Fashionable Hotel Stroller

Don't pretend you haven't noticed. There are pregnant women and babies everywhere you look. It's like a walking advertisement of "I know what YOU DID LAST FALL!". We pretend to coo and smile at your love bugs and belly, but we're really smirking, you nasty thangs, you!
Still, for those of us who have babies and toddlers to schlepp around, the number one pain-in-the-ass is the stroller. (The car seat gets a close second). It's all, folding, un-folding, lugging, latching, and then the folding again. And that's for a basic model. We're counting down the days until we never have to travel with a stroller again. (We've got about 600 or so to go.)
Mercifully, hotels are starting to come to our rescue by offering strollers for guests to use during their stay.
And in Manhattan, The Mark on the Upper East Side has upped the ante by pairing up with high-end stroller brand, MacLaren, to create a super stylish Mark Hotel Baby Stroller that's done up in the Mark's signature black and white stripes. This stroller is Bergdorf and Madison Avenue shopping ready.

'Key West' to be Newest Village at Beaches Turks and Caicos
Where: Lower Bight Rd, Turks and Caicos

We pumped up its waterpark and appeal to children in our , but now the family-oriented Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa is continuing its expansion, opening a new Key West Luxury Village on May 22nd, just in time for the summer-vacation set.
The new area will join the already existing Caribbean, French, and Italian villages, and add approximately 150 rooms, suites, and villas along with three additional restaurants. Given the three other themes, one thing that jumps out is that 'Key West' is a pretty specific location.
If Beaches Turks & Caicos keeps this up, it'll be the Caribbean version of Dubailand in no time. They opened the Italian Village in 2009 and the French in 2000. Beaches said families are still its target with Key West's multi-bedroom villas that "can accommodate growing families, multi-generational travel, and trends of friends vacationing together with their family."
Here are a few first-glimpse photos of the new Key West Village.

UK Novotels Ready For Rainy Season With Toy Chests
Where: Various Hotels , United Kingdom
If you have ever stayed in a hotel with children, you can only pray that the weather is nice enough to ensure the kids are not cooped up inside and, ultimately, annoying any and all adults in the hotel. Novotel UK comes to the rescue with special Rainy Day Toy Chests overflowing with toys to keep everyone from going stir-crazy.
All 30 Novotel properties across the UK, understand the weather can sometimes be grey and rainy ruining excursion plans. That's why they partnered with Hasbroto supply the toy chest in their family rooms with My Little Ponies and Transformers to keep the kiddies entertained during inclement weather. And just to ease the entire family's frustration, the chests also have family boardgames and active games to tire the little ones out.
Along with the toys, children stay free (breakfast included!) when accompanying parents or grandparents. If a shared room is too close for comfort, the hotels will offer a 50% discount on adjacent rooms for those under 16. This along with in-room Cartoon Network and video games and it sounds like Novotel has a winning combo for families.

Guess the Hotel Revealed: Vision Quest Ranch in CA. Not Africa!

Elephants, zebra, water buffalo and ostrich roam the play pen surrounded by bungalows at Vision Quest Ranch
Last week we tried to stump you with another game of Guess the Hotel, sharing a photo of an elephant who had joined us for breakfast off our porch at Vision Quest Ranch B&B. We figured you'd assume an African lodge and never an exotic wild animal retreat in Salinas, California, but doggonit, you done figured it out in less than 24 hours in one correct reply. Right on, hotel smarty pants!
We shared a full report about a year ago when we recommended you Please Feed the Animals at Vision Quest Ranch B&B, but visited again recently as we were dying to bring the kids along and also wanted to check on rumors of a new, onsite zoo.

Hilton Opens First All-Inclusive Resort in Puerto Vallarta

Today Mexico adds yet another all-inclusive resort to its hotel inventory with the opening of the Hilton Puerto Vallarta Resort. It’s Hilton’s first one-price-pays-for-all property in Mexico.
Right in the heart of PVs Hotel Zone near the Bay of Banderas, this Hilton is pretty modest in size with just 259 rooms and suites, which makes it less overwhelming than other resorts of its kind in the region.
Guests won't go hungry thanks to the four a la carte dining restaurants on site serving international cuisine, fine Mexican foods, French fare, and Brazilian churrasco. Plus, snacks are available at the La Bonita deli, and the beach-bar serving up cocktails and light bites.

Pink Power! Barbie's Cruisin' to Costa Rica's DoubleTree by Hilton

You know we're the biggest kids at HotelChatter. We see rooms intentionally designed for children and we get all pouty and think "we want that, tooooo!". But alas, we're big kids now, some with little tykes of our own, so we get our thrills when we see things like this--the new Barbie Room at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cariari in San Jose, in Costa Rica.
We are positively entranced by all the pinkness that is Room 2036. It is filled top-to-bottom with Barbie-themed linens, clothes, costumes, games, dolls, movies and accessories galore. And do not ask about Ken. This is not about Ken!
Through Nov. 11, 2012, kids can spend the night in the Barbie room for only $139 per night (two-night minimum), and includes breakfast for two children. The room is attached to connecting parents room which starts at a rate of $109 per night for a king-size bed. And yes, you have to purchase the parents room, too.
