"Breaking" News :: Do Not Disturb Canceled

September 26, 2008 at 10:13 AM | by | Comments (3)

Sitcom Fail.

Well, color us surprised. Do Not Disturb -- the hotel sitcom starring Jerry O'Connell that we loved to hate and then hated ourselves for kinda-loving -- has reportedly gotten the axe after only three episodes.

We'll be honest: you may have noticed our weekly episode review was missing this time around. Well, for some reason, our Tivo did not record Do Not Disturb this week. And we were hoping to catch the latest episode (#3) online yesterday, but it (curiously) was never posted on Fox.com and we were, frankly, a little bit bummed cause we kinda enjoyed it last week.

But silly, silly us: the Tivo apparently knew something we didn't.

Do Not Disturb :: A Disturbing Change of Heart

September 18, 2008 at 2:56 PM | by | Comments (0)

Have a seat. We're about to deliver big news.

We watched episode two of the new sitcom Do Not Disturb last night -- remember, the one we thought to be so offensively terrible that we questioned its right to claim even a moment of our precious attention last week -- and, um, we sort of didn't hate it as much.

Were we drugged? Drunk? In a euphoric, nothing-can-destroy-our-happiness kind of mood? No, because that usually doesn't happen when we're at home at night watching television.

But we laughed. Out loud. Like twice, maybe three times. Which, we assume, means we were entertained at some point during the thirty-minute semi-disaster of a network television show. Oh, and Audrina Patridge (from The Hills) made her big cameo, too. But we'll get to that in just a second.

Come with us on a journey of embarrassing confessions as we attempt to explain our slight (albeit not a total-eclipse-style) change of heart after the jump.

Do Not Disturb :: Yes, It's That Bad

September 11, 2008 at 1:02 PM | by | Comments (3)

Yes, Jerry, our faces looked like that while we were watching too.

Unfortunately, we caught the premiere of the hotly-antipicated (by us) Do Not Disturb, the FOX sitcom that stars Jerry O'Connell as the GM of a trendy Manhattan hotel -- and oh, it's bad, guys. It's real bad.

We did our best to sit down with open minds. After all, we love us some Jerry O (those baby blues!) and his costar Nicey Nash is a total hoot on Reno 911 and the less-favored Clean House on Style Network.

But look: Jerry O'Connell? You're not funny. You're just not. It doesn't help that the script isn't even "heh" funny, and while we get that it's a sitcom about hotel staff and notsomuch about running a hotel, it sort of pained us that in the span of one episode, we failed to see a single employee interact with a single guest (but it's ok; we know Audrina is coming soon).

They seemed too busy being concerned about who was having sex with whom. But then again, maybe that helps explain why sometimes we get craptastic service at some trendy Manhattan hotels.

"Do Not Disturb" Offering an Escape to LA But No Escape from The Show

September 9, 2008 at 9:20 AM | by | Comment (1)

The upcoming Do Not Disturb show starring Jerry O'Connell and Nicey Nash premieres tomorrow night at 9:30 on Fox and is already getting panned from critics--one called it "Do Not Watch"--which does not surprise us, given hotels' track record for TV shows. Check out the clips here for further proof.

While we wait for this show to get cancelled (or to be fair, picked up for a full season!), Fox is holding an Escape to LA sweepstakes where "you could win a fabulous weekend at a hip boutique hotel."

Head to the show's website and enter in your shizz. No purchase necessary. You probably don't even have to watch the show!

The winner will receive airfare to Los Angeles, two nights in a hotel in the "LA-area" (uh-oh), ground transpo to and from the airport and $500 in an Amex gift card. Actually, that's pretty sweet provided they don't put you near the airport or in a crap hotel on Sunset Boulevard.

Hurry up, you must enter by 3:00 pm PST on September 24th! The winner will be announced during the week of October 1st.

We're taking guesses for this mystery boutique hotel. Got yours? Then put 'em here.

Audrina Patridge Gives Us One More Reason to Hate "Do Not Disturb" Before It Airs

August 14, 2008 at 9:40 AM | by | Comments (0)

Remember that new show about a "swanky hotel" we told you about a couple of weeks ago?

To remind you: Jerry O'Connell stars as a hotel General Manager opposite Niecy Nash, who plays a Human Resources Director, in Do Not Disturb, a sitcom set in a trendy NYC hotel. We thought it didn't look too promising or even really particularly funny or interesting -- plus, as we found with Welcome to the Parker, shows about hotels are at high-risk for becoming suckfests.

But now we're elevating that "high risk for sucking" watch to a "canceled after 2 episodes" warning because we hear Audrina Patridge (yes, the one from The Hills) is set to guest star.

Ah, well. It's about time someone gave Audrina an opportunity to show off her comedic acting skills. The Daily Blabber had the scoop:

"[The show] takes place in New York City at a swanky hotel," Aud wrote on her blog. "I will be playing a guest checking into the hotel and I am going to film my scenes sometime next week! I think Jerry O'Connell is hysterical (have you guys seen his video on that Web site FunnyorDie!?) and I can't wait to meet Niecy!"

Oh, you'd better believe you're going to get a full review from us the moment this thing premieres.

Jerry O'Connell To Star as Hotel General Manager in TV Show "Do Not Disturb"

July 31, 2008 at 12:34 PM | by | Comments (13)

We had actually heard that a show about a hip boutique hotel was in the works a few months ago. But back then, all we heard was that Reno 911's Nicey Nash was filming a pilot episode.

But now, there is like full confirmation that this show, called Do Not Disturb, is going to air and it's cast soon-to-be-daddy-of-twins Jerry O'Connell as the hotel's anal general manager, Nash as the head of human resources, Robert Wagner as the egotistical owner and some lesser-known actors as the hotel employees.

Full description of show here:

DO NOT DISTURB (working title) is a hilarious workplace comedy set at one of New York City's hottest and hippest hotels: The Inn. Named one of the Big Apple's "10 Best Places to Stay," The Inn is just that the "in" place to be, with its chic decor, stylish staff and celebrity clientele.

Behind the scenes, however, the upstairs/downstairs dynamic tells quite a different story.

Keep reading for more on the show.
