View Faceoff: Wynn vs. Encore Las Vegas

Where: Las Vegas, NV
January 23, 2009 at 4:59 PM | by Jenna | 1 Comment

Reader D. was kind enough to send over a couple of window snapshots from his recent stays at both the Wynn Las Vegas and Wynn's younger sister (she's a newborn, really) Encore Las Vegas so we could assess which one was more viewlicious. And maybe it's just the Friday afternoon anything-looks-better-than-a-desk syndrome, but they both look pretty killer to us.

But please, judge for yourself. Here's the Wynn's golf course view:

And check out Encore's view of the strip:

We think both views are perfectly lovely, and we maintain that the competition is fair: the Encore view is from room #5526, and the golf course view comes from Wynn's room #5524. The rooms (as far as we know) are similar — but the killer view is in the eye of the beholder.

Our Take On Encore Las Vegas

Back in the spring of 2005, Steve Wynn reclaimed his title as King of the Strip with the opening of Wynn Las Vegas. Bloggers chattered, reviewers raved, and Andy Garcia even tried to put some parody of the Wynn opening in one of those Clooney Ocean's movies, didn't he? In any event, back then it was all about the Wynn pool.

Fast forward almost four years and Wynn is back, with his long planned second tower hotel called Encore Las Vegas. Times have changed since the frothy economic days of 2005, so where does that leave Wynn and his new tower? Well, we paid the King a visit and stayed in a Panoramic Suite room to get a good long look for ourselves.

Danny Gans Apparently Still Relevant

May 9, 2008 at 3:20 PM | by pbb | 2 Comments

The Wynn Las Vegas will be losing its banner Broadway show this summer, when Spamalot goes dark in July after a 15-month run. What epic entertainment can possibly replace the Tony Award-winning musical? Uh, apparently, Danny Gans.

When the impressionist moves in, the theater will be re-branded as part of Encore Las Vegas, the hotel's attached expansion property.

This isn't the only hotel show shakeup we've heard about either. Criss Angel is slated to do a Cirque du Soliel show at the Luxor, and another Cirque production could be on the way to one of Wynn's Vegas hotels.

Snapshot :: Steve Wynn's Encore is Almost Ready

April 22, 2008 at 5:08 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Speaking of Las Vegas pools, this is the view that we had poolside at the Palazzo. Ok, so we zoomed in a lot but still, this snapshot got us all excited about Encore Las Vegas, Steve Wynn's follow-up to his namesake property.

On the outside the tower looks exactly the same. And inside we doubt things will vary that much, except that Wynn has plans to add five more restaurants, 11 more retail outlets and a new spa and salon.

Let's just hope people will still have money to spend in Vegas when Encore opens sometime in December 2008.

Wynn's Encore Suites To Open in December 2008

February 27, 2008 at 5:25 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

One minute we're high: Wynn Encore, the follow up to Steve Wynn's Wynn Las Vegas, will be ready to open December 2008.  And the next minute we're low.

That's like another year away. Ugh. Anyways, here are some detes as to what's inside:

Encore Suites' accommodations are comprised of 2,034 spacious suites that offer a cosmopolitan style and sophistication ensconced in a comfortable, residential feel.

Featuring Resort Suites spanning 700 square feet and VIP Suites measuring up to 5,800 square feet, the resort pampers guests in an atmosphere both intimate and indulgent. Suites are functionally defined by sitting and sleeping areas featuring architectural millwork, chic decor and luxurious amenities.

Additionally, Encore will get  five new signature restaurants (all of which will undoubtedly earn Michelin stars once they open), 11 retail outlets (holy crap!), seven cozy bars and lounges (seven? and define cozy?), an ultra-chic nightclub (better than Tryst?) and a luxurious spa and salon (um yeah, luxurious means "$300 for a blowdry".)

Original price estimates for the hotel were $300-$400 a night back in 2005. We say those are the rates you'll find on a Tuesday. For the weekends, it should be $500 and up.

Wynn Already Plotting Encore

Steve Wynn is still over a month away from opening Wynn Las Vegas, but developer Steve Wynn is so over it already.

According to USA Today, Wynn is expected to reveal plans for a second Las Vegas casino called Encore, later this week.

What we are calling the Wynn killer was originally going to be a hotel tower addition to Wynn Las Vegas, however, now "the hotel addition" will be an independent casino/resort/beast.

Each Encore suite will contain a separate living room and bedroom in a sprawling 1,030 square-foot layout. "When I fill rooms with suite customers, I get a higher-spending customer," said Lord Wynn, who estimated the suites will be priced from $350 to $400 a night.

Some sort of concert hall, equipped with seats that disappear into the floor to reveal a convention center will be included in the Encore plan.

Our heads are spinning. Wynn Las Vegas isn't even open yet, and Lord Wynn is already planning to out do himself by 2008?

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions, right Mr. Wynn?
