DoubleTree by Hilton is Getting 'Active' With its New Toiletries

December 1, 2014 at 11:40 AM | by | Comments (0)

DoubleTree Hotels will be starting the new year in an "active" way--by installing a new toiletry line in all of their hotels called, Aroma Actives.

Previously, DoubleTree carried the Citron line from Crabtree & Eveyln, which they began using in 2011. Before that, DoubleTree used Neutrogena products. #toiletryhistory

Aroma Actives, from London-based Aromatherapy Associates by Geraldine Howard, keeps the natural vibe that DoubleTree has been after since the line is made with natural ingredients and essential oils and promise to "enhance the circulation and boost the radiance and health of the skin." A perfect way to balance out all those DoubleTree cookies you ate at reception perhaps.

The Aroma Actives line at DoubleTree will include body wash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and bar soap. Want to get Active without booking a room at a DoubleTree? You can start following the hotel brand on Instagram at @DoubleTree to enter to win a set.

We Can't Even. The Barbie Themed Hotel Room Returns to The Hilton Buenos Aires

November 6, 2014 at 1:23 PM | by | Comments (0)

First, we go inside a Hello Kitty Suite. Now, we get a look at a Barbie Hotel Room.

Every few years, The Hilton Buenos Aires resurrects its Barbie rooms, much to the delight of little Barbie fans who happen to be traveling through Argentina.

This year, however, the hotel has really gone over the top with the Barbie amenities. For starters, when guests arrive at the hotel, there will be a giant Barbie shoe for photo ops. Guests who actually book the Barbie room (room 136), which was created in partnership with Barbie-maker, Mattel, will get a special dedicated check-in before taking a set of private, pink stairs up to the room.

Once inside, they will find a so-called "Barbie-themed paradise" filled with exclusive Barbie items not found anywhere else, including a changing closet full of fashion accessories and a pink catwalk for impromptu fashion shows. To die for.

We love hotel renovations nearly just as much as we love new hotels. But what we really love about hotel renovations is seeing the transformation that happens when an old, tired and lackluster room gets a modern makeover and transforms into new, spiffed-up, stylish guest room. Or put more simply, we love comparing the Before and After.

For a hotel located across the street from a hospital, you’d think that that the DoubleTree Hilton Boston would have had a facelift sooner. But this month the property announced the completion of an $8.6 million renovation that gave the 267 guest rooms a much needed new look. That's the "Before" picture above. Now brace yourself for the "After" shot below.

Suddenly, Perth is So Hot for Hotels Right Now (But Will It Be Affordable?)

Where: Perth, Australia
April 11, 2014 at 12:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

We first talked about the vintage awesomeness of Terrace Hotel and the gaming paradise of Crown and then the luxury of a Ritz-Carlton, but now even more hotel announcements are coming out of Perth. Australia's fourth largest city is surely the newest hot spot for new properties, major renovations and increased service, but all of this may come at a high price.

Room rates in the west coast city are not cheap. On a recent trip with an overnight stop-over in Perth, we searched high and low for an affordable room that wasn't the Bates Motel. Our efforts turned up a room that was close to the airport (we had an early flight) that set us back $250 for the night. The room was basic; the building, prison-like. We weren't impressed and we wondered what was going on with Perth's hotel scene?

A few weeks ago, we showed you the before and after pics of the Fess Parker's most recent renovation. The revamp ensured that the hotel will remain one of the city's flagship hotels going forward, at least as far as aesthetics go. We love the new rooms, and one thing that hasn't changed is the beautiful ocean and mountain views they provide.

Next week, we'll poke around town and dish on all the hotel news happening around town, including other hotel renovations as well as offerings you can expect from different properties this summer.

For now, enjoy this wonderful view from the hotel's Gardenia Building, and feel free to daydream about the warm California sun as we transition into spring.

As the site of a year-long Homecoming celebration, the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup, Andy Murray hotel, and possible declaration of independence, Scotland is having a huge year in 2014. Good time for a new hotel to open up in the capital, Edinburgh.

The just-opened 138-room DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre is the first DoubleTree by Hilton in the city, joining 21 of the brand's properties in the United Kingdom. While the hotel at first looks to be a wee bit out from the main Old Town/Grassmarket/Princes Street drag, it's actually in a pretty handy location, a few minutes' walk from the castle, the bars and restaurants of Lothian Street, and the National Museum.

5 Tasty Facts About The DoubleTree Cookie You're Probably Eating Right Now

March 20, 2014 at 8:47 AM | by | Comments (0)

Got a craving for a cookie? Then get yourself to the nearest DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel because the hotel brand is celebrating its 300 million cookie milestone by giving out even more cookies to guests and non-guests around the world.

That's right. Whether or not you're a guest at a DoubleTree today or just passing by, you can stop in and get one of their signature chocolate chip cookies. And if you live in NYC, keep an eye for DoubleTree team members who will be roaming the streets handing out two cookies to people from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. DoubleTree is hoping folks will take one cookie to keep and one to share with their friends. (We'll see about that!)

The DoubleTree cookie was first handed out to all guests in the late 1980s at a time when it was common for hotels to only give them to VIP guests. By 1986, a secret recipe for the cookie was created and to this day, only a handful of bakeries around the world hold the secret recipe. However, each chocolate chip cookie is baked fresh daily at the hotel. And yes, the cookie is served at EVERY DoubleTree hotel in the world from Chile to China.

"It's something that seems to transcend all cultures--a chocolate chip cookie," said John Greenleaf, global head of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels.

Here are 5 more interesting, and tasty, facts about the delicious DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie:

1. 77,000 chocolate chip cookies are given out each day.
2. 28,000,000 warm welcomes happen at DoubleTree annually
3. 300,000,000+ chocolate chip cookies have been given out to date
4. 20 is the average number of chocolate chips per 2 ounce cookie
5. 950,000 pounds of chocolate chips are used each year.

How DoubleTree By Hilton Makes Their Sweet Dreams Beds Everyday

September 18, 2013 at 4:00 PM | by | Comments (2)

All this week, we'll be talking about Hotel Beds--where to buy 'em, how to make 'em, how to trust 'em (just wait and see what we mean) and what to do when the bed isn't enough to send you to Sleepyland. Got a hotel bed question or comment? Send it to us!

If a hotel's got a plush bed, mounds of pillows and crisp, clean linens, one might think they've got the hotel bed down on lock. Wrong. Presentation is everything. Have you ever walked into a hotel room after a long trip, more than ready to collapse onto the hotel bed, only to find it was poorly made with the pillows out of order and the sheets half-on or wrinkled? We have. And it was pretty depressing.

That's why a properly made bed is just as crucial as the bed type itself. Now, how does one properly make a hotel bed? Well, each hotel brand has different protocols. Thanks to Diana Plazas, Director of Global Brand Marketing for DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels, we've got a step-by-step tutorial on how to make DoubleTree's own Sweet Dreams bed.
