What’s Out, What’s In: Working In Instead of Out
We've started a series of what’s trending in hotels these days: What’s Out, What’s In. Do we like what we see? Think it's a dud? You be the judge!
What's Out: Trekking to the hotel gym
What's In: In-room workouts that rival a personal training session
The hotel gym. We know people use ‘em, but sometimes it’s hard to find that last bit of energy needed to drag yourself out of your room after a busy day of sightseeing or making deals. Or maybe you’re just jet-lagged and are up at 3 a.m. thinking, “Man – I could really go for a workout right now.” At these hotels, the gym comes to you.
Dorchester Collection’s new contemporary hotel 45 Park Lane in London offers you an exclusive in-room workout with fitness guru and trainer to the stars, Matt Roberts, through a bespoke and full-body in-room video program. The hotel committed to get fit during the London Olympics and got Matt to create five workouts, each video focusing on a different area of the body using the furniture at hand. (We’re not suggesting they’re copying us here at HC, but sort of like our Sweat-Worthy Hotel Room Exercises series we brought you about a month or so ago.)
When you leave you’ll also get a freebie Matt at 45 Park Lane Fitness Pack which includes step-by-step training techniques for beginners through pros, a healthy eating plan, and “in the know” tips from the trainer -- things only Matt Roberts and Naomi Campbell knew till now.
At Raffles Praslin Seychelles space is your friend if you want to have an in-room workout. In the privacy of your own 410 sq ft (minimum) villa, with a vast outdoor terrace looking out over the ocean, you can do as many Sun Salutations as you want without bumping into the furniture. All villas already include a yoga mat and, at your mere request, the resort will deliver a fitness kit consisting of a dumbbell set, skipping rope, stability ball, resistance band and a selection of exercise DVDs. If that’s not enough to get you going you can arrange for an in-room personal trainer to take you through your paces with a customized exercise program.
And don't forget, HotelChatter's Sweat-Worthy Workouts: Can't afford to hire a personal trainer to come to your room? Or more likely, are you staying in a property that doesn't have a gym or in-room fitness videos? We've got you covered with our five sweat-worthy workouts, all of which you can do in your hotel room. Watch the videos for instructions on the different body parts to work out. You're very welcome!

Plaza Athénée Paris Kicks Off Its Second Century With a Bang
Tomorrow, April 20, is a big day for Plaza Athénée Paris, when it will be one hundred years ago it first opened its doors on that same day in 1913. A major party is set to take place in the hotel’s courtyard, with over 600 guests expected, who among other things will be able to snack on a 10-meter anniversary cake.
Don’t be disappointed though if your invite got lost in the mail, as there are various ways throughout the year to join in on the fun, including a dedicated celebratory cocktail “Harcourt Baccarat”. Naturally, we had to venture over to the hotel and try this baby out.

What's Out, What's In: Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend
We've started a series of what’s trending in hotels these days: What’s Out, What’s In. Do we like what we see? Think it's a dud? You be the judge!
What’s Out: Seaweed facials
What's In: Facials with gold, diamonds and other sparkly things
Diamonds and other precious metals and gems are sparkly and luminous; why shouldn’t your skin be the same? See what the hotel spas below are doing to make your skin radiate with good health.
The Dorchester Hotel in London offers the Carol Joy London Diamond Facial. Following ten years of research and three years of development, Carol Joy London products are created with some of the most precious beauty ingredients around (who knew that Golden Millet Oil was like pure gold?).
This intensive facial includes exfoliation with a diamond-head contraption that is said to be gentler than the traditional crystal ablater (we just like that word –- it sounds kind of bad-ass). While that’s going on, you’re being blasted with an Oxyjet machine that produces 95% pure oxygen to cool and soothe your skin and stimulate collagen production. The result? A firmer, clearer and more glowing you. The price for beauty, in this case, is £205 ($279).

Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air Pampers Guests for Oscars
It's Oscar time! Or, as they say in Los Angeles hotels, "award season," which is equivalent to "high season" everywhere else outside of Tinsel Town so good luck getting a room. Oh, and you'll never see so much neck craning in hotel lobbies in your life. We've seen "normal" people throw on a cute outfit and dark shades just to get their five minutes. But we know our readers are much more fancier.
In honor of award season, the Dorchester Collection's Hotel Bel-Air and the Beverly Hills Hotel are giving guests the opportunity to experience a red-carpet moment with special amenities and themed packages that celebrate perhaps the only thing Hollywood looks forward to in February. This only happens once a year, people, so pay attention and start booking!

There's Beef and New Beefed-Up Suites At The Dorchester London
Earlier this week we paid a visit to check out the newest addition to The Dorchester London's accommodations: 22 suites redesigned by Alexandra Champalimaud. Lady Gaga unfortunately wasn’t around to offer us a free hotel room, but we did pass Sir Anthony Hopkins in the lobby, which was good enough for us.
This is the flagship of the eponymous Dorchester Collection, which includes sister hotels such as the tony Plaza Athénée in Paris and Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles. So, we knew these suites had to be something to behold.

