Here's Your Chance to Stay at the Ritz Paris For Slightly Less Than Normal

It used to be something of a tradition for Londoners to hop on the Eurostar for a quicky weekend in Paris – especially when it came to winter romance. But it obviously isn’t going so well at the moment, thanks to the insanely strong euro: Eurostar is currently bombarding London with ads, and Parisian hotels seeing to be flinging out special offers by the day.
Anyway, if you can bear the dreadful exchange rate, there are deals to be had. This week the Leading Hotels of the World group have jumped on the bandwagon, offering up to 30% off – which, when you’re talking hotels like the Ritz or the Crillon, is a pretty big deal.
With the Leading in Paris offer, starting rates are down to €590 at the Hotel Le Bristol, €550 at the Ritz, €530 at the Hotel de Crillon and €589 at the Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière. Slightly cheaper are the Hotel Lancaster from €370, or the Hotel Raphael from €365 (the Raphael will also chuck in breakfast and a special “welcome gift).

How Special is the Special Winter Offer From Concorde Hotels?
Well, hello Paris. And Berlin. And Prague. And even Marbella. Christmas shopping on the Continent is looking pretty promising this year. The latest lot to offer special winter deals are the folk at Concorde Hotels. But is it worth it?
The Winter Offer which starts 1 November and ends March 31 promises bed, breakfast and a “surprise gift” if you stay two nights or more. And the rates sound pretty good – Prague from €80 ($118/£72), Berlin from €136 and Paris from €148.
Except we just looked up rezzie rates for a couple of properties, and looks like you can do better by simply paying up front, if all you want is a room with no added extras.

The Mandarin Oriental's 'Festive Breaks' May Not Be So Festive After All

When planning our next hotel stay, a night at a Mandarin Oriental Hotel is never even within our realm of possibilities as the luxury hotels are usually far out of our price range. But if we suddenly manage to receive a Christmas gift of cash in the next month or so, we could consider a night at MO, thanks to their new Festive Breaks offer.
From November 12 to December 30 guests who book two nights in a Mandarin Oriental will get a hotel credit of up to $100 per stay ($200 if you book a suite.) The credits cannot be used towards the room but you can use them at the spa or the hotel restaurants.
This sounds generous of Mandarin Oriental but it's actually quite frustrating.

'Explorer Passes' Aren't Worth It at The Marriott New York Brooklyn Bridge

Marriot Hotels have been very good lately about alerting us hotel guests to their newest hotel deals and packages via Facebook, Twitter and even the individual Marriott hotels' websites. However, just because Marriott advertises it as a deal doesn't necessarily mean it's a good one. The other week we expressed some disappointment with a New Orleans package which, based on its marketing and pricing, made less than zero sense.
Now it's the Explore Your New York package deal from the New York Marriott At The Brooklyn Bridge. Room rates range from $274-$524 per room, per night, plus tax. The ostensible bonus is that rooms come bundled with two Explorer Passes that have three discount coupons for 40 different shops, tours, or attractions. Breakfast for two is also thrown in.
We'll get into the mechanics of this non-deal after the jump, but before we highlight the specifics: there's no way this is ever going to be a deal. The rules never change. Deeply discounted resorts and cruises are sometimes bargains because you're purchasing a unique experience. Not so much hotels in major cities, which are functionally interchangeable. Tourist coupon books are worse than useless, locking you into events for which you'd be better off picking and choosing deals.

You Won't Necessarily Score Bargains During San Diego Hotel Week
We got worried when the first San Diego Hotel Week only had one lonely hotel on board back in July. But as Hotel Week—set for November 13 to 26—approaches, more than 40 are on the roster. Thing is, we found that you're not necessarily getting a deal if you book a room through the Hotel Week website.
Don't get us wrong, you can score some price cuts. The Estancia La Jolla is giving out rooms for 50 percent off. A room that usually costs $275 is $137.50 exclusively through Hotel Week's website. You can also snag a guestroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront for $99. The regular price is $109.

A Not So Jazzy Deal: Marriott and Harrah's New Orleans Casino Getaway

The Renaissance Arts Hotel in New Orleans is offering what their breathless press release describes as "the ultimate casino getaway." Using a promotional booking code available on the Marriott site, you can book a room Thursdays through Sundays from now until August 21, 2010.
The deal, such as it is, includes a $10 Harrah's Casino voucher (two whole antes!), $15 a night parking (discounted!), and "rates from $89-$339 per room, per night." We think you can tell from our tone that this isn't going to go well.

