Swimming Over The Edge: The Pool At The Okura Prestige Bangkok

Swimmers with a strong stomach have more and more options these days when wanting to take a dip. From the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore (55 stories up in the air) to the Joule in Dallas, we previously looked at 10 Death Defying Rooftop Pools and received many more suggestions from you.
Today we’re adding another one to our list, this time in Thailand at the Okura Prestige Bangkok. If something looks off in the picture above, believe us when we tell you it’s no Photoshop: set on the 25th floor, the pool juts out of the curvature of the Park Ventures Ecoplex building, of which the hotel is part. The curved shape, widest at its middle and tapering at both ends (reflecting the Thai symbol of “wai” – thanks and welcome), literally gives you a sense of floating over the edge. Open from 6am to 9pm, an early or late swim as the city wakes up or evening falls will have to be added to our to do’s during a next trip to Bangkok.

Inside The Hilton Auckland, Where The Pool Hangs Off The Roof

All this week, HotelChatter contributor Eric Rosen takes us on a tour of New Zealand’s hotel scene.
Though we stayed at the Langham during our three days in Auckland, we took the opportunity to visit a couple of the city’s other premier hotels including the Hilton.
The first thing that struck us as we dropped off a couple friends was the architecture. The hotel is on a renovated wharf, and was designed to look like a cruise ship, though it had more of an oil tanker aesthetic if you asked us. The one cool feature was the pool suspended four stories above the driveway, and you know how we like our dramatic hotel pools.

10 Death Defying Rooftop Hotel Pools

There are rooftop pools and then there are death defying rooftop pools. These are pools located impossibly high off the ground with infinity-edges that make you fear as if the water is going to run off the side of the building, and carry you along with it.
These are pools that hang off the building's edge with full plexi-glass windows so that not only are you afraid to look down but the people below may be afraid to look up. And these are the pools that allow you to slide through a shark tank. (Ok, there's only one of those but if sliding through a shark tank does not fit the description of "death defying" then we don't know what does.)
For those of you who already turned on by swimming up high in the sky, you might be wondering where to go? Well, luckily for you, the best places to indulge in these types of aquatic thrills happen to be at hotels. Take a look at some of the death defying rooftop hotel pools that you can jump into all for the price of a room. Got your own death defying rooftop hotel pool we should know about? Then pass it on!