A New Reason To Make Friends With Lady Gaga: Free Hotel Rooms

The perks of being a celebrity are numerous: restaurants fall over themselves to give you the best seat in the house, stylists are employed full-time to make you look fab, and you even get to show up unannounced at other people's fancy hotel weddings! What a life.
But once in a while, celebs like to give back. No, we're not talking about obscure charity foundations or flying to Africa to pose with schoolchildren.
We're talking about the stuff that matters. Like a Deluxe Room at London's The Dorchester.
According to ABC, Lady Gaga recently made friends with a UK couple who were hosting their wedding reception at the swank 5-star hotel. After speaking with them, and, apparently, liking them, she offered up a deluxe room at the hotel as a wedding gift. (Which, we should remind you, typically goes for around £475/night.)

Here's a Way to Wear Your Love for The Dorchester Around Your Neck

When we fall in love with a hotel, we do what we can to bring the hotel experience home with us. Sometimes, we settle for the bath toiletries or the note pad and pencils. Other times, we shell out money for limited edition items like scented candles, plush bathrobes, tote bags and even flip-flops and sneakers. And while we've yet to personally shell out thousands of dollars on jewelry collections inspired by a hotel, it's nice we could do that...if we had the funds.
But for now, we're eying a less expensive way to wear our love for a hotel around our neck--a printed silk scarf from British fashion designer Teatum Jones inspired by The Dorchester Hotel.
Measuring 54 inches by 54 inches, the scarf is made of 100 percent pure silk double georgette and features the metalwork of the hotel's balconies juxtaposed with old black and white photographs of the hotel's staff from the early days. Catherine Teatum, creative director of Teatum Jones, explains more about the design:

This Might Be The Best Part of the Hotel Bel-Air's New Rooms
Usually we save our hotel bathroom escapades for Bathroom Tuesdays but we just had to share this loo story from the recently reopened Hotel Bel-Air.
Inside of all the guestrooms, not just the fancy suites, are the finest thrones you could hope for--Neorest 500 automatic toilets, complete with remote controls. Do you hear bells ringing? We do!
While it's not as advanced as the cans at the Peninsula Tokyo, the Neorest still rises to greet you (see video below) and is heated at all times. Plus, when you're done you can look at the remote for all sorts of other "activities" to do.
One of the reasons we love luxury hotels so much is that we get to live in the lap of luxury for a little bit and the Hotel Bel-Air is certainly giving its guests that chance with their new bathrooms. Not only are there La Prairie amenities but in addition to a shower, there's a deep soaking tub with a TV appropriately positioned above. Heaven.
But if you plan on taking the Neorest home with you, it will cost upwards of $3,000 and no, the hotel does not sell it in its boutique store.

Jay-Z and Beyonce Run the World From Atop Le Meurice
Beyonce and Jay-Z are living large at Hotel Le Meurice. The married couple are shacked up in a penthouse suite overlooking the Tuileries Garden for an eye-popping $20,000 a night. Beyonce better get on selling her new single, "Run the World (Girls)."
So what does $20,000 a night buy you? You get the two-story Belle Etoile suite with a private elevator, kitchen, glass-enclosed dining room and large private terrace at the beautiful Paris hotel. Le Meurice is one of Beyonce's faves, and it seems to be the hotel of choice for other hip-hop elite, with such fans as Eminem and Kanye West.

The Dorchester Celebrates 80 Years of Celebrity Meltdowns...With Trees?
The Dorchester Hotel, home to many a celebrity breakdown, is having a birthday, and not just any birthday--an 80th birthday. Congrats! They've outlived Liz Taylor and Michael Jackson! (even though he was banned from the hotel.)
But yet instead of hosting some crazy party filled with all the crazy celebs who've had crazy times at the hotel, The Dorchester is doing something rather, well, sane, to mark the occasion.
On April 18, the hotel will be planting 15 Future Great Trees throughout the city. It's not very rock’n’roll but at least it’s eco friendly. The idea is that these trees will become London landmarks like the tree which has grown outside The Dorchester for many years. A special cocktail is also in the making and a selection of suites will be refurbed to mark this joyous occasion.
We wish the Dorchester nothing but the best in the next 80 years...the best of celebrity meltdowns that is.

Willow Smith Flicks Her Hair At The Dorchester

Willow and her yellow hit the road in Manchester
The Dorchester Hotel has more than its fair share of celebrity guests - and it was only a couple of months ago that Nicki Minaj got the boot after her fans caused mayhem. However there were no reports of trouble when their latest guest, Willow Smith stayed, as she supports Justin Bieber on his UK tour. In fact Willow was pictured meeting and greeting her fans and signing autographs as she left the hotel.
We just hope she didn’t flick her hair anywhere near the other guests' food or faces for that matter. Especially with those new yellow braids she has been sporting - she could take someone's eye out!

Nicki Minaj Gets Booted from The Dorchester in London
It's official--The Dorchester is THE hotel for crazy celeb behavior. Here's yet another tale to add to the collection.
Hip-hop darling Nicki Minaj always seems to grab attention, whether it be for her Lady Gaga-esque ensembles, crazy wigs or fierce rhymes. But when she checked into the Dorchester in London, it wasn't her zany fashion or singing that was causing controversy.
It was her unruly barbz, or fans. They flooded the hotel in hopes of getting their own "Moment 4 Life." But things got outta hand when the barbz scrawled graffiti on the Dorchester's elevator. We can only imagine how officials at the oh-so-proper Dorchester reacted. Then, a fight broke out that required an ambulance to come along.
