Look, we can’t help it. We’re suckers for a pet concierge. And this one takes the cake. At just 4 months old, Labrador Retriever Kora is the youngest Director of Pet Relations so far for Kimpton. She started her job at Hotel Palomar Dallas last night, at the property’s Howl-O-Ween Spooktacular party benefiting no-kill animal shelter Operation Kindness.

Element Hotels Open in Denver and in Dallas

September 21, 2009 at 12:33 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Element Hotels, a spin-off of the Westin Hotels brand, are slowly but surely expanding. The green extended-stay hotel chain has announced the openings of their fifth and sixth hotels in Denver Park Meadows and at Dallas Ft. Worth Airport North.

Rates at the Element Denver, which is actually on the outskirts of the city near the Denver Tech Center, start at $144 a night for a room with a king bed and a queen sleeper sofa and that rate includes a full hot breakfast. You can also make your own meals in the full kitchens that come with every room. Rates at the Dallas Airport location were not available yet as the hotel is expected to open later this week.

Up next for Element? The Element Hotel in Ewing, New Jersey which will open on November 5. We still have to wait a little bit longer for the promised NYC property as the Element Times Square West is now set for an August 2010 date.

Aloft Does Dallas...Again

Remember when we were sorta obsessed with the idea of Aloft Hotels taking over the world? The recession may have thrown a hitch in that plan — at least for the time being — but it seems world domination is alive and well in the Dallas area, where the brand’s fourth hotel, The Aloft Dallas Downtown has just opened its doors.

The newest Aloft has us excited for two reasons: 1) it’s actually located in downtown Dallas, not out in the boonies; and 2) it’s the first Aloft to also be adaptive re-use, an endeavor the brand apparently has plans to continue with future projects. Operating out of a 1924 railroad freight depot and commercial dry goods warehouse, the eight-story antique has been re-imagined with the sleek, loft-style aesthetic Aloft has been oh-so-diligently working to trademark.

NYLO Las Colinas' First Baby Steps Appear to Be Steady

NYLO Las Colinas opened its doors in July with a lovely ribbon-cutting ceremony, after lots of anticipation and a whole lotta slowdown with the chain's expansion. Better late than never on this one, we suppose — the NYLO chain has been a fave of HC's since the first property opened in Dallas in winter of 2007, and its middle child was born in Warwick, Rhode Island and now Irving, Texas (Las Colinas) boasts the third property in the still-young chain.

So, how does property number three appear to be faring? So far, so good — at least according to the lone review of the place on TripAdvisor.

NYLO's Third Property Set to Open July 27

Good news! Our fave budget-chic brand, NYLO, is opening up its third property in Irving, Texas (Las Colinas — in the Dallas area) on July 27th. The brand's expansion has been going pretty slowly since the first property in Plano, Texas opened up in December of '07, but we'll take what we can get here and remain hopeful that NYLO and their spinoff brand, XP, will pull through and keep opening up hotels as planned.

We dropped in on the NYLO site today and noticed NYLO Las Colinas is taking rezzies starting on July 27th (that's a Monday), and they're running a special opening rate promo with rates down as low as $139.00 until September 7 (when they'll go up to around $159-ish).

Check out the hotel (and the sweet-ass pool with an outdoor bar) here, and cross your fingers for no delays on this bad boy.

HotelChatter Checks Out the New Le Meridien 'Brand Experience'

Last week, we hit up the just-opened Le Meridien Dallas North to get an idea of the fly new look that the whole LM chain's going to be getting. Yesterday, we gave you a look at the lobby; today, a full tour.

To remind you: for the last couple of years, Starwood has been hard at work to develop a powerful, more modern and solid identity to roll out across its Le Meridien chain. The first "prototype" property to be outfitted with the new, uniquely Le Meridien designs and goodies was the Le Meridien Dallas North, with a guest experience that's supposed to stimulate all the senses. That means sounds ("sounds specifically created for Le Meridien by Sony/BMG"), smells (you're supposed to encounter a scent called LM01 created by perfume designer Le Labo), and tastes (a breakfast program designed by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten) that are uniquely LM.

Le Meridien Dallas North's Lobby is a Bit Pink. Whatchya Think?

Last week, we paid a visit to Le Meridien Dallas, which recently opened after the property (which had not been a Le Meridien until the this year) underwent a massive renovation. This hotel, as we've mentioned, is actually the prototype for the newly-revamped Le Meridien brand — the new look will roll out across the entire chain soon — and the design at this property was under the direction of Graham Downes (who was also the mastermind behind the Hard Rock San Diego).

