The Hotel de Crillon is Not For Everyone, Especially Not For You

We've been in Paris for a few days now, mostly meandering about the 7th Arrondissement but the other day, we did all things touristy and headed over to the Louvre.

The monstrous Louvre will take you about a week to go through and see everything. Or you can just do the three ladies--the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the  Winged Victory of Samothrace--and you'll be out in less than an hour and a half.

If you do that, then you've got some free time so you might be thinking, why not head over to the Hotel de Crillon at the Place de la Concorde (just a few blocks walk) and pop in for some tea or a quick bite to eat? You also think this would be a cool way of experiencing the hotel without having to fork over $1,000 a night.

Well, think again.

1 Hotel on the Left, Baccarat on the Right

Atlanta's Buckhead community has had a lot of development lately. It's quickly becoming the Beverly Hills of Atlanta, with luxury developments springing up left and right.

One of the biggest developments is the Streets of Buckhead, which is a mixed-use development made up of luxury apartments, high-end retailers, an office building and three hotels. Two of these hotels are confirmed to be a 1 Hotel & Residences and Baccarat Hotel & Residences, both of which are from Starwood Capital.

So you want free WiFi when you stay in a luxury hotel huh? Good luck! Send us a post card via FedEx overnight instead, it's sooo much cheaper than paying to send an email from your room. Unless you're staying at the Hotel de Crillon in Paris that is.

If you've been following our Best & Worst Wi-Fi Hotel Stories from the past few weeks, the overwhelming consensus is any hotel that costs more than $150 a night charges for WiFi, whereas any hotel UNDER $150 usually throws it in for nothing.

Hey, those luxury hotels do give you Premium internet access for the $24.95 you pay - it lets you feel like you're worth a million bucks while you browse the internet... Ok, maybe not - you just feel like you were robbed.

But! If you stay at the Hotel de Crillon in Paris--a six-star hotel which has been rated as the nicest and most exclusive hotel in the world--they'll throw in free WiFi during your stay! Thats free WiFi in the lobby, in your room, in the ballroom, in the bar, and in the bathroom!

1 and Crillon and Baccarat Hotels Oh My!

February 1, 2008 at 12:02 PM | 0 Comments

As if we didn't have enough announcements this week with Edition and XP Hotels Barry Sternlicht, the former Starwood Hotels exec, has announced that the first of planned Baccarat Hotel Chain will debut in Atlanta, Georgia.

Keep in mind Sternlicht is already hard at work on his 1 Hotels brand and the Crillon brand.

Yup, this is about the time when our heads start spinning.

Starwood Stalker Andrew Calvo at Passions of Zealot as usual has all the details.

This Baccarat project will be the first location within the Continental United States and will also include a Baccarat Crystal Boutique - Georgia's first Baccarat location, and America's 12th Baccarat Boutique location. It will contain 100 hotel rooms and 42 condos - a very small project....

The hotel will actually open in the Streets of Buckhead development at Peachtree and East Paces Ferry Roads. It will include at least 2 hotels, residential buildings and luxury retail stores, as well as restaurants. Kinda like a city within a city.

Construction on the development has started but not on the hotel. We're guessing it will be 2010 before you see it.

Starwood's MySpace Profile

So Barry Sternlicht dumped his flagship hotel brand, Starwood, in 2003 and has recently gone on to launch a newer hotel chain, like the weirdly named Crillon which we strongly believe to be a combo of the words crunk and million.

Anyways, when we came across the Starwood MySpace profile we got crazy excited and jumped to the conclusion that Barry started a band in honor of his old company.

Sadly, Starwood is just another struggling rock band based in Los Angeles, with a "70's style Kiss meets blues driven Aerosmith matched with the retro glam rock sleaze of T-Rex, Guns n' Roses, and Cheap Trick."

But maybe there is hope for the Crillon rap group?