The Wynn Las Vegas is Offering Up Its 'Private' Jet To Guests

Apparently the folks at the Wynn Las Vegas had some unused jets lying around the tarmac - the recession's been rough on everyone that way - and decided to try to do something with them. For the next two months they'll be flying travelers between Los Angeles and Vegas as part of a broader vacation package:
The package begins at $780 per person for double occupancy and $1,193 for single occupancy. The price includes roundtrip airfare on a 50-person jet from Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport or John Wayne Airport in Orange County and a three-night stay in a standard room at Encore or Wynn. On board the private jet, a Wynn concierge will have room keys on hand so guests can skip the hotel check-in process, as well as champagne before take off. Upon arrival at McCarran International Airport’s executive terminal, limousine service will take guests to the resort.
This is presumably targeted at the same kind of Vegas bachelor parties where people book single-night table service at a club because they're rolling high class, which isn't the worst market to target. It might also be nice for important anniversaries. And though we're not really sure why a 50-passenger jet counts as "private" when the USAir shuttle from Burbank to Vegas has less seats, the limos are a nice touch.

$850 'Bargain' Package at The Huntington Hotel San Francisco

Socialites, smoking jackets, and stiff cocktails all come to mind when we think of San Francisco's Huntington Hotel. When we say it's old school, we mean it: Think jacket required, heavy wood accents, and decor that's world's away from what you might find at hyper-modern hotels like The Clift and W. Here it's a decidedly older crowd that reigns supreme, but that doesn't make it any less of a novelty experience for young travelers.
The Huntington is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, and in it for guests who give a defiant finger to the recession is a package that's all over-the-top frills. It's only available through December 30th of this year, so you'll need to whip out your credit card soon if you want to take advantage of their one-night $850 "deal." That's right, $850 qualifies as a bargain basement rate according to The Huntington.

Will The British Pound's Tumble Open Up European Deals For Americans?

It used to be that Americans were functionally blocked out of travel packages like this great seven night holiday at the 4-star Hotel Louis Phaethon Beach in Cyprus. The deal is marketed to British tourists and pegged for the British pound, coming in at a pretty decent £610 per person for the transportation-inclusive vacation. There are other options floating around for the Hotel Louis for up to £200 less if you're willing to go during the winter.
The problem is that even a £400 vacation package last March would have been almost $800 for an American. The exchange rate has gotten a little more even, though it's up from where it was in January. Today £400 is about $650. The bigger question is how the travel industry will adjust now that the British pound is tumbling. Hotels.com is on the story, suggesting both that prices will change and that more deals will appear, at least from the British perspective:

The Hotel Max Wants $100 Extra To Let You Kind Of, Sort Of 'Raid The Honor Bar'

Through the rest of the year Seattle's Hotel Maxis running a deal where visitors get to "Raid The Honor Bar" for 1/2 off normal prices. The honor bar, which we're proud to say isn't even on our radar except that's where the Hangover Water lives, tends to be particular well-stocked at boutique hotels like the Max. In addition to the usual mini-bar items the package comes with toiletry kits, a Hotel Max Robe, a t-shirt, and an "intimacy kit."
Minor problem: you'll be paying so much more over the usual hotel rate that it's quite unlikely you'll come out ahead. There's even an interpretation under which you'd be getting "ripped off."

Two Weeks In Egypt At Two Hotels For $2,000

BudgetTravel just posted a special all-inclusive, 13-night package to Egypt - $1,999 per person - courtesy of Foreign Independent Tours. The price buys you airfare out of New York, local flights to your various destinations in Egypt, a four-night cruise, and a bunch of other perks. They're covering most meals, taking you on a bunch of tours that hit a bunch of highlights, and even hooking you up with an English speaking tour guide.
There are hotel stays on each side of the cruise, first at the Oasis Hotel in Cairo and then at the Al Nabila Grand Bay in Hurghada. Both are super-swank establishments and are quite suitable for a trip revolving around pre-planned daily excursions and nighttime spa pampering. The Oasis Hotel, just a few miles from the Pyramids of Giza, is a functional full-scale nine-acre resort in the middle of the desert. However, TripAdvisor reviews warn against staying in a room closer to the hotel's disco. Also, we're not crazy about that room decor (above.)
