It's what you've been waiting all year for--The 2009 HotelChatter Awards! We'll be bringing you the best and worst of the year (and the decade) all day today and part of tomorrow. Agree or disagree with our picks? Air your thoughts in comments below.

BEST CELEBRITY PERFORMANCE: DAVID HASSELHOFF

This year was really tough to choose a best celebrity performance. If you weren't sure how we evaluated the winners for this award, it's largely done based on the frequency with which a celebrity visits hotels. It's also based on the crazy behavior a celebrity exhibits while staying at hotels. Like Britney Spears in 2006 and 2007. Ah, those were the golden years.

But last year's winner, Eliot Spitzer, was based on a single hotel stay--with a prostitute in DC--because it caused such a firestorm that gripped the nation for most of 2008.

So you could say that this year's winner could be Tiger Woods given his penchant for women who work in hospitality. But we doubt Tiger will be hooking up with ladies in hotels anymore. We could also choose Dennis Rodman, but that would be rewarding bad behavior to women, wouldn't it?

We briefly considered Amy Winehouse who spent early 2009 terrorizing the folks in hotels on St. Lucia. And Miss Lindsay Lohan is making quite a comeback these days--as far as her hotel sightings. We think she's one to watch in 2010.

But when it comes to a spectacular celebrity performance, there is only one clear winner--David Hasselhoff.

David Hasselhoff may still be a foxy-looking old man but he has the nighttime habits of a 7-year-old. According to the latest entry in the "Hoff Gets Ridiculously Drunk" diary, Hasselhoff got far too sloshed at the birthday bash for Simon Cowell and wet the bed in his room at the St. Martins Lane in London and assaulted a doctor that was called to help him. The Sun reports:

A source close to the star said: "David is very hard to handle when he drinks, often very emotional and aggressive.

"On this occasion he became so drunk he wet his hotel bed - ruining two mattresses - and was becoming a real pain for staff. His assistant Joe Townley was so concerned he called out a doctor. David was furious and lashed out at him - but mistakenly hit the doctor. They decided they had no option but to lock him in the basement until an ambulance arrived."....

Philippe Starck Practically Responsible for Near-Death of Hasselhoff

David Hasselhoff has been staying at the Sanderson Hotel in London but we guess he may not be returning soon. Reports were swirling about that The Hoff cut himself shaving and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. While Hoff was shaving, there was a little bit more involved in the incident.

Turns out that The Hoff was shaving - after using the gym at the Sanderson Hotel - and had trouble with the dark lighting and trendy chandeliers over the sinks in the Philippe Starck-designed men's room. Squinting in the mirror, the 6-foot-4 Hoff bumped his head on the chandelier, which sent shards of glass and chrome cutting into his right arm, severing a tendon. The injury required surgery, but The Hoff should be ready to continue filming commercials for a British Internet company, after spending the night in the hospital.

Why is it that Hasselhoff always manages to make a scene when staying at London hotels? Still despite his eratic behavior those crazy Brits still love him.

Philippe Starck however, will have some explaining to do.