The whole place has a whole lot of pink (well, fuschia) accents throughout, but a lil' pink never hurt anyone, right? Well, except this guy. The colors (we thought) made the lobby and rooms look contemporary and chic without being too cold.

Guest Takes Off With Not-So-Free Swag From Fairmont Dallas

We don't condone stealing, and we would never consider stealing anything (well, anything except hearts, that is), but we have to ask: is it actually much, much easier than we think it is to steal from a hotel?

Check this out: police are currently investigating a pretty serious theft that went down at the Fairmont Dallas, where a guest apparently took off with two plasma TV's and a coffee maker from her hotel room without anyone really noticing.

According to the Dallas Morning News:

The Fairmont hotel, located at 1717 North Akard St., reported this morning the theft of two 36-inch, LG plasma televisions and a coffee maker, Dallas police said.

A woman checked into two hotel rooms Friday and placed “Do not disturb” signs on each of the rooms’ doors and refused room service, police said. The woman then left the hotel either late Sunday or early Monday without checking out at the front desk.

Really? It's that easy? A couple DND signs and some crafty cover-names at check-in? Huh. We guess it probably is. Surely the lady was caught on camera or some such and it's likely that the investigation will turn up something — in the meantime, she's somewhere sipping a nice cup of brew and enjoying some good old fashioned television, we suppose.

The Stoneleigh in Dallas Now for $108 a Night

April 6, 2009 at 5:10 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

Hotels.com have just announced that every Tuesday, the site will kick off brand-new 24-hour sales featuring different properties each week. Tomorrow's 24-hour sale had unimpressive picks in Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami but we were kind of intrigued by the offer for the The Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa in Dallas.

Booking through Hotels.com will get you 40 percent off the room's regular rates. Meaning you can stay where Jessica Simpson occasionally visits for just $108 a night. Previously, the Stoneleigh was close to $200 a night. Even better, the rooms were just recently renovated and there's a brand-new spa on site.

We also liked Hotels.com Easter rate for this weekend at the Hard Rock Chicago which still had rooms available from April 10-13 for $77 a night, including free wireless internet. That leaves plenty of room left over to stock your Easter Basket. (We like ours filled with vodka and chocolate.)

The Hotels.com 24-hour sales begins at midnight CST (1 a.m. EST, 10 p.m. PST).

Westin Galleria Dallas Got a Dallas-Style Facelift

Too much and perhaps too late? Hotels around the globe are completing renovations just as travelers start to rethink their vacation plans. On the bright side, you will probably be staying in new rooms for less. This week we'll be looking at some of the new-old faces out there and telling you what these spiffed up joints will cost you. Any suggestions? Let us know.

The Westin Galleria Dallas, which we named the Best Hotel for Serious Shoppers in the big D (and yes, we meant it), has just unveiled the final results of its makeover, a nice addition to the recently-revamped (and seriously upgraded) Dallas Galleria mall to which it is attached.

Okay, confession: as many a native Dallasite will tell you, this mall has recently acquired some heavy fab-ness and it's hot time the hotel stepped up to match. The Galleria's interior was pretty-fied, a Sushi Samba was added — not to mention it still has an ice-rink, a Saks and a Nordstrom.

NYLO Las Colinas and NYLO XP Are Back On Track

March 25, 2009 at 3:29 PM | by Jenna | 0 Comments

A rendering of NYLO Las Colinas

It's been pretty quiet on the NYLO front for a while. NYLO Plano opened, then NYLO Warwick opened and we knew NYLO Las Colinas (in Dallas) would be on its way next — and then the company announced it would be aggressively expanding, revealing a number of new locations at the beginning of the year. Then...nothing. A bit of radio silence on the news front.

But! It turns out, the NYLO Las Colinas property was stalled — work stopped on the hotel when it was about 65% complete due to a lack of funding. But! No worries! Just a bump in the road; Dallas Business Journal is reporting that crews are back on the job and the hotel is on its way to completion, with an estimated opening date set for July.

What You Get for $20K in The Stoneleigh's New Penthouse Suite

The Penthouse of the recently-renovated Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa in Dallas is a bit like a Texas woman: beautiful to begin with — but with tons and tons of accessories and add-ons that make her seem to some people a little, er...over-the-top.

But that depends on your tastes, of course. The top two floors of the Stoneleigh are, to say the least, lavish: originally designed by Dorothy Draper back in the '30's, the two-story, 7,200 square-foot suite was given a top-to-bottom makeover by Carleton Varney during the recent property-wide $36 million renovation. The Penthouse is made up of three bedroom suites, a dining room, a living room, a library and bar, a 590-square-foot terrace and seven bathrooms. Seven. Yes.
