Let's just take a quick break right now from the stress and anxiety we're all under on this Wednesday morning and focus on this snapshot of the Today Show's puppy, Wrangler, chilling in a Kimpton Hotels animal-print bathrobe during the "blizzard" the other day. The cuteness, it kills.
There's also another pic of Wrangler "reading" the room service menu. Glad to see someone else feels the same way we do about this supposedly waning hotel tradition.
Kimpton Hotels has long been a fave pet-friendly hotel brand of HotelChatter. We think half of the stories in our dog-friendly hotels section feature Kimpton properties. But now that Kimpton is officially a part of InterContinental Hotel Group, we guess they're able to take their pet-friendliness national now. Thanks, IHG!

When we stayed at the newish Hotel Palomar Phoenix recently, we were psyched. Not just for the free WiFi we get for being Kimpton InTouch Members (although that's pretty awesome), but because we knew the hotel was home to one of Kimpton's Directors of Pet Relations.
This is Bosco. We felt like stalkers, lurking near the front desk and peeking around corners to try and find him. Then, when we finally did spy him, he was skipping through the lobby for a walk, so we got to pet him but missed a photo op.
To console ourselves, we shuttled off to the hotel's restaurant, Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails. There, we not only got a canine fix, scoping out all the dog-themed artwork and statues, but we also stuffed our faces with delicious, farm-to-table-good food.
Check out our gallery for shots of both the decor and the dishes.

Lesser known but no less worthy, the fest has got former mayor Clint Eastwood weighing in on his namesake award, lectures and workshops, and VIP cocktail parties. There’s also a seaside cache no big city fest can touch with a Saturday night movie on the beach, the Filmmakers Beach Bash (think boatloads of Monterey County wine) and the elegant, pooch-tastic Cypress Inn.
Just two blocks from Carmel Beach, the 44-room landmark inn makes especially good sense during the Carmel Art and Film Fest not only for its vintage Hollywood beauty but also because of its co-owner, legendary cinema star Doris Day. Belonging to a collection of Carmel Boutique Inns and around since 1929, Cypress Inn is hodgepodge of charm and style with a Mediterranean vibe, in-room fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and that magically compact grandeur only seen in Carmel-By-The-Sea. You’ll get this right away on site of the hotel’s elevated, vintage entrance, something that always grabs us from the start.

We don't often get to the Midwest so we get very curious about the hotels there. We were thrilled to find on a recent stay at the Grand Hotel Minneapolis that this one totally lives up to its Kimpton reputation for being dog-friendly.
It certainly helped that the day after we checked-in was 'Take Your Dog to Work Day,' which the hotel seemed intent on celebrating. The front desk staff told us they were expecting a few canine guests to check in that day as well, so there were plenty of beds, bowls and treats for them on hand.
Take a peek at our spin through the lobby and a few other spaces at The Grand, and you'll see pet-friendly touches and a pretty nice looking place for humans to hang out, too.
Let's face it, dining al fresco is one of L.A.'s collective pastimes. Lots of restaurants even let you bring your Beverly Hills chihuahua with you. But the W Hotel Los Angeles Westwood is going one step further and now has a pet-friendly 'Fido's Kitchen' menu at The Backyard Restaurant.
Available exclusively at the restaurant, the food is suitably L.A. fresh and healthy, too. If you saw 'Organic Chicken, Free Range Eggs and Brown Rice' on a menu, you might order it for yourself, no? Well, here the dish is called Stella's Mutt"za" Balls and we're assuming it's priced a little lower than the human meals (or at least, we hope).
Other menu highlights include Milo's Chopped Veggie & Chicken Salad and the Knuckle's Frozen "POP!"--organic yogurt, mashed banana and peanut butter.

The Oscars have come and gone but celebrities are still skulking around Los Angeles Hotels.
Over at the Hotel Palomar Los Angeles Westwood you're bound to see a gorgeous young starlet who hangs out there. A girl with long glossy waves, big brown eyes, and major acting chops--that is, if by acting you mean rolling over or playing dead.
Yes, we're talking about a dog--Luna, the Cocker Spaniel in residence at Hotel Palomar, and one of Kimpton's Directors of Pet Relations.
We haven't had the chance to meet Luna yet, but L.A. pet photographer Grace Chon dropped by the hotel to take these shots of Miss Luna and tells us that she is as sweet as pie--such a rarity in Hollywood.

Thankfully, the latest addition to the pack is installed a little closer to home, at the Fairmont Pittsburgh.
This lovely girl is Edie. Just as the bar at Fairmont Pittsburgh is named after the city's favorite son, Andy Warhol, the newest staff member is named after Warhol's muse, Edie Sedgwick. Instead of appearing in incomprehensible art films, though, this Edie is on hand to welcome guests to the hotel, and walk them to their rooms if they so choose.

Both hotels got new directors of pet relations. Luna, an American Cocker Spaniel who sports a pink collar, works for Hotel Palomar. She's been welcoming animal and human guests and promoting the hotel's occasional Yappy Hours, pet-friendly happy hours. The doggie also lets visitors know that each pet gets a bed, bowl, treats and toys when checking in.

In what's probably the cutest contest ever, the Loews Coronado Bay will hold its sixth annual Surf Dog Competition on Coronado's Imperial Beach on June 4. You can't beat adorable dogs on surfboards.
More than 60 pooches are expected to jump into the ocean and hang 10 on their boards in hopes of winning bragging rights. Plus, the first-place winner of each division scores prizes, like a pet vacation at the dog-friendly hotel.

Head to the Loews Coronado Bay Resort if you want to see furry surfers ride some waves. We don't mean hairy dudes. The hotel will host its fifth annual Dog Surf Competition at Coronado's Imperial Beach on May 22.
Loews expects 60 pooch surfers and more than a thousand dog lovers to come out. Canine contestants and their owners get a special perk this year: entry into the VIP viewing of the new doggie flick Marmaduke, based on the comic strip. The hotel has a special connection to the movie, since scenes were shot at last year's Surf Dog Competition.
Here we go again: the owners of the Hotel Pennsylvania have the wrecking ball poised and ready to fly. Yes, we’ve heard this song before (you can catch up here and here), but the folks at Curbed wonder if this time they might actually mean it, since the proposed office tower that would replace the hotel has entered the public review process.
With the Westminster dog show right around the corner, our most pressing reaction to this news is: Where will all the doggies sleep if the Hotel Penn is pulled down? The hotel is the unofficial headquarters—and preferred toilet—for the show dogs and their people during Westminster—and a wonderful place to pooch-and-people watch for bored New Yorkers.
